For everybody coming to the comments, 11 years later, to point out that it's "NOt tHE FuLL TrACK", can I just point out that the last two-wheeled race on the full Nordschleife was in the mid 1990s, and we have not been allowed to do laptimes on any of the motorcycle training days for the last 20 years. And motorcycle trackdays, and even private hires for laptiming, are not allowed by the management AT ALL.
Just in another nation: imagination. Actually fastest lap (made by pro rider) is with lastest R1 at 7:20. The truth is performance are at their edge since 20 years. Now it's matter of tyres and tarmac.
Traction control, abs and wheelie control makes you slower on this track - due to all the bumps and the constant uphill and downhill changes. I started driving there again , after a gap of 18 years in 2016 with a RN12 the same machine Andy used. Time was around 9 minutes and i wanted to reach 8:30 in the end of the year. During this time Andy was in my workshop often and gave me a lot of tips, including the bike setup. That is the most important part, cause actually this track is like a motocross track with tarmac. I managed to do a 7:50 in 2016. Stock engine, öhlins shock, öhlins cartridge in the stock fork. Dunlop D211 and BST carbon wheels. In 2017 i bought a new R1 RN32 and was unable to beat the time of the old bike for about 2 month. After removing every electronic aid except the e gas i hit the same time. The bike had 204 hp on the MGM dyno. Further improvements with the new bike came after very radical changes, like wheelbase and geometry. Since Andys record nobody has beaten his time. There were a lot of very experienced riders with the newest bikes availible, and the track has become about 10 seconds quicker, due to the changes they made for the GT3 racecars. This lap was something outstanding - hope you are good Andy...
Yeah im sure of all that. Andy never had proper laptiming gear on its bike, all you have is video of wrist on green hell. Stop this fucking stupid bullshit of yours :D If you did beat nordschleife, why did not your bike run on iomtt. It would had beaten every other bike by 20 seconds?
Bloodspartan, I don’t know for sure but typically when that kind of thing happens it’s for safety and/or pits, maintenance, etc. A particular few spots on track which are especially dangerous for GT3-type cars perhaps, or straightening out a short section for an access point or something like that. Usually it’s things like that.
@@isthisagoodname6279 I think flugplatz was shallowed out after a Nissan GTR got airborne and killed a couple of spectators on the VLN. I was driving there one evening around the time of this video and if it is the same rider which I think it is, knew Martin in the Burgstube, came past me before flugplatz and rear wheel was airborne shimmying setting up for the double apex and completely out of sight by the time I was looking down towards Schwedenkreuz. What amazes me is that the bike does 7:10 and does not exceed the top speed of 260 kp/h. The corner speeds were terrifying, the track was slippery at some pints, that was a seriously amazing performance.. Instant favorite.
eternyman I'm guessing you don't track ride super bikes? The rider is well renowned at the Nürburgring as well. www.motorbiketimes.com/feature/people/human-interest/feature-dunlop-teams-up-with-andy-carlile-to-attempt-sub-7-min-nurburgring-$21381883.htm
To be honest it's not what you've got its how you ride it. The power of a big sports bike is mind blowing especially riding it somewhere where it's legal to give it the beans. Safe riding eternyman.
Coming from a non-biker (i'm dangerous enough on 4 wheels), this is just amazing to watch. 7 minutes of jaw dropping, sphincter clenching action. Always had an interest in fast bikes but never considered owning one, ever since internet porn got so available I guess I didn't develope big enough cahonas. It's clear to see he's put a hell of alot of time in on that track and that he was riding to the limits of both the bike and track. Much respect to Andy. Great vid.
7:12 to 7:40, that section is so fckn twitchy, I have problems with my car to get proper grip their, and this guy just hammers through it on two wheels. I have never ever seen a better biker on the ring. God damn impressive, I salute you buddy.
It's great to watch this on a phone screen and tilt the screen left when he banks left and the same with right, keeping your eyes parallel with the horizon, to get a sense of the lean angle he was doing - superb ride, fighting wheelies and wiggles all the way
Sweet jesus Andy - despite my personal traumas near the 'ring - I will never forget laps I did behind you - I am in awe of that lap - all those months/years of studying the track & prep was worth it - Absolutely stunning - very few professional riders could ride that hard on a short track - You deserve respect for what you have achieved - and you have certainly got mine. The ring has a new master !!!!!!!
