  • www.veritas.org/talks - Cambridge scholar Peter Williams answers USC's toughest questions about the Bible at The Veritas Forum. Moderated by Dead Sea Scroll expert Bruce Zuckerman.
In this clip, Williams and Zuckerman share their perspectives on how to deal with contradictions in the Bible. Williams suggests that many such cases are deliberate contradictions to draw out important meanings, and that he hasn't found any unreconcilable statements. Zuckerman suggests that the writers were more concerned with the message and less than the details.

@@justingichohi470 Ok but there are ZERO CONTRADICTIONS IN THE BIBLE PERIOD ...e.g. on the first example ...the God loved the world one ...it's very easy , John 3:16 when saying "world" is referring to all of MANKIND not the planet Earth ...the very next verse corroborates this:
"he didn't come to the world to condemn the world but so that the world could be saved through him"
here he is clearly talking about people and more specifically the non believers
Paul when he said "world" was talking about the things non-Christians do such as greed, money , fame and so on, Paul said christians are hence commanded to NOT LOVE those things.
The one in Samuel that says God doesn't change, we have to see in what change in that verse really means iN RESPECT TO WHAT... in that passage God was speaking to the REMNANT of the Israelites or the tribe of Judah, with reference to them God was simply saying he doesn't change with respect to the promise he made to Abraham that his seed would go on to live forever....the tribe of Judah is still around and the other 11 tribes were destroyed by the Assyrians and Babylonians. No contradiction whatsoever

@@AutotuneSucksBalls Congratulations for your effort in cherry picking. The Bible is FULL of contradictions. My favourite one is the episode regarding Moses in Exodus, trying to convince the pharaoh to let his people go. God gives Moses 3 magic tricks to show the Pharaoh that God is by his side, but he won't be convinced specifically because God will harden his heart to not be convinced. Isn't this a straight, huge contradiction? Later on, he also kills the firstborns of slaves as well, showing he doesn't care at all about slavery. But even if you could have a reason for all of this, it would still not matter, for the Exodus of the Israelites, just as Noah's Ark, the Genesis and lots of other tales have been shown to be fabrications and never actually took place.

@@michaelbellini3946 I love how you protected yourself from being proven wrong by the comment at the end: "even if you could have a reason for all of this, nothing actually took place"
Ok well, yes there is a reason. It could get lengthy so let me just shorten it a bit. God hardened Pharaohs hearth not directly but by allowing the Pharaoh to be possessed by satan himself. See brother, all that business with the serpent talking to Eve and all that is grossly misunderstood and taken out of proportion by both haters and believers alike. the "serpent' is nothing more than the PHYSICAL MANIFESTATION OF SATAN, or satan in a physical form, given he is a SPIRIT. Likewise JESUS is the physical manifestation of another Spirit, the Spirit of God "in the beginning was the Word (Spirit) and the Word became FLESH (a human Being/Jesus)" John 1-1-14 -
That said let me prove to you that satan and the pharaoh were the same person:
"Speak, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great dragon (satan) that lieth in the midst of his rivers" Ezekiel 29-
"Thus was he fair in his greatness, in the length of his branches: for his root was by great waters" HERE GOD IS USING A BEAUTIFUL TREE AS AN ALLEGORY TO SATAN IN THE GARDEN OF EDEN:
"The cedars in the garden of God could not hide him: the fir trees (ANGELS) were not like his boughs, and the chesnut trees were not like his branches; nor any tree (ANGEL) in the garden of God was like unto him in his beauty.
I have made him fair by the multitude of his branches: so that all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied him, To whom art thou thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? yet shalt thou be brought down with the trees of Eden unto the nether parts of the earth (HELL) . This is Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord GOD"
      King James Bible
I'll explain "slavery" in a separate reply .

    • @michaelbellini3946
      @michaelbellini3946 5 лет назад +1

@@AutotuneSucksBalls I don't think that kind of interpretation can really be made. God is crystal clear when in Exodus 4, 21 it's written: -The Lord said to Moses, “When you return to Egypt, see that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders I have given you the power to do. But I will harden his heart so that he will not let the people go"-.
The same kind of statement occurs 6 other times in Exodus and always points to God as acting to harden the heart of the pharaoh and even his generals (not in all of these passages). Saying that satan was involved even when not said specifically would allow any statement of God to be possibly misunderstood because possibly having been stated by satan instead.
Besides, in those passages of Ezekiel, the pharaoh is said to had been sent to the Sheol, which is not really hell but a place for everybody who dies, according to the descriptions

    • @salchichadegrasa
      @salchichadegrasa 9 лет назад +10

What God conveys in the commandment "thou shall not kill" is completely different from the old testament passage. In the commandment perspective, thou shall not kill, He is referring to personal ambitions, in other words, killing for personal reasons, for example, I'm to kill this person because I hate him/her. Only through God's command they are allowed to kill because it is through violation of or disobedience towards Him (sin), are they allowed to kill. There is no contradiction, only misinterpretation from others and yourself ( no personal attack intended, just saying it like it is).

