[RETRODEATH] - NOCTURNE PC GAME REVIEW - The Best Horror Game You've Never Played

- One of my favorite games of all time. Why the heck haven't you heard about it? Is it a perfect flawless game? Find out in this unnecessarily long review I made!
NONE OF THE MUSIC IS MINE!!! It's all music I just felt would fit really well with Nocturne. I gave all the credits at the end. (I hope. :D)
One of the songs is pretty low quality, despite being the highest possible quality I have of it. But it fits so damn well with the atmosphere of this game I felt like I had to include it in the background at some point. (Nocternity is an underrated band, go check em out!)
And I know some of the songs are a tad bit loud, the audio is slightly different than how it played in the video editor in terms of the leveling.

Thanks.
It's been a while for now but nazroul's DDrawCompat has had specific fixes for Nocturne/Blair Witch and these games run flawless with that alone and doesn't require any other fixes.
I don't get why you're so obscure. Always thought you reviews were top-notch.
Thank you so much! 🍻Happy to hear that 😁
I probably don't do a good enough job sharing them, not really sure where to honestly outside of retro game pages. :P
I've been a huge fan of this game for well over ten years. I even felt motivated to create something of a fan-sequel machinima series based off it. I'm even developing an anthology series based in the world of the game, specifically the Spookhouse setting with each season being a different set of characters, stories, time periods, etc. I always recommended the game to people looking for an obscure PC horror game. More people need to be aware of it. Thank you for making an in-depth video into it. Cheers.
I would absolutely love to see any Nocturne related work you've done!
@@RetroDeathReviews666 It's all on my channel, my friend! In playlists just as well! And if you wanna know more about them - like the origins & everything - I'd be more than happy to discuss that with a fellow Nocturne lover!
The best horror game I struggled to play myself, and loved watching my older brother play.
As usual, another excellent video. Solid delivery, editing and really ignites my retro gaming passion again! Ya deserve more love
As always thank you so much my friend! Means alot to me that you watch these videos actively and makes me feel like I'm doing something right with them 😅
Loved this game. I always hope for a reboot.
Hi... I just wanted to say that I loved this video of yours about Nocturne and you know that I downloaded your installer for it... I bought this game when it came out but couldn't play it because my PC at the time wasn't powerful enough so my Dad ended up taking it back to the shop and exchanged it... But it always stuck with me and I have always wanted to play it... So guess what I will be doing this coming weekend... Thanks again fellow Nocturne Fan... and DAMN straight this game needs an HD Remaster
Thanks so much for watching!
Really glad to have helped you. :D
Enjoy the game, it truly is one of the best horror games out there imo.
Hello guys, can someone help me about a problem?
While i'm playing game, dark corners are more dark, and i can't go by street, either it's unplayabble.
Playing on windows 10.
Sorry, don't think I've ever encountered that problem ever. ): are you sure it's not your monitor or ingame settings that need some adjusting?
Found you from a grimbeard comment section :)
subscribed matey plus your channel is 15 years old! my channel isnt the one I orignally made in 2007 when I was like 13 :D can't access it anymore as I have rotted my brain with various things but just the date would have me subbed, content is a bonus 🤣
I LOVED this game! I loved it even more once I learned the godmode cheat because I’m a stinker but this really stirred my interest in the genre 🤘
Цікавий факт: заставки зроблені у стилі "snuff movie", як і кліп "Down in It" гурту Nine Inch Nails. а деяка музика також потім використовувалась у грі Severance: Blade of Darkness.
Uhhh....
What "kinky shit" do those vampire women get up to exactly? I need to know for uh.... Spookhouse's research files... yes...
Just finished this game about a week ago. The atmosphere for all of the levels is spectacular and my favorite acts are probably the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd one that had you fighting against Frankenstein Mobsters.
AYYYY NEW RETRO BAYBEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Yeah, lighting. Animations were ASS, though. I remember in my high school years, i was offended for the model and animation quality of Thief characters. Nocturne is better, but, in 1999, i still could do better than THAT.
I had no idea you could actually use the baron as a weapon.
I wished I could’ve used Haystack as a weapon!
I think the main reason the game sold poorly was the system requirements. Ran like absolute shit on my Pentium 166 mhz and Voodoo 3 card.
God I loved this game. Bought it when it came out from EB based on the box art alone. This and Blair Witch: Rustin Parr.
I had this game when it came out, in fact it motivated me to get a PC to fucking play it because the box seemed like the coolest shit on earth to me. I really was bummed when I realized sort of early on the game was a flop and there wasn't going to be a sequel.
Okay, youtube Algorithm. Prove your worth.
Heretic endscreen on your desktop. Instant sub
Great review, I'd play it if given the chance.
got 40 minutes in was really enjoying the content . but its really difficult to discern your voice over the music the audio mix isn't great.
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed :D
And yeah, that's a problem I've had on multiple videos, so sorry about that! 😅 It's harder to tell with the speakers I have, which parts are too loud and aren't. Going back and watching this videos there were definitely a few songs I forgot to readjust the audio for. Definitely gonna triple check with my next videos.
I played this game at original release date. Since then, from time to time i dream of a full modern remake, Resident Evil 4 Remake style.
Ahh i can still dream…
You and I both...
Well, I only started playing this within the last year or two but still been dying for a remake. Played through this game like 3 or 4 times now
2:00 Really? Varg Vikernes?! lol
This was the first PC game I owned, loved this game to death. The best part, the same studio made three Blair Witch Games for PC, all set in The Nocturne Universe!
1:12 FACTS
Great video essay man. Hope you get many more subs. I'm a big fan of the genre, but only from titles around the late 2000s on pc, like the OG deadspace. Its fascinating to learn so much about the history of the genre from channels like this.
I got this back in the day! And played the heck out of this. Loved the story, and Stranger.
I did play this game when it came out. It was so advanced for its time with the visuals and Physics
I own this game and have had a hard time getting it running on a modern PC.
What's the issue you're having?
@@RetroDeathReviews666 Watching through your segment on getting it running I think maybe what is happening is the UI is "hung" and I was thinking it had crashed. Didn't wait 70 seconds. I might try the DX 7 swap and see if that helps.
@teknohed yeah, although that one makes it crash a lot more. It's pretty weird. But yeah give that a shot and let me know what happens. If it doesn't work I'll do a bit more looking around. We'll get this thing working! 💪
@@RetroDeathReviews666 i have an old windows 7 machine…wonder if that would be better to try it on,
@@teknohed Did you give it a spin on there?
Great video and Review, very well made. will watch your other videos soon 👍
Thanks man! Glad to see you back. Wish you used social media so we could talk more about music and stuff.
The US cover looks like an industrial metal album.
or scandinavian black metal
@@przemysawtrzepizur4224 Nah, looks too artsy and trendy for bm. Maybe Swedish melo dm, like Opeth or something...
