I went through a C-section with my setter Granite twenty-five years ago. It was a Sunday so my vet enlisted me as a nurses aid. Her criteria for proceeding with the surgery was three fold: 1) it was day 65 (late term) from the first breeding 2) Granite was having contractions without any results and 3) her temperature was dropping below what was expected. Granite had 9 pups and we lost one. It’s obvious that you and your vets give great care to your bitches and litters. It’s a wonderful thing that Standing Stone is sharing this information! Way to go Kat!
We just had our first planned litter a week ago (3 pups - all doing great so far!) and I did so much research on the signs of labor. Our girl ate right up until birth, and the only sign I got was her constantly trying to get on our bed (wouldn’t use whelping box despite sleeping in it leading up to birth).. not wanting to stress her out I let her have her way and give birth on our bed 😂 thank god for whelping mats. She’s now very comfy with the babies in the box, go figure.
did you end up losing a pup due to the C-section? The litter my female came from had 2 pups, then too long a period for the next one. They took mamma in and sure enough had one stuck that they lost in the birth canal. She had to have an emergency C-Section and other pups were fine as well as the first 2 born naturally.
No we didn’t lose any pups from the c-section. Unfortunately three of them were quite small and even through constant around the clock care and supplementation we weren’t able to save them.

Have you ever had a female go pregnant past 63 days ovulation? My girl is on day 65 today and we're getting worried.
Please reach out to your vet if you're getting worried. Good luck!

Thank You for sharing your experience. It's terrible you lost the 3 pups but sometime it's not in our hands.