Motorcycles are not allowed to do full laps under normal circumstances. Only when a major company such as Kawasaki does a promo lap, like the one with the ZX10 ridden by Tim Rothig, can a full motorcycle lap be timed. (see the RUclips video) Presumably Kawasaki Germany hired the circuit as the circuit was clear for the Kawasaki lap. That lap was very rare and may not be repeated any time soon. Motorcycles are restricted to the Bridge To Gantry laps which is about 1.6 km shorter. Tourist laps have mixed traffic which can included cars, vans and buses and vehicles can only do single laps so they need to go through the check point and pay the toll. Consequently any riders trying to do a fast time are usually held up by slower traffic. It's a toll road and there are a few places with speed restrictions. The quickest full lap for a production bike was 7 min 49.71 secs in 1993 by Helmut Dahne on a stock Honda production RC30 VFR 750R. The Tim Rothig Kawasaki lap was claimed to be 7 min 50 sec for a full circuit lap. If this rider, on a stock, slightly modded Yamaha R1, had been able to do the full lap, then it would have been about 7 min 35 secs as Ring experts say that it is about 25 secs extra for the full circuit over BTG. Motorcycles used to race on the Ring but stopped in 1994 due the dangerous nature of the circuit. Motorcycle only track days were held in 2007/2008? but have not been held since I think.
That was Andy Carlisle. He is a lovely bloke, genuine and humble, and I was lucky enough to be staying at the same place he was, so I enjoyed beers, chatted bikes and even helped repair/modify my brother's RSV Mille. Better still, he then took my brother's RSV Mille around the track with me following on my 1050 Sprint. It was nothing like this, but I could still do sub-9 minutes using him sighting the corners.
I 100% relate to you saying about sighting corners. Way back when I was 60 I took my 25 year old Porsche 944S2 there (for it's birthday celebration) and really struggled with confidence into so many of the corners. Then I caught and chased a GT3RS, Bingo, I could watch his roof and have confidence to drive it hard into those corners over brows.... A great experience
Best lap I think I've ever seen of the ring, it's one thing doing a fast time in a car, where, if you get it wrong, you might be in trouble, but one mistake here at that speed on a bike and the chances are it's game over... Riders like this guy really seperate the men from the boys!
The best bike lap i have ever seen was Helmut Dahne on his RC30,one of the most precise pieces of motorcycling it's possible to see on a racetrack . Andy's is the fastest and ballsiest anyone will ever see for a long time, possibly ever given where we are headed with ICE powered vehicles, incredible skill and commitment .
I can't believe this is the first time I've seen this video. Utterly amazing and bonkers fast. So very, very impressive on every level. I'm smiling and shaking my head simultaneously at the skill of the rider. Just wow. Can't wait to share this with my motorcycle friends.
Great video. I definately have to say he knows his track well. To be that close to the curb on those left right left right back and forth turns. That was what was most impressive to me. Almost touching those high unforgiving curbs while redlining through the gearbox was incredible. Well done. GOD BLESS and be careful.
Absolutely horrifying every time I watch. The way the camera captures the raw brutality, mixed with the lap record, mixed with traffic. This is the best Ring video, even after all these years. My life flashes before me. "We who are about to die salute you."
Greatride for sure. Would like to see him go again on a well set-up 2015 R1, ZX10 R, RSV4, HP4, Panigale, etc. Give him a clear track and I think sub 7 min very likely.
I’m 52 years old and riding sportbike since 18 and still alive so.....very experience, my man you are one hell of agressive rider there’s a old saying in French (tu tenais le couteau dans les dents )( you were holding the knife between your teethe) hope my English is not that bad. By the way I would guess that you used to ride a 600 or 750 for a long time, just the way you keep the beast so high in the revs, usually a 1000cc rider don’t keep it that high, event racing. Anyway most people’s get scared just going on the highway....in a car 😂😂. Just to say your biker most people’s think your crazy, to get on a race track ..... your good for the big White House, but you ......you beat the hell out of the nürburing...... thanks for the ride, your the king And long lives the king 👑 👌👌👌👌
Used to race 50cc endurance, maybe that's where the high res everywhere comes from :-). It doesn't feel aggressive, there feels like there is grip remaining. And to some extent this is true. Once some suspension improvements were made this pace was repeatable, but getting a clear run is nearly impossible. Anything faster without using sector times never happened.
@@zevak1 A tired, worn out cliche' that has no basis in reality. His quick riding come not from masculinity and blind bravado, where he throws caution to the wind. It comes from years of practice and many, many fast laps of Nurburgring. It comes from skill, judgement and confidence. If he rode on testosterone alone and "massive balls" he would have been dead years ago. I think these "massive balls" comments come from their own lack of skill and confidence to ride this quickly. Sure, there is an increased element of risk but riding on adrenaline and being shit scared is a recipe for death.