    • @garciaflats

This is your opinion. No where in the bible does it give a description of each commandment. You interpret the way you want it. Just like slavery in the bible, you all make it sound like people were volunteering to be slaves.

    • @salchichadegrasa
      @salchichadegrasa 9 лет назад +6

It's not a matter of opinion or speculation, but a matter of research. Throughout the bible, it is evident that God "contradicts" Himself only if there is some form of disobedience or going against His will (sin) actions taking place. The bible is indeed interpreted many ways, on that I can agree, however, it's the manner in which an individual studies and researches the context and through will one truly know the signification of the bible as a whole.

Everybody else (excluding heretics who many not consider themselves Christians) believes in basically the same God with minor doctrinal differences. Ergo the widespread acceptance of Lewis's Mere Christianity. You'll find that Liberals (proportionally speaking) dislike the book while everybody else agree with it.

We were made in the image of God. We were given a choice at the beginning of humanity whether we rule the world with Gods wisdom, or rule with our own judgement of what is good and evil. You can clearly see the choice that was made even if you don’t share the same faith. People who are evil have a reflection of themselves that they are blind to and those that actively polish their own reflection see clearer and clearer which would come with goodness and love. Obviously peoples ideas of what is good or bad changes from every person to person but the ultimate good is what I believe everyone wants to strive for. You want to be good and just right? Can’t be that without some reflection. The Bible is this sharpening stone for your own perspective. An effective sharpening stone is rough and gives resistances, mainly resistance to one’s own desires and feelings. Nobody is every truly without blemish. No one’s perfect but the pursuit of Truth will set you free. That is what no one can argue against

If your eternal soul is at stake, and the 'How To' book guiding you on how to get your soul up to heaven is full of contradictions, then that's highly problematic.
You'd think THE most important aspect of the New Testament, ie the divine resurrection of Jesus Christ, the entire crux around the meaning & purpose of this claim, has to be absolutely clear & without any doubt or confusion.
Surely God, when sending his son to be crucified for the redemption of all of fallen mankind, would've easily made sure, to absolutely make sure, everyone who's anyone was absolutely sure, that they understood what was going on.
But, what do we have? Gospels written by anonymous authors that are translations of other authors writing decades after & who may or may not have been witnesses to Jesus & his apostles. We are getting translations of translations of oral stories from decades past.
And that's for the best of them, ie Mark. The rest seem to be copying Mark & his sources.
And then we have Paul. A guy who claimed to have a vision. He might have known Jeseus' brother James? He wrote a bunch of stuff & we are to just accept it as gold.
That's so weak. What God would leave THE MOST IMPORTANT aspects of his revelation to a few decades old translations of translations? Just poppy cock.

You cannot receive revelation without the Holy Spirit, despite how 'clear the guide' is, and you cannot receive the Holy Spirit without acknowledging that you (every one of us) have committed sin, repent and ask for forgiveness. Salvation is achieved by repentance, not by understanding every detail of 'the guide'. We all know the difference between good and evil, so we can not play the 'the Bible wasn't clear enough' card on judgment day. It is perfectly clear what we need to do to be saved, and we know it. The rest comes after that through the Holy Spirit. It is what it is, you don't get to tell God what the 'rules' are, it's the other way around. If you put everything out of context, anything can be a contradiction. You can test if by saying it's early morning in your place but from someone who you chat online, they said it's midnight. Those two are in complete contradiction so therefore they're cannot be both true, right? Both are false since logically it cannot be early morning and midnight at the same time. And yet, if you know that there are different time zone across the globe, you begin to understand that both "contradicting accounts" can actually happen and are factually true. It isn't a contradiction at all if you know the context behind it. The same with the Bible - and everything else, for that matter.

