We had a well stocked kitchen and were taken well care of, never paid anywhere close to what a lot of people could earn elsewhere but people stayed for a long time and we attracted far better people than you could have reasonably expected because it was a good place to work and people actually cared about the employees. I think things like the Sainsburys shop will pay back far more than they ever cost you. Easy for it all to go wrong though when the "business people" come in with there spreadsheets and talk about cutting costs, be careful!

I've worked on streetlights for 7 years now, for doing lantern changes I wouldn't bother with using a grinder, we alway use a reciprocating saw. Don't need a hot works permit and in my eyes safer to use when 10m up in the air over a live lane.
Also cutting bolts that may be under tension can lead to a "ping fuckit!" moment as the bolt suddenly snaps and fly's through the air hopefully not ending up going through someone's windscreen.
We used to use a STHIL saw up in the bucket to remove a really stubborn lantern off a bracket. Most of the time if the grub screws where seized up a few whacks which a lump hammer got them off. I’ve also used a hacksaw on the odd occasion
I've worked for a number of companies where not only do they not provide milk; you have to pay for hot drinks from a shitty Klix vending machine. Company I'm at now; selection of teas, coffees and cold drinks along with snacks and bits, there for everyone to help themselves. At least once a month we get taken out for lunch, or after work of an evening will go out for dinner and a couple drinks... Costs the firm money, but gestures like that mean a lot when everyone works their balls off.

You are a good man, Tom -- a good boss. Look after your employees, and they will, on balance, look after you. Other things apart, you will feel better.
And the roof rack? The weight isn't really an issue. The roof rack probably more than doubles the air resistance - and that's the biggest after like 30km/h
Find a local fella that works on cars as a hobby, there's a good chance they have the things to code the battery to the van. Shouldn't cost you much at all, it takes like 2 minutes. For reference, these things cost like £600, we have one. Hell I'd offer to do it for you for £10, but you're a good 180 miles away haha

Tom I done highways work over here in Ireland (mostly traffic signals) in the past, the company (who are very big in the uk ) used a lone working device to get around the lone working issue its like a little pager with a sim card in it and you clip it onto your belt or something.

Spoke to an openreach guy the other day local to me and he said the van was amazing. He did say if he used the dual carriageway to drive the 4 miles across town, the wind resistance on the ladders reduced the range. But driving through the town there was less wind resistance and loads of regen keeping the range high. The amount of ladders they carry, you’d loose range in a diesel.
Another great video I like the mixed content. Full marks to you how you have grown your company. Have mentioned this before about fire extinguishers is it not part of any regulations you should have one on the vans and in the unit. Keep up the good work.
The Vivaro and Trafic are no longer the same van, the Vivaro is based now on the Citroen Dispatch and Peugeot Expert, and I’m sure the electric portion of that Vivaro E is the same as what’s on the Peugeot 208.
Tom, I currently have a Vivaro E works van for British Gas and carry lots of electric and gas meters as well as all the kit. Easily get 150-160 miles off a full battery, average about 2.3-2.5m/kwh. Like all electrics, it depends on where you use them. In cities and towns you'll do more, on motorways you will most likely do fewer miles off a charge.
Does it have roof racking? Can more than double the consumption at higher speeds. The weight doesn't really affect consumption that much compared to cold (heating) or putting blunt stuff on the exterior.

If they are doing 100km/h++ most of the time - with that racking the mileage might be the truth. Racking or the weight shouldn't affect the range that much if just driving outside the highways.
Could the battery trouble be due to the intverter and water heater also? A regular battery would cope no problem, but the extra constant load on it might be killing them off. Unless you have an auxillary battery for that stuff.
Yeah I wondered the same, thought if perhaps you took those loads directly from the battery terminals then the smarts can’t differentiate between charging the battery and heating the water.

Regarding the range with the Vivaro e I would say how you drive it can affect the range. The only you’ll find out is to try one for a month with your driving style.

Just a FIY, used a small 12v grinder - Milwaukee Cut Off tool - and from one sparkie to another, that thing is so handy it's gold! Cut armoured cable? Cool no worries. Cut a normal cable? Cool no worries. Cut a metal grill/mesh? Cool no worries. Cut cable tray, Unistrut (when it's just a 1 off cut, or a very small task)? Cool no worries. Also a quick question: you have any reviews on the Bosch 12v range? I have Milwaukee, but they're ridiculously expensive and I don't fancy the price tag every time I need to replace them.

Re: Van battery situation.
It might be advisable to look at the Carly OBD dongle, I think you are able to code a new battery yourself with them.
Totally agree with the fan Tom.
Great video as always. It's fun to watch all aspects of the business. Not sure what camera you're using but mine has a 50Hz/60Hz setting, if I use the 50Hz setting it inhibits the flicker.
Did you ever work out VTAC lights Tom and if so what do you think of them?!
Thanks Tom, bloody brilliant 👍
Its likely to be a efb or agm battery tom, you have to change the battery like for like, these weigh a tonne. Dont put a standard lead acid battery on tom.
Love the IDGAF part 😂😂
Here in Ireland thats all we use, 2 row and 3 row boards (double and triple stack)
Another great video has always Thomas
When I was doing some work in a Fashion magazine office, just off Park Lane in London, the facilities manager said to me, "no matter how well I do my job, if the vending machine runs out of chocolate bars, I am the biggest C*** that ever existed".
Vivaros aren’t rebadged Renault Trafics any more, Vauxhall are owned by PSA so that’s a rebadged Citroen/Peugeot. Also available as a Toyota and Fiat as Renault have stopped rebadging the Trafic as a Fiat.
A lot of companies could learn from you, how to look after their staff. Things like little treats really go a long way to keeping employees happy and productive.
Superb content. Just one problem, the radio mic, or the lav mic lead is faulty. Getting a ‘pop’ every so often when listening on headphones!
MSA V GUARD 950 is what we use in germoney ;)
1:45 you also have to remember you're the one putting your name to it. If something happens, they'll look at the EICR and see your name written on it. Just have to think whether you're comfortable with it. If by the regs it's not a fail, you can't fail it but can always advise it
Never broken into a clients house but I've had to climb out the window of an empty ground floor flat for a housing association as the front door wouldn't open from the inside to get out after doing what was a period inspection back then (Eicr) as the lock had failed.
That's not a Renault Trafic.
After 2020 It's an Citroen Jumpy / Peugeot Expert.
After PSA took over Opel/Vauxhall.