For those who were wondering why he did take the full straight at the end to do one full lap: It is because this was a tourist day and on those days you have to leave the track after each round because you pay per round. The straight is blocked in the middle so you have to get off the track and insert your prepaid ticket once more into a machine to get onto the track again.
Yes it is a rebuilt wrecked R1. Purchased as a crashed bike then completely rebuilt to near stock specs. I think dampers and springs and exhaust are after market. I don't know if there is different chip tuning or any other mods but I am led to believe it is basically a mildly modded stock bike. Tires are road/track sports compound. Rider is Andy Carlisle and he has done 100's of laps. That's why he is so quick. It is worth noting that this lap is Bridge to Gantry and on a public day with enough traffic to add about 20 secs to his time.
This is sweet, I wish to run Nurburgring someday. It doesn't matter on which vehicle. I also wish there were manier tracks here in India. I think there ia huge scope and return on investment.
Andy, that was awesome!!! RESPECT!! You and your bike could 've been faster if there wasn't anybody else on the track with you! Thank you for sharing this with us!! I visit the Nordschleife very often and this is a fantastic way to learn the track, just watching your video over and over again!! I love it! Keep it up :-) Regards from the Netherlands
This laptime is in top 5 Nürburgring Lap Times "Part-time hotel worker Andy Carlile recently set the fastest ever recorded bike lap of the fearsome German circuit on his standard-engined Yamaha R1 - by accident."
How must those other bikers have felt thinking they've got it nailed and this guy comes flying past!? Given the right bike and no traffic, I can see this guy doing sub 7m.
Such incredible skill and balls! With such a tiny contact patch with the road compared with a car and the physical effort to climb all over the bike. Awesome!!
I've done appx 40 laps on bikes, ZX-7R, Street Triple and R1, and my best BTG was 8.19.3 chased by a very fast 911 Track Day car. This guy (Dale) has the guts and the talent in a class of his own. And then even with cars on the track!! Those of you been there will know... ;-)
The Zonda R's time of 6' 47.5" is over the Nordschleife's full lap of 20.8km/12.9miles. This bike's time of 7' 10.0" is only from Bridge to Gantry, 19.1km/11.9miles... a shorter distance by 1 mile!
Amazing. I see a lot of comments and shares not understanding that it is not a full lap, comparing to full lap times of other runs. I don't think BTG (Bridge To Gantry lap) is commonly understood. Still amazing.
I was lucky enough to get coached by Andy (the rider) in driving the ring in 2016. Was a wet morning but still had the time of my life. He knows the ring like the back of his hand for sure. Every bump...
brendan foster (rip dude) at sliders motel taught guy martin the ring as it goes. bren held unofficial record for years. great in a car also. i can vouch for that! lol
They dont want bikes coming along and shitting all over their lap records, but really this track is very slippery. Guys on four wheels have been known to refuse racing here.
they should have a bike race here, set it up so its a time trail like the iom tt and then see how fast bikes can really go, with a top tt bike and top rider I reckon they could lap in the 6.30 area
9 лет назад
+northern 40 seconds faster? Maybe, I won't say it's impossible, but it would be hard because this guy is a hell of a rider and I guess is motorcycle is street legal.
That is nothing .... I did the Green Hell in 16 minutes in my Nissan Navara! It scared the crap out of me because of how fast it was ... how fast every car on the track overtook me!
Incredible lap there mate, the nurburgring is definatley on the list of tracks I want to do on the track bike.......that sure is one flying lap and on the limit
Well, we all can't afford supercars bro ;) I think you can get a lot fun out of it, just like in Top Gears reasonably priced car challenge =D. I'm heading to Germany next week and I am so tempted to ride this track on my z-750, even tho I know I am just blocking the road big time since I don't have kneepads with me and I do not know the track well.
NoUrSe Dey BoA Because it's fun! Taking a slow car right to its absolute limit is much more exciting than taking a supercar and using maybe 50% of its capabilities. Because let's be honest, a vast majority of drivers cannot just hop into a RUF Yellowbird and be a driving Lord with it. Most drivers will be able to thrash a 1.2 Polo.
i'd love to see a full TT spec bike have a crack at the zonda r's outright record, on a closed track and full lap with john mcguinness for example I reckon he could get below 6.30
On 28 April 2007, Nick Heidfeld drove a BMW Sauber F1.06 Formula One car around the Nordschleife, on a BMW publicity day in combination with a VLN 4h endurance race. Road & Track magazine reported Heidfeld's lap was a 5:57 or 5:58 (for the Nordschleife only), breaking the track's six-minute barrier for the first time in history. According to F1 Racing magazine, BMW engineers had estimated that a BMW-Sauber F1.06 could lap in under 5:15.8 which equals to an average of 237 km/h (147 mph).
