Love the set up. For the small gap between the cab and topper go Walmart and buy a cheap bike tire tube and work it in the gap in a circle around the pass through window. Then inflate as much as you can to tighten it and it will seal tight for you.
I literally spend all my time watching truck camper builds and I promise this is by farrrr the nicest, cleanest, and thought out builds I’ve ever seen. Great work!👍

Thanks. I think you will enjoy the tundra. I hear that they are eliminating the V8 next year... so if you are looking for that... might want 2020 or older. It's a super comfortable and capable truck... it can feel a little big on the trails and in the woods so keep that in mind.
I am buying a Tundra and want to outfit it to camp in until I get a trailer (probably when I retire). Your set up is really inspiring and well done. I came across your video almost a year later so I'm sure you have your new window coverings done, but I thought I would mention for my current SUV, I used a heavy tin foil to form a perfect window template to cut reflectix and then used black felt on one side and a designer fleece pattern on the other. I used spray adhesive and it worked well. I did have to let them sit outside for a few days to make sure the smell dissipated, and it did. After cutting the material, I tested them along the way to make sure the fit was snug. They stay in place all by themselves (the felt and fleece tuck them into the grove of the window edge/frame). They provide insulation and complete block out.
Very impressive setup. From the single battery solar setup to the T track being used overhead and along the bed. I really like that inconspicuous solar panel. I'd love a setup like this. Thanks for sharing!
I just put an ARE on my 2017 F250 Lariet with an 8’ bed. All I can say is wow. I like what you have done with your rig. I want the deck, but will have to wait for $$$ to get it. You have done great work. I’m inspired to do more with mine. Thanks for the video.
Cool Build. I had a 2016 Tundra TRD Pro, and a 2012 Trails Team FJ. Now I have at 2017 4R TRD Pro that I'm building up lol. I like how you setup that relay for the off road cam using the garage door opener.
Yeah, that’s a bad ass set up and as a Toyota tundra, owner myself, I applaud you. But it’s all fun and games until those cheap seals on those side windows start leaking. They will if you spend any time in direct sunlight or in freezing temperatures.
@@BigSexyBeastAdventures Great! Happy to contribute. I watched this video and thought "I want all of that!". I'm in the market for a Tundra double cab to build out. Do you have the full power rear window on your CrewMax? How about the 38 gallon gas tank?
Well some nice folks did a hit and run to me (a while back). Over 8K in damage. The truck was repaired perfectly, but I did not trust it so I replaced it. 2022 Silverado crew, 3.0 Duramax, 6'6" bed. Started over again. Leer truck height topper & Bedrug. Had to pick it up in Fl. No dealers here in Tn would order the 6'6" bed for me.
Sorry to hear that. I think If I do another truck camper build I would do a long bed. I even considered something like a F350 with an 8’ bed. You could build a whole house in the back of one of those.
I had a friend with an 8' bed. His happiest day was the day he got rid of it. With the crew cab and the trailer hitch, he always had to park it far away from the stores, etc... With the 1500 crew cab and the standard 6'6" bed I can comfortably park it and sleep in it (without sleeping sideways). The BedRug bed liner contours to the groves in the metal bed floor and you can sleep on a flat carpeted surface. We are Older and retired. Incase of emergency breakdown I keep 2 ECWSS (Extreme Cold Weather Sleep Systems) for the wife and I in the winter months. @@BigSexyBeastAdventures
THANK YOU !!!!!!! Most of the electrical is over my head but I have a son in law that could do it for me. LOVE THE WATER TANK!!!! Room temperature shower, or add a kettle of boiling water to get it a little warmer. Could you put a heat pad on the water tank? what would it draw in power? or how long would it take to go from like 40% to 80%?
Hello my name is Ken, I built a similar truck cab camper and addressing your window covering, I have now made 2 sets of covers, so maybe you can learn from my mistakes. You will not need reflectix on your windows. If you use a good quality marine canvas with edging. Sunbrella is a good brand. Does not stretch. I see you have a carpet interior. Velcro works great. I found if you use 1 1/2 inch Velcro all the way around, it makes it much easier to position. This is where I made my mistake. I only used a few tabs of Velcro. Took to long to get a good grip to support the weight. If you use a grey color of canvas, you will not notice anything hanging in your windows from the outside. You would be able to see reflektix and if you sandwich, becomes heavier. Keep it light One layer of canvas stops air flow and condensation problems. By the way, I have an industrial sewing machine so I just stapled it all together then did the sewing. Hot glue works well too. Just keep your reveal clean. Any questions, ask. Have a good day.
