Walt Disney World Doesn't Have A Plan For The Future

- Walt Disney World Orlando is not prepared at all for Universal Studios Orlando Epic Universe. Recently announcing their Walt Disney World new rides for the coming years at the D23 expo, the future of Disney World is clearly bleak as next to nothing is coming to the Orlando theme parks. Disney World Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Epcot, and Disney Hollywood Studios all have their own internal issues as well, which are not getting addressed either. It seems that Walt Disney World is just not concerned about Universal Orlando Epic Universe and believe that they can do next to nothing and still succeed.

Something I wanna point out is how nervous everyone looked when “announcing” the blue sky projects. That wasn’t an average announcement look. They knew their panel was lackluster, and pulled out those ideas as a last resort. They aren’t unaware of how big of a threat Epic Universe is, they are FULLY aware of it and realize just how much they screwed up when they realized they had nothing planned. They literally announced those pitches out of *fear*
Nervous? LMAO.. You obviously didn't watch it did you
You good bob
???
Saying the panel was lackluster is by far an understatement it was beyond embarrassing
Thank you, exactly sums it up. They are very much aware of epic universe, and they are nervous.
Im happy that Disney finally has competition because it means that they might actually improve Disney.
Yeah me too. If it wasn’t for Universal no chance Disney would’ve built 3 new lands 3 years like they did in the late 2010s. Now I just hope Disney would add things without Universal constantly having to push them to do so.
@@AttractionIdeas Yeah thats not gonna happen, disney only ever does change if they have to.
I wish. They seem to find a bad idea and double down on it. They need to do a full stop and reevaluate, but it doesn’t look like it. Sad to see the Titan fall. They have a big pot of money and lots of assets, so it will be a slow death.
@@MrKornnugget How the high and mighty fall.
Doubt it, not with Chapek in charge.
“Disney does not work as the side part of the trip.” This right here is the problem. Universal has more affordable hotels that are just as good. So if I’m staying there, it’s an expensive headache to add a few days at Disney with all of the excessive planning that has to be done. Universal is straight forward with very little planning needed.
So little planning! Universal is so easy and convenient!
Funny how universal went from being a side trip you would make if you had extra day or 2 after being done with Disney world to being a main place to go while your in Florida. Funny how the tables have turned
Spent less then half the money I would’ve spent at Disney and yet I had more of an experience then I would’ve at Disney. Can’t wait for Super Nintendo Land
I think of this whole thing as a bit like internet explorer. It was good, but didn't keep up with other browsers (parks) in terms of addition because they got complacent due to their market share and didn't see the others as major threats, which will lead them to either improve their parks or die. That's the best metaphor I can think of.
Spot on
I think 10-15 years from now we'll be watching videos on the shocking decline of Disney. They became Disney because of their imagineering. The parks were magical places to go to when I was a kid. Fast forward to today, where Disney I stead of dreaming up amazing ideas, has bought just about every IP they can get their hands on, flood the market with movies and shows so you can sell merchandise. They don't build new theme park attractions anymore, they build gift shops for their characters. And if all of that isn't bad enough, they now write movie scripts not to make a good movie, but to introduce new characters or environments that can be used at a theme park in an attempt to extract yet even more money from their fans.
it's going to be extremely satisfying to watch Universal win this battle.
I’m truly appalled at the sheer laziness and incompetence of the people running Disney now. They are truly clueless and creatively bankrupt.
Truly appalled? LMAO.. You OBVIOUSLY know NOTHING about Disney do you?
@@BAKER22-l4u You go back on home to your husband Bob Chapek, sweetie.
@@BAKER22-l4u You’re on Disney’s payroll, aren’t you?
Actually, they were like that for decades.
I think Disney's biggest doomsday event is generational. The generations that attend Disney today did not have options like Universal in the 70's and 80's and most of the 90's. I hear all the time about the nostalgia aspect and people bringing their kids to the parks as a kind of rite of passage. The doomsday event is when all these kids born in the 2000's grow up and start having their own kids they are not going to have the same nostalgia attraction and will have no problem taking their kids born in 2020 and beyond to Epic Universe or Studios before going to Disney. Disney is a brand like Apple, for some its all about status. So they can get away with premium pricing and not offering anything truly innovative... although RotR and Guardians is really nice. Flight of Passage is cool too.
