One thing I forgot to mention is that if you are going to spray with a Graco FFLP tip then you will need the RAC-X tip guard. (HERE IT IS amzn.to/2MTVbGx) This tip will not fit in your standard Graco guard.
im not sure that 3M is legit or not because it has Chinese Simplified characters, that means from China, Made in China and everyone knows China has a lot of counterfeit. oh by the way, love the intro.
Finish Carpentry TV I call graco few week ago and they told me you can use the fflp tip on the grey guard too ... not too should who right or wrong but my local paint shop said the same thing as you ..
Great job on the mantle. Very smart on the full face mask, I know guys who sneer at those who take precautions, your way ensures your kids will have a healthy father for years to come. Keep more projects coming. Great intro too.
I'm so grateful you make these videos, and for your explanations. I'm getting ready to airless spray my wainscoting (which I learned how to make properly through your videos) and of course, I'm a little apprehensive because I don't want to make a mess. Your channel is probably my favorite of all my subscriptions. Thank you.
TheSib glad to help! Start with BIN shellac primer. Buy some denatured alcohol as you will need this to clean the sprayer or any tools that touch the primer. Then sand with 220. Tack cloth and vacuum. One more coat of BIN. Repeat process . Then top coat with Benjamin Moore advance satin finish.
Thank you for talking about the need to use a respirator. I see too many RUclipsrs that do not use respirators and I worry about their health. Great video as always!
T f finish tip it's an essential pice of tool for me as well, I'm going to look in to using a full face respirator but,...I've been painting for over 15 years and all I've been using is jus a regular respirator but you are right a full face it's the best specially if you are painting crowns and ceilings. Thanks for sharing your knowledge .
I wear the same resperator almost every day. I'm a historical masonry restoration Craftsman. You can order covers for the resperator to keep the lense protected
I used the paper on the hand masker for ten years, they now sell a roll of 12 inch plastic for the handmasker , way better!! Never tears, doesn't make the room dark if prepping windows.!
Full-faced respirators are great. No fogging up like safety glasses while wearing a mask. Also you can get lens protectors for the full-faced respirators that peal off when they get dirty.
How do you apply your stain to baseboard and crown? Spray or wipe on/off??? And which hole filler is good to use of staining? Thanks , keep up the excellent work!
i know you've been trying to find how to get a silky smooth finish. The way that I've always done is: sand, vac, damp rag, dry rag, then paint. Works every time. Take that extra step ragging everything down really good. Never was a fan of tack rags though.
Can you show a video maybe of how you clean out the lines. Is it better to use a Graco TC Pro Cordless Airless Paint Sprayer to save on waste? Thanks for your videos!
love all the vids! Do you have one for where baseboard wraps a corner but must transition to a diff height of flooring? Say carpet on side of the corner down to a laminate floor on the other. Thanks!
Richard, another great video!!! Now listen bud, you can't start dropping videos on us like this and then go Dark, like you did towards the end of last year!!!😂😂😂. Hope all is well bud, I hope 2019 continues to be a great year for you guys!!! God bless, and Dirty Jersey out!!!
Just to let everyone know 3M all so makes face shield covers, what they are is a thin clear plastic film that you stick to the face mask and peal off when they get covered in fall off (over spray). I have scratched the face shield while trying to clean it that's why I went to the covers.(plus it saves me time) Normally they come in a 25 pack for about $38.00 US
Bravo on that intro No dirt bike style peel off sheets to protect the lenses? Have you tried HVLP. I was thinking about picking a smaller HVLP setup since I don't spray houses.
Great video but I'm wondering about two things: why don't you use the paper blade is the hand masker? And don't you use the plastic covers for the mask it makes it easy to clean? Anyway hope you have a great day and keep loving 3M!!
Hi I was wondering if I could ask a question ? It seems that a lot of people want to know how you do your chair rail to make up for the depth after 3/4 MDF and 1/8 or 1/4 inch backing you use on your wainscoting. If you could do a video on this it would be so helpful . Thanks
Great video, thanks so much. Do you always use paper with the masking dispenser or sometimes use plastic as well? I want to get one but am unsure if I should buy it preloaded or buy the pieces separately. Just not sure on paper or plastic
Ed Over50 mostly paper. But if you buy the hand masker separately it does not come with a blade. I recommend buying it together as a kit so you get the blade.
I'm new to airless sprayers, just bought a Graco ProX19, and have a lot of sanding to do after trying to spray wainscoting in a small bathroom with a 515 tip. :( I picked up a 313 tip this morning, how does that compare to the FFLP 310? Am I better off swapping it out?
I work with my cousin spraying cabinets, he uses a compressor with a smaller dofferent type of gun. How do you think that thing you use will fare up against cabinets? Especially inside homes when we spray at the job? Seems like your thing works way better and is more efficient than his.
Sounds like your cousin uses an HVLP. High Volume at Low Pressure. It is a much more efficient rig with the material as more material actually makes it onto the surface and not out into the air, but not as efficient as the "airless" rig used here with regard to time. Less paint going into the air is very preferable when working in finished, occupied homes but the HVLP's that do that are just too slow for most of the pro industry. Most just get down with an airless, overspray be damned. On most pro job sites, cabinets are done with an airless which is what he is using here. Does not use compressed air. Uses a pump that directly pumps the paint itself up to pressure.
Do you use the same filter for spraying as you do for sanding to protect yourself from the dust? Thanks for the insights. I've looked on the 3M site, but didnt see where they address is the vapor cartridge will filter the particulate.
p100 is good for dust, the paint filter will work but its more expensive and kind of a waste since it filters fumes on top of your aersolized paint particles. last time I checked p100s are cheaper. its good to have both on hand and I generally use the p100s so that I am not stealing the stock of paint cartridges for other tradesmen doing spray work like this especially after the shortages during covid. I had to do alot of fiber cement siding work and the general public ate up the p100 supply. but yeah a paint filter will of course work for dust
Can you please list the primer sealer you're using the type of paint your using weather at enamel or lacquer and time between coats do you sand between coats
If it's lacquer you don't need to wait long for sanding. Maybe 30mins. Oil paints been sprayed takes long time to dry. First coat will dry faster since the wood will soak it. But in my opinion if you have a sprayer, pot or airless, lacquer has the nicer finish. Like glass. But in all honesty go to pro paint store to buy paints. Not home Depot where they also sell paint. They know much more than big box stores
Question: How often should these be replaced? It depends on what chemicals and / or particulates you are breathing. For many chemicals 3M and OSHA recommend replacing filters after an 8-hour work shift MINIMUM. "Better safe than sorry.' This information is available on line via the 3m website. Of course if you don't know the 'ingredients' in the products you are breathing and you are not a chemical engineer, you should probably go ahead and replace the filters after each use / shift, just to be on the safe side. Costly, but what price is not worth paying for your personal health and safety? Write it off on your taxes. :)
3:30 in the morn but instead of going to bed I'm watching yet another video of yours. Thanks Dick lol... You ever thought about doing a video on using a aerosol can spray paint? Like on a little trim job so you dont have to bust out the compressor and clean all your gear. I think RUclipsrs would watch your video on that. Nice work like always. 👍
One thing I forgot to mention is that if you are going to spray with a Graco FFLP tip then you will need the RAC-X tip guard. (HERE IT IS amzn.to/2MTVbGx) This tip will not fit in your standard Graco guard.
Was wondering if you were going to mention that.
What is the model number or link to the graco machine your using? Thanks and I love your videos!

