I teach... so many of my girls lead me to wonder... have they been here in a place where they had to sell their souls. Thank you, Mary .... for leading us here... where we have to confront what so many of our girls must do... because they feel they have no where else to go. I hope to reach them before they they end up in that alley.... or help them back out .... alive.
@wimvanderwalt728 I have never been asked this before, but I shall try. I am old now but I still teach online for a school here in Nashville, TN. We serve students who need one to one instruction for any number of reasons..... It might be because they refused to go to school ... maybe due to being overwhelmed with anxiety or anger. Sometimes they just might need to pace constantly during class, or... they may have been diagnosed with medical issues that require periodic hospitalization or surgeries. Some have felt hopeless and that they “were just stupid”. One wonderful youngman came back after he graduated to tell the new head of the school that this had "saved him". I married at 20 and took my overwhelming anxiety into that marriage. I followed my husband as he built his career but my husband, bless him, insisted I go to college. So I earned my bachelors and masters degrees in fine arts in the 1970s. as a sculptor in ceramics with a fascination for glazes. (where I first encountered chemistry) We moved to Nashville, I had our daughter, I volunteered at her nursery school and her public elementary school and eventually taught art to all students from K through 4th grade. Then, after 24 years, my husband left. I went crazy for a while, and then I went to therapy and raised our daughter and went back to college. This time to earn a bachelors of science degree. (Because I have always loved Biology) and….. I learned I loved almost all the sciences ! Now I teach Algebra, Geometry, Biology, Marine Biology, Anatomy - Physiology, and Chemistry. Every teenager I see is unique and I am able to create the individual curriculum for that child. Helping each one experience their own self worth is a primary goal… and keeping it all up to date and targeted for how each child learns… This, and my Mac computer, gives me the endless JOY of constantly learning as well.
muddy waters ....clears my head.........missed ya miss Mary.....where ya been mah whole trip..............oooooh mah soul........been singinmo..I thank you.........yes you can....
My favorite Mary Gauthier song depends on how I'm feeling. Whatever it is, she's got the right song for it. Today I'm singing "Sideshow", trying to get the lyrics down, and my silly little parrot is hilariously squawking along with me. Both at the top of our lungs! That's a really fun song to sing, I do a little warble on the "another truly troubled troubadour" part, and that makes my bird do his "bomb drop" whistle almost every time (he learned that sound effect from a disco song). I think we're about ready to hit the road and find us a sideshow somewhere, far away from the bright lights, hard to find on a dark night...
Mary you bring joy to my soul. I only heard you for the 1st time tonight on the 15th of Dec 2020 and every song I have listened to have been incredible 🙌 👏 ❤
I remember when I first discovered Mary. Six years ago, when my husband of 15 years walked out and moved in with the girlfriend he told me was just a coworker. He's since dumped her and married his 4th or 5th wife, not sure because I don't care! Mary's music helped me get through that nightmare, and I got to keep the ranch. Mary can come play guitar on my front porch and watch my silly goats play "head-butt". I would request, "I Ain't Leaving", because that's the stubbornness that's served me well so far. But any song of hers will do! My front porch and goats have heard most of them.
Mary is the female, darker version of Kris Kristofferson. Her lyrics are deceptively simple, but in actuallity wield great impact, like Kristofferson's. Her voice, like K.K's, seems to have simplicity, but with a lasting kick.
I keep coming back to Mary.... I am 76 now ... Before my time is up, I will share how I sold my soul with my daughter....
Sally, I am almost 72. If you need to have someone's ear connected to soul to listen to you, you are welcome to communicate.
How can anyone not appreciate this song!
Mary, you are so talented and brave. Thank you for your songs and sharing your truth, this is art and life, just magical.
LA GRANDE ANIMA DI MARY GAUTHIER...
"Bullet Holes in the Sky" Introduced me to Mary Gauthier. Now, I'm a huge fan. She's a great songwriter, and a hell of a singer.

Good Evening Sally, Tell me more please?