That’s a very good point. Didn’t even think about that.
I was talking about this with my dad recently. He brought it up and it’s an excellent point. My parents, my sister, and I have great nostalgia for Disney because of many years of memories. Take that away and what is left for those who don’t have that nostalgia? Your description of the situation rings true.
Adding onto that, retheming Splash Mountain is very unpopular and is a good way to kill nostalgia for the resort. They aren’t helping themselves by doing that, and then knowing how slow Disney does construction then we know the retheme will keep it down for a while. If that’s the big announcement, then they’ve officially waved the white flag
@@robertsmalls3513 I think the re theme to Princess Tiana is fine. Nostalgia won't last forever and at some point the future comes knocking...
this. i dont think a lot of people in Gen Z have the nostalgia for disney the way other generarions do (especially when compared to millenials). the disney branding is also kinda corny and i think for many under 30 who arent already huge fans its too childish. universal has properties that truly appeal to everybody and that variety is what might make them go from the alternative to the new standard
They seem to have amazing concepts that never seem to come to be or at least never become half of what Disney promises. I feel like the recent D23 Expo was just pretty concept art and not much else…
The fact that Disney ISN'T scared is just typical arrogance. They STILL think they're immune to going out of business because they think they can charge whatever and people will still come. Really? You sure about that?
My wife, my sister, my brother in law and I canceled a Disney double date we had planned because there's nothing there to entice us to pay those ridiculously high prices just to wait for hours in line. I am, however, trying to convince them to take a Universal trip since they still have never been to the Wizarding World.
Disney putting money and effort into its pet projects that flop and not changing their movement is another example.
How many woke movies flopped recently? And how many more are they planning?
@@michaela.754 EXACTLY.
Just got back from Disney World and Universal. Universal and IOA was definitly my favourite parks. Pandora and Galaxy's edge was fun but I didn't like Magic Kingdom. It was just way too crowded and old. Even Tron couldn't pull me back. I could definitly spend more time at Universal and am really excited about the new park. Disney really needs to step up their game.
We’re already see this happen, but it’s clear that Disney is prioritizing a higher class audience of guests, especially with their recent cruise ship and park add ons. Universal however seems to want to remain open to the average citizen, with more affordable prices and less crowded parks. I think in the oncoming years we’ll see a massive divide grow between Disney and Universal as equally popular parks but with largely different audience classes.
Just went to Hollywood. They’ve added “Lightning Lane.” Pay to skip every single line.
I agree with your statements - and I’ve loved Orlando’s Disney parks since childhood. The sad thing in all this is that despite the decline in WDW’s offerings for the money you pay, people still keep paying it. So even if Epic Universe captures some of Disney’s market share, Disney will still make more money & satisfy investors. It’s a vicious cycle. That said, my next annual pass will be Universal …. Even if Disney was offering them again. I love what they’ve done with immersion in each land!
Why are their investors still confident in them?? If I had 100 shares of Disney stock, I'd be dumping it as fast as I possibly could. If I was the chief shareholder, I'd be telling the others "WHAT the freak does EITHER of the Bobs do that makes it worth investing hard earned money in??? And you have TWO minutes to convince me or I'm demanding a recall election to bring back Eisner."
I love your ride quotes and jokes throughout the video. Makes it all the better! Also, I had a feeling the expo would be lacking. But when you brought up the stuff like the toy story restaurant and the stitch's great escape, I found myself surprised because I'd almost forgot about them. Seems Disney already has.
You NEED HELP
That actually got me so mad. I haven't been in years and already didn't plan on going anytime soon but no stitch ride?? No Fantasmic??? honestly kills any chance i may have considered planning it, they keep getting rid of good attractions.
Hope the new Universal Parks ends up being quality. If they can have a few more lands with the quality of Harry Potter I think that might make Disney sweat a little
I pray Super Mario World turns out the way I envision it. And they'll even have Mario Kart! I also hope they build the Ministry of Magic in the Harry Potter park.
Was waiting for a video from you about the D23 “announcements”. Really crazy that Disney isn’t even TRYING to compete with Universal in Orlando.