you have to see the context friend don't be foolish all you skeptics have you even read the entire bible at least once? I'm willing to say none of you have. When God said I "do not change" we have to see who he was talking to and what change means with respect to what. I could change clothes or change my mind but you wouldn't know which it is if I just say "change" and nothing else would you? The verse when God said "I do not change that's why you haven't been consumed" he was talking to the REMNANT , that is what was going to be left over of the 12 tribes of Israel after being destroyed by the Assyrians and Babylonians as a judgement form God for their wickedness and idolatry. That remnant was the tribe of Judah (Yahudim) or JEWS, these people God let live because of his promise to Abraham that his seed would go on to live forever, God cannot break a promise or "change" his mind with respect to a promise , he kept it and the Jews are still around. That's it no contradiction

There’s a problem with his explanation. He answered the question early on and then still wanted to give a long drawn out answer that not only not answered the question but also made his point have less if an impact. Contradictions? There aren’t any in the bible. You have to know context. What is being spoken of in context? What does it mean? What did it mean then and what does it mean now? He also tried to imply that he also believes in evolution in the macro sense. How? He said that language has only been around for the last few centuries or so. What does that mean? How many is a few? Did he just ignore that human speech and language has been around since creation of man? Or does he not believe in evolution and meant he believes in a young earth?

"No man", when it appears in scripture, should be interpreted as PRACTICALLY no man.
"Nobody dances the jitterbug any more'" is actually a true statement. Very few people do. You can go to night club after night club in town after town and not see anybody jitterbugging. But it's not LITERALLY true---some few people here and there still jitterbug.
Sometimes when you read the Bible, or try to discern God's will, or do anything, you have to apply a little common sense.

3:23 This guy says there aren't easy to see concrete contradictions like, the example he cites, present in the Bible. Either a person was in place A or in place B.
But, just reading the Gospels, there are many basically contradictory examples like this. Who came to the tomb to discover it was empty? Were there angels there or just men? Where were the apostles told to go after the crucifiction? Was the robe purple or red/scarlet? Was the tomb's stone in place or was it already open? And on & on. These are such basic things that one would think a basic editor would say, 'hang on, we've gotta get this stuff aligned'. But, alas no. And, to top it off, there are ppl who argue these contradictions prove the validity of these accounts because people's everyday testimony tends to differ. Man, that's some clever mind fuckery going on.

Well said, Dr. Williams. The good thing about having thousands of documents from the NT is that you can go back and check the scriptures. I also agree with Bruce Zuckerman, I don't find a problem with the difference between Genesis 1 and Gen. 2. One gives an overall view of creation and the other focuses on the placing of man in the garden, so what. There is nothing wrong with declaring contradictions (apparent) in the scriptures (higher criticism) such as Bart Ehrman does. However, that does not mean that ancient authors have to fit into the category of precise interpretations. The overall meaning remains the same. I do not deny that some scriptures are difficult to reconcile, however there is more than one way to skin the cat, so to speak. There are ways to reconcile many of these supposed contradictions (paradoxes). Modern skeptics like to charge believers by saying, there you go trying to reconcile that which is not reconcilable. That is their opinion - these were human authors whom God used to tell a narrative. It is only fair and wise to look at the reality of such disparities, such as the resurrection accounts and ask if we, today, are merely charging the authors with imprecision, when the truth of the matter is that there was so much happening in these accounts that they recorded them in such as way that time and circumstance must be considered. The resurrection accounts and other events are recorded in all four gospels, indicative of their importance. One account has the women running to the garden, another records the Roman centurion, another this, etc., So what!

The Bible Says that God is Jealous God, it also says that " God is a Holy god and can be nothing but Holy? But if I were to brake the 10 commandments i would not be considered Holy. Which to covet thy neighbors property is to be Jealous of thy neighbors Property, which is not Holy. So if God is Jealous he is not Holy or Righteous. Becaus to brake the 10 commandments is not holy. Therefore the Bible is In Contradiction. The image of god not devote. So the Bible is in improper accumulation of what Holiness means, which is a major lac in a political identity or Politically correct identity.