Finish Carpentry TV I call graco few week ago and they told me you can use the fflp tip on the grey guard too ... not too should who right or wrong but my local paint shop said the same thing as you ..
Use peel-off covers for you full face respirator!!!
1:51 i love how the orchestral music fades in as you put your mask on, and then immediately fades out again when you take it off! :D
Great job on the mantle. Very smart on the full face mask, I know guys who sneer at those who take precautions, your way ensures your kids will have a healthy father for years to come. Keep more projects coming. Great intro too.
Glad to see you putting out new content again Richard! Been enjoying these more frequent videos. Nice job on the mantle! 👊
Awesome video, a fine finish is all in the prep work!! Thanks bro!!
Duuude, those 3M hand maskers are sooooo nice. I use mine all the time, interior and exterior. Such an invaluable tool. 👍
Your 'moon walk' intro clip cracked me up Richard!! LOLOL! Best, Matt

@@FinishCarpentryTV Thank you for the guidance! That's like getting a reply Tweet from President Trump! :-)
@@FinishCarpentryTV Thank you so much for the info-I am addicted to your channel. Just that now I hate everything I did before I saw these vids.
Great advice. Looks so easy.

Wow! A wonderful and helpful video. Filmed very well and good sound.
Great Hollywood effects. Compliments to the director and actor. Appreciate your time with these safety tips and knowledge from your experiences.
Fantastic video, man! Thanks so much.
I love your videos...you taught me how to install baseboard in my house...thanks brother. Keep up the excellent work
I wear the same resperator almost every day. I'm a historical masonry restoration Craftsman. You can order covers for the resperator to keep the lense protected
Very nice work as always.
You can get tear offs or protective films for those full face respirators. Helps keep the clear shield nice and clear long term.
That mantel looks awesome.
Very informative. Thank you.