...they seem to think that they don't need to....
I think one of the biggest signs that Disney just doesn't have a clue on where to go was what happened during the early days of the pandemic. With the parks closed, cashflow was virtually down to a trickle and so a lot of projects had to be canceled or put on hold, and what does Disney do? Instead of investing in park infrastructure or new rides, they pour everything they have left available into the Galactic Starcruiser. A thing nobody wanted, costs SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS for essentially all day dinner theatre, is transparently just stuff they cut from Galaxy's Edge for budget reasons, and within a single year has already likely exhausted the bulk of the target audience who could even afford it.
Meanwhile, Everest got taken down for refurbishment and they literally don't care enough to bother trying to fix the Yeti even though it would be the perfect time to go ahead and do what needs to be done. The Monorail trains are in dire need of replacement, legitimately dangerous given the parts falling off and the doors not closing on rare occasions (plus the smell). They won't even entertain the idea of rebuilding Disneyland's Peoplemover even though that would be a godsend for the park as a crowd-eater attraction with excellent throughput. Hell, the number one thing that would restore faith in Disney more than anything is fixing Journey into Imagination to its original state and it's INSULTING that all they did with Figment was make a stupid mascot costume for a meet and greet instead of actually giving him his attraction back properly.
No. Disney decided they needed a big, stupid, small capacity hotel that doesn't actually support any of the existing parks and was a bad idea from the moment of conception. Because they thought they could constantly milk rich people of six thousand dollars for years.
WDW's customer service skills are in the toilet. Rude, unhelpful, unfriendly workers, constant ride breakdowns, dirty bathrooms, etc. They clearly have major issues in the training & monitoring of their help, among a host of other issues.
@Bob Baker are you hearing this??
@@delaunfifield3490 guy doesn’t even respond to the comments we leave him just some faceless soulless Disney shill who can’t accept the Disney Parks aren’t what they’ve used to be
Disney is counting on the traditional sheep customers who return over & over and complain about things even as they toss money to the mouse.
I sincerely believe that is the ooooonly reason they haven't totally bombed yet. Their stock was downgraded for the first time in over 20 years from "buy" to "sell". That means investment groups don't find the stock worth spending your hard-earned money on.
Great stuff. Poseidon Entertainment speaks about this same thing, their leadership is sinking them into the ground.
As a an Ex Disney Fan I'm pretty excited for Epic Universe because as a Nintendo Fan this will be my most anticipated park ever! Universal Studios is definitely kicking Disneys butt!
I love Nintendo so much. It reminds me of my childhood. 😭
I’ve wondered for several years what is Disney’s plan for a new Tomorrowland besides Tron? This parks panel confirms they have NO PLANS. They don’t have any IP to put in Tomorrowland since Star Wars, Marvel, and Toy Story have their own lands. Disney is afraid to create new original attractions for the parks. In the past Disney used CORPORATE SPONSORS to help fund new attractions, but they’ve largely moved away from them post-2008. When an attraction’s sponsorship ends and isn’t renewed, the ride is typically doomed to close.
Disney is intentionally building slow because they have contracts with the Asia parks that when they get a new ride, it’s exclusive there for 5 years. Timed exclusive rides.
As a Floridian I couldn’t tell you the last time I felt inclined to go to Disney park I think it was some after hours event in 2016 . Anytime someone out of state asks me what to plan for I tell them Universal & Busch Gardens you’ll save money and the headache of planning just to see that mouse. So I find it hilarious you had touched on that 😂
Thanks for the tip
The Disney land janitor is watching this trying to show the person who controls the rides to show the manger to show the boss to show the ceo to show the main person
I’m just imagining all of the executives of Universal watching the Disney thing all at the same time, anxious to see what Disney is countering them with…
Then at the end, some guy just goes “that it?” And everyone bursts into laughter at how laughably boring, bland, and lackluster the new Disney announcement was.
FunFact, Tokyo DisneySeas was built and opened in less time than Tron did/is
I believe it. It has next to no theming. Should’ve taken a year or two at most.
The battle between Disney and universal continues
It almost seemed like they were afraid to fully commit to anything big for some reason. In the description for the panel they mentioned Epcot as a focus, and they barely touched on it. Epcot's 40th barely got a mention.