You are confusing apples and oranges when it comes to the meaning of "jealousy" friend , please allow me to explain.
God used "jealous" in an allegoric way to his relationship with Israel, ALL THROUGHOUT THE OT, He considered Israel as his "wife" in spiritual sense, he describes this relationship extensively , when Israel went after false Gods and forgot about their covenant with Him he entered in a state of jealousy like a husband becomes jealous when someone tries to take what's lawfully his, and what belongs to him rightfully in common agreement through the institution of marriage. God was "married" to Israel though a COVENANT a mutual agreement that Israel later broke. He called israel a "harlot" that went after its "lovers" , The jealousy you are describing is a different jealousy , it's more coveting another person's property rather that the feeling you get when your wife/property has fallen in strange hands. Here is one of the descriptions of jealousy I found in a paper in modern psychology:
Jealousy : When a person perceives a threat to a valued relationship from a third party.
God can be both Holy and also perceive that threat described above and have feelings about it without any change in his Holiness.
      God bless friend

The simplest strategy to make sense of contradictions in the Bible:
    Just acknowledge that:
    1) Every word of that collection of writings was written by a fallible human.
    2) Every claim made in the Bible was made by a fallible human.
    3) Every claim made about the Bible was/is made by a fallible human.
    4) Every interpretation of the Bible was/is made by a fallible human.
    5) The Bible is therefore the "Word of Humans" and NOT the "Word of God."
There. It is now entirely comprehensible.

    • @peterblock6964

My comments, @Deyandra Hutama, do not require blind faith.
They are easily confirmed by any independent thinker.
      No assumptions required.
No twisting into mental pretzels of contradiction required.
¿Care to seriously debate any claim in my original post?
      … Without resorting to "faith,"
which just means "I believe it because I want to believe it,"
or "I obediently believe it because I was told to believe it by my religious masters."

    • @peterblock6964
      @peterblock6964 Год назад

      Sure @Deyandra Hutama.
People who are either Christian or Jewish (for the Old Testament anyway) treat the Bible as "The Word of God." But we have exactly zero words in writing that "God" himself wrote down.
So every claim about "God said, God did, God wants" is just fallible humans claiming "God said, God did, God wants." There is exactly zero definitive instruction from "God" anywhere.
      Even regarding the New Testament:
Jesus himself chose to not write down one definitive word of instruction.
(Personally, I consider that choice of Jesus to be extremely significant.)
We have the alleged recollections of first hand witnesses (apostles) and 2nd hand witnesses (Paul). Paul's letters, assuming they're validated as in his own handwriting, are still 2nd hand witness as Paul never met Jesus in person, so we have Paul's fallible understanding of his visions and Paul's entirely fallible interpretation of what this new religion should be.
That brings up another point: Even an eye witness does not necessarily understand the meaning and significance of what it is they were witness to.
So all interpretations of direct spiritual experiences any particular biblical writer had are their own imperfect and fallible interpretations.
Biblical writers made a lot of claims about the significance and meaning of their writings.
Any claims about "God" being the inspiration or giving dictation, etc. are fallible human claims.
No one can even begin to accurately comprehend any biblical text as long as that person indulges in the indefensible belief that the Bible is unquestioningly the "Word of God."

    • @peterblock6964

If someone presented you with such a claim, ¿Would you take that claim seriously?
      Of course not.

The one I struggle with is that woman came from man, as Genesis teaches - although I do appreciate that the story teaches that men and women were meant to function together. Anyway, genetics shows that we all develop inside our mothers starting as pairs of XX chromosomes. It’s when one pair mutates into Y chromosomes that the fetus is on its way to being male. Those fetuses that maintain their X chromosomes are born female. That then means that men actually come from women, figuratively and literally. This is exactly opposite to the scriptures.

No, they don't. Just FYI, we don't even know when Thallus' lived so the connection with Jesus' crucifixion is entirely spurious. We don't have his writings either. Rather, we have a quote of a lost work written by Julius Africanus that comments on another lost work by Thallus and saying absolutely nothing about Jesus. I think it's worth pointing out that ancient historians reported all sorts of hearsay and while Africanus' objection to the darkness being caused by an eclipse is correct, it's not at all evidence that the event reported by Thallus even happened - let alone in connection with Jesus' death. The simple explanation, if Africanus is interpreting Thallus correctly, is that Thallus either reports on an impossible event that never happened, or that he is wrong about the darkness happening during a Passover. However, it's hard to tell, as we have no context or even a direct quote of anything.