Great video! Impressive for sure
That was fast paint on the mantel. Cool job
👍thank you!! Good video!
Keep up the good work brother
Awesome intro
I completely agree when i use just a cone and safty glasses the volume of air will move dust around and get in the eyes
Great content 👍.
Love your "old school" work ethic, bro. If I wasn't in the business too, I'd hire you in a New York minute, Richard.
BTW: congrats on the new pad.
Thanks man
Helpful channel 👍
Great video 👍 keep it up
That intro is great!
great video as always. Any chance you have a video on how you built that mantle.
How do you apply your stain to baseboard and crown? Spray or wipe on/off??? And which hole filler is good to use of staining? Thanks , keep up the excellent work!
thanks for the belly laugh I got at your intro! Nice information too.

Can you make a video showing how you clean your paint sprayer after every job?
Will you do a video on scribing baseboard trim to an uneven floor?
No one ever talks about eye protection when spraying. Nice going!
Thanks for the 3M masker tip i was wondering if there was a more professional way to accomplish the masking part
Hey good stuff, one more step (dust off before taping)
Nice intro!

thanks for the tips, question though, do you put protection all over the floor as well? I noticed you only masked off the area you paint.
Bravo on that intro
No dirt bike style peel off sheets to protect the lenses?
Have you tried HVLP. I was thinking about picking a smaller HVLP setup since I don't spray houses.
Are you sanding the mantle then primer, then fill holes if needed, sand, then two coats finish.
I was wondering if you can tell me, what is the best way to cover up seams on mdf? Thanks
What do you use to plug the nail holes in the molding you attach to the walls?

That is funny.. he shows the face mask on... The intro music started and then faded out. Lol..Richard is funny as hell..
Can I used the fflp 310 on the cordless air sprayer from graco? Do I need to change the guard tip to use the fflp?
Hi I was wondering if I could ask a question ? It seems that a lot of people want to know how you do your chair rail to make up for the depth after 3/4 MDF and 1/8 or 1/4 inch backing you use on your wainscoting. If you could do a video on this it would be so helpful . Thanks

What sprayer do you have and do you have a video on how to use it?
for trim and cabinet doors with latex what would you say is better? Turbine HVLP or airless with green tip ?
Hey Richard, what type of primer and paint do you use? Meaning brand.
#4 should be the Tyvek suit. :)
1: Sprayer
2: Trim
3: Paint
Great video, thanks so much. Do you always use paper with the masking dispenser or sometimes use plastic as well? I want to get one but am unsure if I should buy it preloaded or buy the pieces separately. Just not sure on paper or plastic

What’s your go-to for trim? Emerald urethane by SW?
5:10 How do you fix the over spray on that tiny spot that didn't get covered on the wall next to crown?
if you put some plastic cling foil to the mask,it is easy to clean
Lol! Nice dramatic opening. I laughed when you put your hood back on the epic music started building in the background. Hilarious.
yep, me too. The organ addition was fantastic. It helped mask the difference in the sound between the mask and the lapel microphone. Epic idea!
You dont use that battery sprayer any more? Does it suck after awhile.
Nice bracelet! lol
What model graco sprayer did u use to spray this mantel?
We never get to see the finished product? It would be nice if you posted it on your website.
What primer do you use for bare FJ?
Which paint brand do you like best?
Do you use the Graco with both oil and water based? I talked to a guy that didn't recommend missing them

I do and love that paint!!
I have a question, not about this video. I have a client that wants to finish a bay windows interior trim in rough cut cedar, have you ever done it?
so no more cordless graco?
Which airless sprayer are you using ? Thanks
Don Johnson he’s using a graco gx19
Can’t find them respirators anywhere bro
How do you charge a trim paint job
Is the dried paint easy to get off the visor without scratching it up too badly?
They sell peal off lens protectors for those full-faced respirators.
I know this has nothing to do with this video but I wanted to know what your router table setup is?
Yep, same here. I'm always impressed that he can do those big cuts without a full-on shaper.
Where can I get the filters for the respirator?
Sherwin williams
You need a nasa patch for that moon suit
Can you please list the primer sealer you're using the type of paint your using weather at enamel or lacquer and time between coats do you sand between coats

i think i remember seeing him sand between coats before

Just curious if you have ever had issues with airbourne overspray settling on unmasked areas like furniture or anything?
Do you use oil base or water based paints?
Mostly water based. I try to push for water based if somebody wants oil. I do not like oil based products at all.
@@FinishCarpentryTV Neither do I. It takes forever to dry and takes longer to clean up the sprayer. Thanks. Keep up the great work and videos.
😱😱😱😱 No Primer or Bondo to get that piece done, wondering how long the paint will last??? Prep it is everything before painting....
A sandable, non grain raising primer first, sand, vacuum, bondo and caulk, and then paint
*It fits my face well.