The fact you quoted The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man is amazing
Epic Universe is very likely to do well. However, the way in which it will do well is a different story. I think it will come down to two possibilities:
1. The park will cause Disney to lose a percentage of their market share, as more people are coming to Universal Resort or making the resort a more significant part of their overall Florida trip.
2. People will choose to visit Epic Universe instead of one or both of the existing Universal parks, with the new park either not affecting Disney at all or, better yet for them, bringing more tourists to Florida who will end up going to Walt Disney World.
I do not see that second option speculated enough, and it did not even cross my mind till I read more or less the same thing online, but it is a very real possibility. However, we will not know till 2025.
If the new Super Nintendo World in Hollywood Universal kicks off well, that could be an omen of things to come for Epic Universe. If it's a success, I would tell the Disney execs: You SHOULD be worried, very worried...
As a Universal fan, it's so frustrating Disney isn't doing anything here. The more people wanting to go to Universal, the more costly it will get, eventually. Not looking forward to the inevitable annual pass price hike.
Also their blue sky is an absolute joke. Compare this to blue sky of the past something Tony Baxter would’ve come up with, and it’s like a two-year-old could have thought of this stuff. A ride based on a Disney animation hit movie? No shit
If you ask me, retheming Splash Mountain makes me not want to visit the Disney parks anymore.
Oh well
Get WOKE go Broke...
Honestly one of two things can come out of this bigger competition with universal in the next few years for Disney world to survive (at least we hope):
1. Prices go down or stabilize to go to Disney
2. Announcements of lands/parks with actual substance
As much as I hate to admit it, they REALLY didn't deliver on Disney World announcements @D23, this year. They announced loads of great stuff for every Disney park, EXCEPT for Disney World! The biggest announcement for that park was stuff that they MIGHT add. They don't have to announce the long fabled "5th Park". Just expand the 4 parks they already have! Make a "New Tomorrowland" expansion for Magic Kingdom, add some more countries to World Showcase, create a third immersive land for Hollywood Studios, and add pretty much ANYTHING new to Animal Kingdom! But no! Apparently, the plan is just "Stay the course until it stops making us money." Which... Thanks to Disney fans like myself... Sadly seems to be the best course of action.
They DIDN'T need to. There is NO reason for them to be worried about Universal

Everyone praises universal so I went on my last visit, without my kids, and sure, it wasn’t as crowded and the hagrid ride was fun and the Harry Potter stores were cool even though they were just stores.
My under 5 niece went and she basically rode the Simpsons spinner ride. That was the only thing she could do. I know there’s some Seuss stuff but we didn’t get over there. Disney is expanding into the competitive market with the tron rollercoaster.
I’m not a fan of current Disney but the idea that Universal is killing it isn’t totally true. Universal has increased their market share but the overall market has increased substantially.
Hollywood Studios has a major crowding issue they definitely are in need of an expansion or more attractions that fit large crowds
And can’t forget Magic Kingdom with its many rides crammed into 106 acres. Even when wait times don’t look awful, the human gridlock is horrible.

I would much rather them have no public response right now and wait on things then them announce a bunch of things that ultimately get cancelled or extremely scaled down. Like I get that we pretty much know everything that is directly coming to Epic Universe because of leaks, but remember none of this is actually “confirmed” by Universal. Go back to Velocicoaster where they literally said it was going to be a churro stand until a few months out.
My theory is Disney has learned that they shouldn’t be announcing things so far in advance and get crowds disappointed (looking at you Tron). Like if they didn’t even announce Tiana until now it would have been such a huge surprise. But they decided it would be better as a PR move to announce it in the middle of 2020 in order to score brownie points and now it’s almost like it’s old news.
Yeah and that’s great. I definitely don’t like them announcing things before they’re certain they’re going to do them. My problem is that they’re actually not doing a lot over the coming years despite the wave of internal and external concerns the parks are facing.