    • @Gnomefro

Rim Rider4 _"People would be making the same attacks of they were the same exact story. Take care :-)"_
Obviously they would not. If they were the same story it would just be a straight copy, as a ton of other stuff is in the gospels. The straight copying from Mark in Luke and Matthew are almost never mentioned by critics of Christianity even though it is massive. The reason for this probably is that the gospels are so implausible in and of themselves that the collaboration factor that clearly is there is a very minor objection compared to, say, the absurdly diverging accounts of the crucifixion - supposedly told by eye witnesses who systematically forget to enumerate the presence of either themselves or the other male eye witnesses, while also disagreeing about which women the event involved and whether supernatural creatures like angels were involved or not.
Now you may scream "Not a contradiction!" all day long, but absolutely nothing about those accounts are even remotely plausible - with the idea that they are eye witness reports being one of the most idiotic claims being made about them. Even if the gospels weren't anonymous and written in the third person, they simply have no credibility on internal grounds. Hell Mark even ends with the women fleeing and allegedly never telling anyone about it. Such a formulation is clearly that of the narrator in a fairy tale, not an eye witness, nor someone who has heard the story from said women as that would be a logical contradiction.

Like all the contradictions that people try to identify, Christian scholars have been researching for hundreds of years. This one has an answer which has been known for about that long. There is not enough information included to realistically cite it as a contradiction. Simple scenarios which may explain the differences are too easy to find.
The video here is evidence of that sort of scholarly investigation. No avoidance is necessary.

    • @brandonbrooks3979
      @brandonbrooks3979 7 лет назад

The accusation that Luke and Matthew copied Mark is always mentioned, I don't understand? While it's certainly possible that Matthew and Luke "borrowed" information from Mark's gospel, I find it unlikely given two factors: One, all three gospels, when harmonizing over one another, still offer different wordings and different perspectives of the same stories, making it unlikely that they were "copying" off one another. Second, some of Mark's version of the stories are actually longer than Matthew and Luke's, and if the latter two are copying off the former, then it makes less sense why their versions would be shorter. This idea that Mark was first is pushed by scholars only because it's the shortest, this however doesn't need to be the case, Mark could've been shorter for a specific reason. If we're also going with the notion that the other gospels just "added material and embellished it a bit more", this is also a faulty ground considering that Mark has more miracles than all the other gospels, and, again, certain details in overlapping stories that aren't found in Luke and Matthew. There is also plenty of external evidence from the earliest church fathers, many of whom lived in different time periods and lived distant from one another, who all unanimously agreed that the order of the gospels we have is the order they were written in.
Now, as for these supposed "contradictions", it's extremely common for ancient historical documents that depict the same events to be like this. Ancient history wasn't recorded in a linear and factual manner as today's history is, authors would often record history to record, convey, and preserve certain themes behind the historical events they were recording. Which is exactly what you find in the four gospels; four authors telling the same life of the same man, but all having different things to say about him. This fits in line perfectly with how the rest of ancient history was recorded. It's also not uncommon for historical documents to include or omit certain details or whole sections of events altogether. Even ancient historians, such as Josephus, when writing about their own lives would seemingly contradict themselves! Again, the aim of authors at the time was to relay the history with a certain theme, so some details may be more useful or useless in one setting as opposed to another. These are not contradictions, but simply retelling of the same stories from different people. Even today in court cases witnesses to the same crime scenes will retell the same story with a different lens. Any prosecutor, lawyer, and investigator will tell you this. Even if we're performing a little thought experiment, think of it like this: If you and three other people followed around a good friend of yours, let's call him Joey, for a few years and then later someone inquired you to write the most memorable events, would it all be the same? You make like Joey for his taste in music, whereas one friend would like him for his jokes, or another for his charisma, and so forth. Even when stories of Joey would overlap, there's no way it'd be exactly the same. In the resurrection story, you had several women who witnessed it, so of course their stories would vary from one another.
I would also like to point out that if the four gospels retold the same events in Jesus's life exactly the same verbatim, that would actually discredit them as historical documents. Why? Because that would be easy attacks, both from scholars and laymen, that the other three just copied one of them and there was only one individual source as opposed to three. But instead, we have just enough differences between all of them to conclude that most, if not all, of the events in the gospels came from individual sources.
As for Mark having the women allegedly never telling anyone, this can be seen as their initial reaction to keep their mouths shut, but when later meeting with the apostles eventually opening up about what they saw. Mark presents the resurrection story as one that's mysterious and unprecedented in history, whereas Matthew conveys it as fulfillment of OT prophecies and the vindication of Jesus, John as the height of Jesus's power, etc. It all goes back to different people conveying the same story in a different light.
You're also setting the gospels to impossible standards when you mention that the gospel writers didn't mention themselves or other eye witnesses in their versions of the crucifixion. So you're pretty much saying that just because they didn't list every specific person that was there, it's not credible? If you really want to get detailed about this, here. Mark wasn't an apostle, it's theorized that he might've been there during Jesus's arrested and crucifixion, but there's a general agreement that it's actually a recording of Peter's version of the gospel while Mark recorded everything he said. Luke received all of his information from mostly female eye witnesses, he wouldn't have been at the crucifixion. John constantly conveys that he was present for just about every event he records. Matthew doesn't specify whether he was there at the crucifixion or not, but it's possible he was. I would also like to point out that it would've been useless information for the writers to mention each other. The aim was on what was happening to Jesus, not who watched it. If you read the gospels, the only two apostles who are really given a lot of attention are Peter and Judas Iscariot, mainly for theological reasons.
Lastly, I would like to propose an idea: What's most important isn't the fine little historical details in the gospels, but the theological meanings behind them. When it comes to the resurrection story, it doesn't matter how many women were at the tomb, how many angels there were, if Peter went into the tomb and found it empty or not, etc. While all of these things certainly happened, what's important is that Jesus rose from the dead as a vindication of all of His claims about Himself. That He died for our sins and rose again to liberate us from the bondage and slavery of sin. How many women there were doesn't change that powerful fact.