Hey fat Wookie i would not be interested in sewing. Very time consuming. I have found that if you staple the canvas to a few tabs of Velcro, hang the material over the window and trace the outside dimension with a piece of chalk this gives a much better fit. Just remember to add about 2 1/2 inches to the outside dimension. Remember if you staple, make sure your staples are out of the way of stitching area. You should be able to find someone local. Not sure what part of the world you are in. Couldn’t make out your license plate. I’m in Colorado Springs, Colorado. USA best Regards
The under truck camera is brilliant. My first thought was, why not a couple of lights underneath. Then you could travel rocks in poor light. But a couple of 'headlights' underneath would just flatten out the image in the camera. What if you positioned them to side light boulders near your front tires. Fiddle with the lights to get the maximum usable 3D images of the rocks upcoming. Good truck. I'd be interested in getting a Tundra or Tacoma, but that double cab is a real deal breaker for me. Sure a slightly extended cab would be great, but that's a lot of space that isn't in your front seat and it isn't in the back. Thanks
Interested in how you did the solar panel after I saw your video I decided that I will going to get a MX walkthrough door and use your setup I like the idea of power station and the fridge running off something other than the truck battery
I suggest that you buy a Wiggy's sleeping bag if you want to be warm and dry. Made in the USA, no harmful chemicals either. They're not the cheapest in price, but they are the best in quality. As of April 12, 2020, since are specially priced. 🇺🇸
Everyone always regrets those step up bars when off roading. Its crazy the amount of people. Just have the family jump in lol or get rick sliders that stick out a little
I am 6’ tall 200lbs and I want to do a similar sleeping bed in the back of my 07 Crewmax. Will my smaller wife 5’6 130 and I fit, or will the short leg room drive us crazy? I would use the water and fridge area for more bed space? I would do the water and fridge in the rear seat area? Would a flush roof canopy shell give us much less headroom when the drawers are built like yours? Would the lower headroom drive us crazy? I like the drawer and bed configuration, maybe shallower drawers with the flush roof shell? We have electric bikes to put in the rear seat area. I think I will remove the rear seat and rebuild the giant rear seat area for camping storage. We have two folding electric bikes that also need to go into the rear seat area! Love your gadgets and channel.
You might try lying in your bed diagonal as is and see. You’d fit solo I think but it might be thought for the both of you. My 110 lbs German Shepard sleeps in the back with me and he’s a bed hog. The walk in door gains you 3-4 inches of leg room. At 5’10”, I can JUST sit up in my shell. You’d loose 4-5 inches of headroom with a flush shell. I almost went that route. Pros are it would stay really warm in there in cold weather with the two of you and the low room. Cons, it will be tight and sleeping only. No where to sit up out of the rain. Hope this helps. Ping me back if you have more questions
Thanks for your quick reply. The extra inches of head AND legroom make me want to try your setup with the canopy. Just have to find a perfect used ARE for $500 in silver! Great channel. Thanks again.
Big Sexy Beast Adventures I have a Tundra with the same length bed and am 5’10” as well. Do you still have to sleep diagonally with the walk in shell or can you sleep straight. Rarely go solo and am looking for something that I can sleep straight in with the short bed.

@@j.patrickbewley5053 Thanks for the info sir..I also have Tundra TRD PRO and trying to decide between hard bed cover or Bed Cap. Also considering decked system too.
With no tailgate: makes things rather tight inside. I’d go with tailgate and camper hinged glass flip up door. Also I would find some type of rubber tubing to put between cab and cap… put air in tube… allows you to use pass thru window when camping!!!! Otherwise : nice unit ( I was using a tube I bought at RV store 50 years ago. Worked fantastic then) 👍 B Deacon Manitoba Canada 🇨🇦
When you add your window reflectors in black still keep the curtains. There will be times you can use both depending on the situation. Possibly add some velcro circles to the reflectix and the curtains.
