It is one thing to make it look easy. It is quite another to make it fun. You, Tamara, have that rare combination of talents! Thanks for sharing and keep it up!
Yeah, folks. You're right. But, this isn't 'about' the knife... it's about the ceremony. The process is called "Sabering" or "Sabrage," because of the origins. As mentioned, even a kitchen knife will work. The title "martial arts fighting sword-ing a Champagne bottle" didn't sound as good. If you really want to get into it, it's also not a Champagne bottle I'm sabering. But again... "martial arts fighting sword-ing a bottle of Spanish Cava" just didn't have that special ring to it. ;-) Thanks for the comments.
You mean some losers would saber a bottle with a kitchen knife? How horrifying.
Jimmy Russels Like I said, you can do it with a spoon
Hahaha!
John K Lindgren Thanks!
Tamara, you are fantastic!! So happy to have come across your show. THANK YOU!
Why thank you Marisol! You're so sweet. I very much appreciate your kindness!!
You are a great story teller. And the disclaimer was very funny. The execution of the sabering was perfect. A few months ago I sabered a soy sauce bottle trying to cut off the shrink wrap with a 10" french. Now I have a good reason to buy a sword since I do like champagne and ceremony.
Aw, thanks. Yes, by all means get a saber/sword. Now, sabering soy sauce... saucy! Have fun, and thanks for the comment!
Fucking T-Berg is not only a genteel and über-talented goddess...but this WONDER WOMAN is, oh...how shall I say...BAD ASS?!!!!
Terrific, smart, and funny! I will now subscribe for MORE of the Tamara twist.
Slick Tamara! Thanks for the vid - now all I need is a saber.
That was so cool Tamara!!! kudos to the medical 'professional' too!
Thanks for the tips and the charming presentation !
Dear Lord! She's awesome! What a bonny lass.
Aw... thank you!!
Tamara Berg Good Grief! I can't believe an Überstar replied to me random observation! I am touched. ( that's not my mental state,I hasten to add !)
(blushing) You are too kind. Thank you so much!! facebook.com/TheTamaraTwist/
Tamara Berg I was not kind enough!! Credit where it's due. In the U.K. female celebs are ten a penny. ( The Queen , Elton John ....etc. ) I just had to point out the obvious fact that you are fantastic in a blurted out RUclips comment. I have no finesse. Ü
Thank you!! I don't care about finesse when it comes to compliments! ;-)
Well done, Tamara.
Thanks for making me laugh :) Nice video!
Loved your presentation! Especially the swoosh at 0:49 :)
Aw, thanks!
perfectttt
Pretty Cool!
Thanks!
Do they make mini sabers?
this looks so cool! but if the bottle neck breaks, won't it leave behind broken glass particles ?
Actually no... the force of the cork exiting the bottle (along with residual wine) blasts away any glass shards. But if you're concerned, pour the bubbly through a strainer. And thanks!
BTW... "diablovalley"... my old stomping groungs...do I know you?? ;-)
Hey, thanks for the reply! And no, I don't know you.
My pleasure!
;-)
I saw another video on RUclips and the chef said that Cristalino wouldn't work, but it obviously worked beautifully for you! I'm very indecisive for which wine to practice with now. I don't want to waste $40+ if I fail.
+Valerie Lozada Sorry for the late response... the key is making sure the bottle is super cold. The 'fails' I've seen usually involved the bottle not being cold enough. (One famous one, on live TV... those lights certainly warm things up!) You might try it on a less expensive bottle first.
Should post this video on the Wikipedia entry on "Sabrage". It showed me exactly how it works!
so this is how I opened my "jarritos bottle", I did not know it was an actual thing.
+Arturo Benitez ;-) Most soda bottles don't have enough pressure inside. Good for you!!
Tamara Berg I now feel ever more special. Here is the picture of the bottle. imgur.com/P8JhyC3
That's so great. Nice pic. Keep up the good work!
Would this work with any bubbly bottled beverage or only on champagne? And any champagne if thats that case or only certain ones?
+seekermoonwolf There's nothing special about Champagne other than being from the Champagne region of France. This works with any sparkling wine, so long as you chill the bottle.
2:53 youre welcome lol
Love it... 'cept it was a katana you were using...
>.
Hey Tamara! Can you teach me how to build a terrarium? THANKS
Hey! I actually don't know how... um...
Did one when I was a kid. Stones, maybe some earth, plants, voila. ?? ;-)
Tamara estás super guapa!
Aw, thanks... gracias!! ;-)
did u have to apply much force to the swing?
Hey Rich, no, not too much force. Just be bold. The main thing is to have good follow-through. ;-)
Thanks, it took me about 4 swings with my sharpened cavalry saber to get it to lob off.
Ritch15 You may need the bottle to be colder next time. When I did it last week, I put the bottle in the freezer for about 7 minutes. Worked like a charm! (And it always looks cooler if you get it on the first swipe!) Or you can put it upside down in the ice bucket before removing foil and muselet to get the neck very cold. Have fun!
Thanks for your instructions Tamara, I was a hit with my friends for having done this. However, I let the champagne coated blade in the open and unwiped a little too long and the acidic champagne has now left stains on the blade. I tried cleaning it with soap and warm water, glass cleaner (as suggested by some), and even metal polish. What do you suggest for effectively cleaning a blade used for sabrage?
Ritch15 Hey Ritch... I'm so glad you were a hit! As for cleaning the blade... you're a bit out of my area now. If it's steel (I assume it is) you might try a paste of baking powder and a bit of water, rub/buff it with a soft cloth. It's a very gentle abrasive (I use it on sterling silver), and might buff out the stain a bit. Other than that, your guess is as good as mine. LMK if this helps!
que hermosa que sos ! besos !
Oh, thank you. Muchas gracias. Abrazos! :-)
besos desde argentina♥
I'm sorry, but I cannot enjoy this video when you're using a yakasawi as the sabre.
Okey doke. See my answer below.
Wow. Clearly there is a difference of opinion on the implement: katana, razor, yakasawi, wakazashi. But who cares? The point of this video is not the blade... it's the process. I think it's cool. Thanks for the vid!