Actually, nothing changed from OT to NT in the sense that you mean. For example, the NT says the Father judges no one, but he has given it over to the Son to judge. If you read the OT, you'll see that this same relationship is present between YHWH and the angel of YHWH, who is constantly treated as YHWH yet distinct from YHWH. This is the trinity in the OT (with the angel of YHWH being the eternally-incarnate Yeshua). Many times, if not most of the time, you'll see that YHWH gives it over to the angel of YHWH to judge. It was the angel of YHWH, for example, who said that he would (and who eventually did) bring the plagues upon Egypt, yet somehow people believe YHWH stopped sending plagues after the OT because "Christ forgives"... Yet the Lamb is sending plagues in Revelation!
The Spirit puts to death a man who lied about giving all of his positions to the Apostles. Similarly, a man in the OT was put to death for sexually exploiting his wife by refusing her the marital rights of child birth and spilling his seed on the ground. Both of these people would look at and think "the punishment doesn't fit the crime". Paul (quoting the OT) says that the Law was a curse to the wicked and life to the righteous, which gets misinterpreted because people don't read further into the NT to see that Yeshua is also a curse to the wicked and life to the righteous. Particularly, the language used comes from the Psalms: to the wicked Christ is a stumbling block, but to the righteous Christ is the cornerstone.
Yeshua, who is identified with the glory of YHWH in the NT, is the visible image of the invisible God. YHWH, in the OT, called his glory "my goodness".
I could go on and on, but the point is, the sense in which things have changed is that the reality of what was promised in the OT is now here. The character of YHWH remains the same.

The word of God is what we are to live by not by the bible but by what God says. The bible has the word of God in it but not everything written in the bible is what God said. So you have to know the difference between what God says in the bible and what man says in the bible. Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word the proceeds from the mouth of God.

And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.
16 And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. 17 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.
    🤦🏽
And know you know why the attacks are from the inside. The Lord is showing the world how evil it really is.
Also Genesis 1:28 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Replenish the earth before the flood.

    This is the bible-
Genesis 9:3: Everything that lives and moves about will be food for. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.
Leviticus 11:10: But whatever is in the seas and in the rivers that does not have fins and scales among all the teeming life of the water, and among all the living creatures that are in the water, they are detestable things to you.
Leviticus 11:7-8: And the pig, though it has a split hoof completely divided, does a not chew the cud; it is unclean for you. You must not eat their meat or touch their carcasses; they are unclean for you.
So either God lied to you, or the author lied, either one the bible is full of contradictions.
Here is a little more, again the bible-
Numbers 23:19: God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill? (it means God does not regret)
Genesis 6:6: The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled.
So in the end... Does God regret or not. I can't believe people believe in the bible.

Just beating about the bush. Either Bible is divinely written or not.
Would Jesus inherit David's throne? (a) Yes. So said the angel (Luke 1:32). (b) No, since he is a descendant of Jehoiakim (see Matthew 1:11, 1 Chronicles 3:16). And Jehoiakim was cursed by God so that none of his descendants can sit upon David's throne (Jeremiah 36:30).