Impressive, there's a fella who hit the IOM circuit with the camera on a stick mounted on the back end, the visual experience is brilliant, well worth a look.
No CABS just me. Matching revs to road speed is something I have always done. Wiring loom is almost stock ( a little bit of lightening) as I need all the lights and charging system in tact. Thanks for the comments.

Sure, there is an increased element of risk but riding on adrenaline and being shit scared is a recipe for death.
droceretik I’ve been on 2 wheels since I was2 years old, you think that after 35 years of riding I don’t know what it takes to go fast?
Wow!! Really impressive. Thanks for recording it cuz I would have never see the ring like this.
1. This guy is crazy.
2. He basically lived and breathed in the Nurburgring since 2007.
3. Combine those two and set a record on the Nurburgring.
4. Could have died trying if he was clueless.
Ultamit rush..
Because doing a task that isn't like climbing a mountain allows you to be stupid and mistakeful
Wow, that's some balls of steel right there! Awesome!
For those who were wondering why he did take the full straight at the end to do one full lap: It is because this was a tourist day and on those days you have to leave the track after each round because you pay per round. The straight is blocked in the middle so you have to get off the track and insert your prepaid ticket once more into a machine to get onto the track again.
thanks dude...
Andy you have my undying admiration for this feat. I can only imagine how fast you would have been on a dry track with no traffic. :)
This is amazing, I'd love to see you on a 2015 R1 on this track!
Could have gone even faster without traffic on the track! :)
That's what I was thinking.. insane...
Aye at least another 10 secs off
Why don't the sponsors rent the track for this guy? I'm sure every single component would sell as this is proven to work material.
@@antdx316 Old comment but you are not allowed to run official motorcycle runs anymore.
@@Liphzzy who died or got injured that made this happen?
Got my knee down in my office chair! Wow.
What an astonishing lap, without electronic aids nor ASC in that bike, you have definitely mastered that bike.
Nice lap. This guy is pretty good on the brakes in some of the tighter corners.
pretty good? It's the fastest Nurburgring lap ever set on a motorcycle.... lol
Oh is it? What about the 7 min 49.71 set for the full circuit of 20.81 km by Helmut Dahne in 1993 on a Honda RC 30.
Solid piece of riding, good use of track, slick overtaking...no drama anywhere. Thanks for the share.
I'm going on my bike in a couple of weeks. I'll do it in 7.mins and 9 seconds but my camera will fail so i can't prove it
g4rr377 Fair enough
I burned the track with my 5:50 time, too bad the camera couldn't survive under the pressure of my titanium balls.
I did a lap on foot in 4:06 but i left the camera in my pocket by accident
Strapped a camera to the R1 and said I’m getting a world record today
Realy pure awesome riding. With the Yamaha R1 it's astonishing.
And I believe his r1 is from 2004
haterboy I see there is no riding aids.
This guy was WORKING the track, that was amazing
7:10 and slowed down by traffic too! Amazing time:-)
Andy, that was awesome!!!
I'm seeing a high 6 without traffic
Amazing skills - a rider at the top of his game, and with no regard for his own safety, in pursuit of pure performance. Well done!
This laptime is in top 5 Nürburgring Lap Times
"Part-time hotel worker Andy Carlile recently set the fastest ever recorded bike lap of the fearsome German circuit on his standard-engined Yamaha R1 - by accident."
I just read the article in the Fastbike. Respect! You´re a perfectionist and that´s the result. Keep on...you will beat the 7 min! :)
Clearly lost some time while stuck behind slower traffic in turns. Thats too bad :/
I so love this video. I watch it a couple of times every year.
Three words. BALLS. OF. STEEL.
Sean Allen Two words:Titanium balls
@@AmongUs-mb4qx Why titanium?
V-e-r-y impressive. Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
How must those other bikers have felt thinking they've got it nailed and this guy comes flying past!?
Given the right bike and no traffic, I can see this guy doing sub 7m.
Fell off my stool watching this and trying very hard to eat dinner, wow, the guys got what it takes, 👍
Thanks for the upload and the links in the description!
Pizza-Hut delivery driver training video?
That was EPIC!!! My full respect to you sir. Impressive beyond belief.
I'm guessing 229 people got overtaken by him at the ring?