Man Im just blown away with the simplicity of this build, at the same time so genius. Maybe Im just not small detail minded. I have a 17 Silverado Crew cab and have become uninterested in continuing past the bed platform I built for it. This has given me new excitement about finishing it out, I am curious where to find or how to build this endo Skeleton track system. That is the biggest thing for me, that and the solar setup. Thank you!
Big Sexy Beast Adventures I have not. But I going to now! Hooe you and your boys are really enjoying the trip. That Idaho river was everything! Thanks man.
This is great very minimal it also gets you to go outside more often I would assume good stuff. I’m assuming there is more room in the truck bed in a tundra vs a Tacoma?
Thank for the comprehensive video. This is the set up I’m looking for. Do you have an opening for exchange of gasses for the candle lantern. I want to heat the back bed, but I’m looking for other options. Thanks!
Do you have the Reflectx against the windows? If so, you have conduction with the cold glass conducting the cold to the Reflectx. To get a better "R" value using the Reflectx, spray glue speaker box material to the Reflectx and have your panels overlap the window frames. Then Velcro the speaker box material with the attached Reflectx to the topper material, leaving the material and the air space between the Reflectx and the glass. You will be amazed at the benefits of keeping the Reflectx off the glass.@@BigSexyBeastAdventures
@@BigSexyBeastAdventures I can make that happen. Plan is for a remote forward facing light & camera broadcasting into the cab. Triggering the camera, and the wireless broadcast saves a lot of wiring. Truck is being worked on now, be about 2-3 weeks till I get it back.
I built up a shippable prototype unit. I'll try to locate it. Send me a shipping address to jpbewley@gmail.com and I'll send it out to you. I'll record a how to wiring video and send that to you as well
Got a random question , if your just camping casually from time to time do like the same Leer model but without the big man door? any thoughts or would you stil go for the full door. appreciate it . thanks.
Approaching the 2 year mark from when this video was released.. What do you think about the camper shell now? Just ordered my decked and am considering a similar setup with camper shell.. Curious about your pro's n cons.
I just bought a replacement surprise… but here is my two year feedback. One the whole… great setup. Originally people asked me a lot about leaks… originally I was curious why they asked that…. Over time I had a few but never enough to be a problem. Many of a cold night with heavy rains I spent in that camper. I did about 75-100 nights each year for two years… so we’ll used… easy to hear… easy to setup… I’m a big fan
It would be nice to have a 1/2 decked… meaning leg room to setup like a couch…I never had issues with dust getting into the shell off road. I was very happy with the quality of the ARE shell. Comments have come in post pandemic that suggest the quality control at ARE has declined but I have no direct experience with that… mine was great. Ping me with any other questions
How are you attaching things to the endo skeleton? Is it short bolts and washers? thanks! Love your videos. Hoping to build out the back of my Tundra soon.
With T-Bolts. Here is an amazon link to what I used. These: smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CYV26WP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and these: smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B079JN1DSK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Heating is easier than cooling... I used a candle lantern some. Use with care! As to cooling... head to higher elevation... but I also had a 12 volt fan
This would be a fun video to watch when your out with a few buddies at a camp.. Everyone take a shop every time he slaps something is talking about.. You won't make it past the sleeping bag if you're drinking some fine Irish Whisky..

Intelligent use of space and a great shell with that door. But a long bed is the only size that I think makes sense for this use.

meaning... do you notice any suspension sag
@@BigSexyBeastAdventures Do you have to drill in the bed when installing "Decked" drawers?
Dale Phillips no, they just attach to existing points. I’m a no drill build so far
Thats a good idea on the velcro circles.
Thank you!
Thanks! My endoskeleton is from ARE that I ordered with my shell. That being said... have you looked at the modular extruded aluminum kits on amazon?
Big Sexy Beast Adventures I have not. But I going to now! Hooe you and your boys are really enjoying the trip. That Idaho river was everything! Thanks man.
This is great very minimal it also gets you to go outside more often I would assume good stuff.
I’m assuming there is more room in the truck bed in a tundra vs a Tacoma?