@@AttractionIdeas It’s certainly a wait and see approach. Like for instance I’m going to go out on a limb and say that epic universe will be a great park and had a 98% chance of being everything we want it to be. However, outside of Nintendo everything else is going to be new ventures in terms of rides and attractions. Now if all of these rides and shows are industry game changing then yes it will certainly take away market share. However, if only half of these new additions are great like recent additions of Hagrids, Velocicoaster, etc and the others aren’t “epic” (Jimmy Fallon, Fast and Furious, Simpsons) then Universal will certainly get the crowds, but maybe not as much hype as we are expecting and people will ultimately only go once or might even wait until there are new expansions.
I find it kind of funny. Disney is lost, without focus or direction and a lack of clear leadership as well as on the brink of collapse. Kinda like how they wrote The Empire post-Battle of Endor in the current Star Wars canon....kinda like Disney predicted their downfall

Universal is 1/3 the price of a Disney World trip. Given the upcoming recession, that'll be enough to get people to ditch Disney and go to Universal instead. Disney will always own the California market as Disneyland is just leaps and bounds better than Universal Hollywood and that's never going to change, but they're forced to update it due to it being a local park rather than a touristy one, but Disney World, unless things drastically change, is going to suffer at the hands of Universal Orlando, and I, for one, can't wait to see it happen.

I think something that we may be overlooking is that Disney may not actually care about Epic Universe taking market share as much as we think. If you consider overcrowding is Disneys main issue....its just too popular which is degrading Guest experience, hence why they've been trying to price people out of their Parks. Therefore if universal takes away a chunk of the crowds Disney are already trying to get rid of, and leaves Disney with those guests who are already willing to pay a high premium to visit, Im not sure they'd be too disappointed with that, as they'll cream off the higher spend per visit guests and at the same time be able to offer them a (slightly) less crowded day at Disney......mean while Universal will have to start dealing with the overcrowding issues Disney currently face as the masses realize its a much better value proposition as it stands! I suspect Disney care more about maximizing spend per guest than numbers through the gate given the market advantage they currently enjoy!
Disney just don't care about competition, really. They care to have their parks full of people, and as long as that happens they do not need to compete 😉

Yea, our vacation is strictly universal. We would like to tack on Hollywood studios, but it's so confusing, expensive, and crowed that it really doesn't seem worth it. Needless to say, we won't be going to Disney anytime soon. Not even a tack on.
Oh well
Disney is not worried Bob paycheck said in an interview. They don't think the new Universal park will have any effect on them. There going to wait till 2026 and see what happens.
...which will be tooooooooo late.....
Disney as company as a whole doesn't have leadership with a vision right now. It's very short term and ideologicaly driven and that poor leadership is dripping down into everything it offers. It no longer focuses on quality and its legacy and instead is focused on quantity and trying to cater to a non existent audience. The ship needs a new captain and soon or else it's going to crash.
You could voice Max Goof
An adult version with kids of his own!
I just got back from a trip to Universal. It was my first time back since I was a kid in 2002. I was floored by everything. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey blew me away, best ride I've ever experienced. EVER! The only thing that could top it is the Universal Monsters dark ride at Epic Universe, which I am now even more excited about! So over Disney, let the reign of Universal begin!!!
They've ignored your advice on not putting new attractions on the Magic Kingdom and focus on adding them on their other 3 parks to fix crowd control issues.
I really hope they don't build Zootopia in Animal Kingdom
Yeah there are way better properties that could work in Animal Kingdom. I know it's popular, but I do like the idea of bringing Indian Jones in. The Jungle Book or Tarzan I think would work well too. Since they own it now, Ice Age would be cool and different, but would be a stretch for them to actually do.
I feel like disney is trying to find a way to implement puberty blockers on their kiddie rides. I can see the imagineers working hard on that.
Hands down best theme park content on RUclips
LMAO.. Hands down the most RIDICULOUS comment I've seen in years
???
Absolutely mind boggling.
What? There is NO reason for Disney to do anything new. People will ALWAYS go to Disney
@@BAKER22-l4u You do KNOW that there was a 17% drop in attendance so far this year? And did you some how miss the MANY statements of people in this thread that DID go to D-world stated they had a TERRIBLE TIME and will NEVER return?
1: close old good attractions
2: open up inferior act job attraction
3: ...?
4: profit!