Such incredible skill and balls! With such a tiny contact patch with the road compared with a car and the physical effort to climb all over the bike. Awesome!!
how can you sit on that bike with those massive balls.. :) great vid
best 7 mins on a video a have ever seen hats off to u bro what a drive m8
I've done appx 40 laps on bikes, ZX-7R, Street Triple and R1, and my best BTG was 8.19.3 chased by a very fast 911 Track Day car.
This guy (Dale) has the guts and the talent in a class of his own. And then even with cars on the track!! Those of you been there will know... ;-)
7:18 how gnarly was that
i could never
ur a legend!
This guy is on a fucking mission!
Every bump...
be great to see the likes of guy martin or michael dunlop go round this!
Guy, Tyco and North Productions were up for it, the circuit said no apparently.
The circuit probably thinks Guy Martin is totally bonkers. Spot on.
GeraldRisch yep he's a motorcycle racer! He'd post a decent time for that circuit tho...
brendan foster (rip dude) at sliders motel taught guy martin the ring as it goes. bren held unofficial record for years. great in a car also. i can vouch for that! lol
They dont want bikes coming along and shitting all over their lap records, but really this track is very slippery. Guys on four wheels have been known to refuse racing here.
I just watched an OAP (72 yr old) go round in 7:30 on his son's Panagali. Well worth watching.
Yeah, old school, theres a few of us left.
they should have a bike race here, set it up so its a time trail like the iom tt and then see how fast bikes can really go, with a top tt bike and top rider I reckon they could lap in the 6.30 area
+northern 40 seconds faster? Maybe, I won't say it's impossible, but it would be hard because this guy is a hell of a rider and I guess is motorcycle is street legal.
just one thing to say WOW. Looked up lap times on wikipedia and you need a full on race car to beat this time! respect Andy.
I would have crashed on the first corner.
@jujitsuman68 I would have crashed on every bend.
I would have crashed before even starting
I crashed just by watching this.
i would've crashed before the Nordschleife was made
So that's how you gonna play, huh? Fine. I would crash before Germany wasn't even Germany. Beat that.
Frantic pace. Brilliant video. Great performance ❤
why some peoples come to nurburgring, with ther Renault Kangoo?
Well, we all can't afford supercars bro ;) I think you can get a lot fun out of it, just like in Top Gears reasonably priced car challenge =D. I'm heading to Germany next week and I am so tempted to ride this track on my z-750, even tho I know I am just blocking the road big time since I don't have kneepads with me and I do not know the track well.
NoUrSe Dey BoA There were people going there with campers :D
NoUrSe Dey BoA Why not?
NoUrSe Dey BoA Because it's fun! Taking a slow car right to its absolute limit is much more exciting than taking a supercar and using maybe 50% of its capabilities. Because let's be honest, a vast majority of drivers cannot just hop into a RUF Yellowbird and be a driving Lord with it. Most drivers will be able to thrash a 1.2 Polo.
its the experience...carousel for one!
You seemed to be in danger from the very first turn to the last one. But did dealed with it 7 minutes long. I wouldn't be capable of this. Well done
Damn son
He was in a hurry to get home....beer was getting warm.
I'm lost for words. This lap was out of this world.
Near life experience.
My man was the fastest thing out there, nice ride brother!
People who don't know what BTG means, shouldn't even be watching Nurbrugring videos.
It has been long long time since I have seen a rider run the curb...amazing ride!!!
i'd love to see a full TT spec bike have a crack at the zonda r's outright record, on a closed track and full lap with john mcguinness for example I reckon he could get below 6.30
Wow! That was very exciting! Respect for the driver´s skills!
Thanks for the compliment, come and say hi if you see me on your next visit.
Very good camera work under the circumstances. Nice to have nothing coming the other way...
Impressive, there's a fella who hit the IOM circuit with the camera on a stick mounted on the back end, the visual experience is brilliant, well worth a look.
Astonishing bravery, skills and track knowledge. Hard to comprehend he is on road tyres.
big respect ! wie er mit der Karre über die Strecke hackt ist Wahnsinn !
No CABS just me. Matching revs to road speed is something I have always done. Wiring loom is almost stock ( a little bit of lightening) as I need all the lights and charging system in tact. Thanks for the comments.
Andy,WOW! Damp track and you put in that time?!
Upmost respect dude!!!
Ride fast and safe!!!
And on an old model R1! FFS! Excellent!!!!
Awesome riding Andy.
Makes my 08:07 BtG video seem like a road trip ... :)
Still as impressive, well done Andy!!
¡Tremenda vuelta Juan!
Wow, what a clever disclaimer
Nice job!
R1s king of the ring! An older bike too. I miss my 05 now :/
Great lap, i love to se this level of comitment!