Yes. I had. A tacoma before and really wanted to do this in the Tacoma... But there. Just wasn't enough room
Amazing set up I might be attempting something similar after watching this
Absolutely brilliant. You're an inspiration, brother
Thank you so much 😀
Hey just saw this and subscribed - suggestions links to product’s you mention would be really useful!
Thank for the comprehensive video. This is the set up I’m looking for. Do you have an opening for exchange of gasses for the candle lantern. I want to heat the back bed, but I’m looking for other options. Thanks!
I keep the camper shell windows open about 1 inch. I also added a 12 volt carbon monoxide and propane alarm in the shell
What is the source for your water tank/sprayer? Thanks keep the videos coming!
thewaterport.com is the tank/sprayer I use in the back. Thanks!
nice omega seamaster
Good eye! James Bond 50th anniversary
Please advise the how well the candlelantern works with the Reflectix in place covering your windows.
5-7 degree boost over outside temp
Do you have the Reflectx against the windows? If so, you have conduction with the cold glass conducting the cold to the Reflectx. To get a better "R" value using the Reflectx, spray glue speaker box material to the Reflectx and have your panels overlap the window frames. Then Velcro the speaker box material with the attached Reflectx to the topper material, leaving the material and the air space between the Reflectx and the glass. You will be amazed at the benefits of keeping the Reflectx off the glass.@@BigSexyBeastAdventures
Love the rig very much. What brand is your onboard water supply? Thanks
Waterport
Thanks btw
nice rig
Thanks!
The home link button is pretty neat.. are you using a garage door receiver for it to work? anymore info on that , or a link please?
I think it was this one... smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A6VO79M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Big Sexy Beast Adventures awesome. Thanks!
Could you provide some links to some of the stuff you are using like the water tank and solar setup please!
Sure. I will try to add it to the description and message you back once I do
Add me to that list if you could. Great video
Great video, rig. Worth a separate video on the rock cam setup, great idea.
Sweet setup love the camper shell ✌😁🛵
Very sharp
how did you mount the solar panels? did you just glue it on?
3M vhb tape
Nice setup👍
Thanks
May I ask how or where you got the aluminum piece that covers your drawer? I have just purchased a Decked and would like to do the same.
I cut a piece of HDPE to size, then covered the top with metal sheeting from Home Depot
Can youn please post the links for the wireless relay and receiver to control the camera.
How did you mount the solar panel?
Did you ever package the wireless relay switch for the garage door opener?
Sort of... I can send you one to play with if you'll give. Me feedback
I'll record a how to wiring video and send that to you as well
Got a random question , if your just camping casually from time to time do like the same Leer model but without the big man door? any thoughts or would you stil go for the full door. appreciate it . thanks.
Nice set up, that skid plate camera is cool! Good use of space n that cap looks good n works great 👍!
How's the dust inside? Any leaks for dust or water?
Thanks for sharing your build. This is exactly what I had in mind and I'm glad I found your video. Any issues with the camper while off-roading?
wow! well done sir!
Thanks!
How are you attaching things to the endo skeleton? Is it short bolts and washers? thanks! Love your videos. Hoping to build out the back of my Tundra soon.
With T-Bolts. Here is an amazon link to what I used. These: smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CYV26WP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Big Sexy Beast Adventures awesome! Thanks man! Love your videos
Very nice setup. Did you think of glueing a board to the Aluminium or bolting one?
I used 3m spray adhesive
My concern about this kind of camping instead of getting a slide in camper something like that is how do you heat it and how do you cool it
Heating is easier than cooling... I used a candle lantern some. Use with care! As to cooling... head to higher elevation... but I also had a 12 volt fan
Awesome vid! Dig the system.
Im currently working on a less is more system for my 1stgen tundra build
How did you attach the t-frame to the ceiling of truck cap ?
It trees up from the top of the bed and isn’t attached to the top of the shell. I can take a photo if you want.
This would be a fun video to watch when your out with a few buddies at a camp.. Everyone take a shop every time he slaps something is talking about.. You won't make it past the sleeping bag if you're drinking some fine Irish Whisky..
Looks great nice and clear