Going to Disney and universal at the end of October. I’m a die hard disney fan but I’m more excited for universal then Disney for this trip. Seeing Halloween horror nights and I’m very excited for that. Disney need to step up with putting in more rides with expanding every park besides magic kingdom bc that’s already at its pinnacle
I like how at 7:14-7:20 you're ranting over two girls happily taking selfies in front of the Magic Kingdom's tram station, lol 😆
Disney’s Animal Kingdom should get some expansions and new rides and animal attractions to add some capacity with some expansions in new unused plots of land along with an improvement and fix-up to Dinoland with plenty of new dinosaur themed rides and attractions along with other stuff!
And, Universal Orlando Resort is doing upkeep on the existing Resort ahead of Epic Universe’s Opening!! And, Disney is doing nothing! Disney , you are going down!
Dawg this video has me laughing. Epic Universe is gonna slap so hard
If that's TRUE, you really NEED HELP
@@BAKER22-l4u lick the boot all you want. Disneys announcements were underwhelming, it is what it is.
@@BAKER22-l4u I think you’re the only one here that needs help
Going to Orlando 2023. We are going to every Universal Studios park and only spending 1 day at Disney. I love Disney but it’s a hassle. It’s cheaper and easier to make it a universal heavy trip over Disney. It’s sad but best way to save money.
The SpongeBob bit 😂😂
I agree wholeheartedly with you on the atrocity that was the parks panel at D23 and the lack of capital investments at the US parks. However, I disagree that WDW is in trouble regarding losing significant market share due to this and universal's growth strategy.
I think you underestimate the pull of Disney's brand. There is a legion of disney adults that will praise the company, regardless of what they do, and they will continue to visit and bring their families.
Additionally, Disney is so ingrained in our culture that parents will continue to bring their children as somewhat of a rite of passage trip. The film division of disney continues to produce and, more importantly, market very well and that is something universal cannot match in the short run. Disney can continue to push their 90s movies, Pixar, and recent Disney animation franchises and the masses will still come.
...not so fast: Disney wokeness has KILLED the brand with a large majority of parents, and John Q Public as well.....
The current issue with Universal (before the opening of epic universe) is there’s not enough to do.
If you buy a relatively cheap 2 park express pass, you can just about get 2 parks done in one day, leaving a few days at Disney.
Better still if you stay at their deluxe resorts you get the pass for free.
I can 100% see Universal removing this pass soon so it keep people on site more when Epic opens.
Honestly is it that hard to understand that companies make profit? Yes their only plan is to raise prices because the decline in attendance is probably still not hurting overall sales or maybe they can even tolerate lower sales if it means an increase in profitability. They won't add new stuff until they need it, that's it. They don't always pay you to gain market share, sometimes they pay you to improve profits.
Does this suck for consumers? Absolutely. Do they care? Not at all, they will care when caring improves their profits.
Universal Season pass holder here!!!.....Epic will force Disney to change!
To be fair, they are facing major expansion speculations...and this is disney. They need to perfect everything...
We moved to Florida to be close to Disney. Had annual passes, the whole nine yards. As the years went by it became evident the new leadership does not care about you. They do the bare minimum to get you back next year. The final straw for us is when a bunch of board room execs in California announced they will do everything they can to repeal Parental Rights in Education in Florida. A group of grown ups angry that they can't talk to five to seven year olds about sex without their parents present. If talking to a five year old about sex is that important to you, invite the parents. I know the word grooming has been tossed around a lot. But Disney IS grooming your kids. And by consuming anything like merch, Disney+, park tickets, you're abandoning your ethics and morals for entertainment.
WELL SAID-and this is the EXACT REASON (along with Genie+. lightening lanes, et al) that we will not spend ONE RED CENT on ANYTHING Disney!!
What’s worse is epic universe is about 20 min from Disney as well
We have been coming over from Australia every few years for the last 25 years. We spend a lot of money and our trips ALWAYS revolve around Disney but with the reservation systems and the course the company is taking our next trip will forsake Disney entirely for universal and Pigeon Forge. For now we are done with Disney. They can earn back our business but its gonna take a hellava lot on their part.
I was awaiting for this moment. Disney never really cares about any of us.