    • @keepinitreal6547

There are two different lineages through King David given in Matthew and Luke. Matthew gives the line that came from Solomon (which included Jehoiakim), and Luke gives the line that came from one of David's other sons, Nathan. People see these differing lineages as a contradiction, because they both use Joseph's name...but in ancient Jewish culture (as with most other cultures of the time), they would use the man's name for both his lineage and his wife's lineage. So the genealogy given in Luke must be Mary's family line. That means Jesus descended from Nathan and not from Solomon and Jehoiakim. Also, Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit, so He would not be related to King David through Joseph.

The bible states that "God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow". Yet, in the old testament God commanded people to be stoned for sin. But in the New Testament, God apparently has a change of heart and sends his son to die for our sins. Either way, it seems that this God is a masochist.

they were two different situations , people don't understand that those harsh commandments were given to a special group of people , the people that entered Canaan , they were supposed to be a HOLY people given Yahweh DWELLED AMONGST THEM in the tabernacle ....all those seemingly foolish laws were made to protect the people from Yahweh's holiness since anyone that sinned and came in contact with the tabernacle or a holy object could be stricken dead on the spot. Women had to clean up after menstruating, anyone touching a dead corpse had to stay away from the tabernacle, a man that killed another man had to die himself and so on ...it was all to protect the rest of the population and in some cases the people involved from God's holiness. After the temple was destroyed there was no need for such harsh laws hence enter Jesus, the God sent replacement "animal sacrifice" once and forever to atone for sin. The "Jesus died for our sins" phrase is a little bit misunderstood: there were 2 sons of God that ever lived , only 2 : Adam and Jesus (son of God means direct creation of God without human hands) since Adam sinned and died in sprit , this original sin is passed on throughout the ages , we are all born into sin. Jesus by being free from sin at the time of his unjustified death and later resurrection he basically reversed the Adam curse. In the book of Revelation there is an operation taking place as an allegory , it's called the "wedding supper of the Lamb" , Jesus is seen "marrying" his church, as the groom. This is necessary for salvation because as I explained above Jesus is the ONLY SON OF GOD ALIVE RIGHT NOW, we are all copies of Adam and are hence destined to destruction as "aberrations" , by marrying someone the bible says they "become one flesh" . Becoming one flesh with Christ is how believers can become themselves "sons of God" and become eligible for eternal life with Christ. This is said to be "born again" or born in SPIRIT since our spirit is dead on birth, Jesus talked about this in the Gospels "let the dead bury their dead" -Mathew 8:22
to God we are all dead , he sent his son to give us a chance at life .
Hope it helps brother God bless.

@@chad969 Ok thank you for your question I'll be happy to respond brother Chad. Well first of all let's make a chart of the events, then RECONCILE THE ENTIRE THING INTO ONE SINGLE ACCOUNT .. there's a fact you should know ...in each account there are DELIBERATE OMISSIONS or stuff being left out , it doesn't mean the story isn't true or it's contradictory it's just that some events were left out. For example if I told you the family and I went to the mall then which one of the following statements is a true statement? :
      1. I went to the mall
      2. I and the wife went to the mall
      3. I the wife and kids went to the mall
Turns out ALL OF THE ABOVE ARE TRUE ...I just chose to omit some information .
Let's start with the gospel of John and list the events that took place:
      1. Mary Magdalene comes to the tomb (notice no one else is mentioned but her) saw stone "having been removed" runs back to Peter and John and tells them "they've taken the body of the Lord ...."
      2. Peter and John go to the tomb, John stood outside Peter entered ..then John entered and believed ...they went home , the original Hebrew says this tho...suggesting there could have been more than one trip to the tomb given it says "again"
      biblehub.com/interlinear/john/20-10.htm
      3. Mary however stood outside weeping , goes inside sees TWO ANGELS (ONE OF THEM WAS JESUS!!) the angel changed appearance into Jesus then Mary recognizes him , she then goes to tell the disciples I'VE SEEN THE LORD.
4 . Jesus appears to the disciples at their home the evening of that same day
      Gospel of Matthew
      1. Mary came to tomb WITH OTHER MARY
      2. An angel had during the night caused an earthquake then rolled the stone then was sitting on it apparently when the women came to the tomb
      3. Tell's them (the bible says "answered them" meaning a conversation had taken place before this statement that's not recorded in this gospel) . "He's not here He's risen , come see the place where he was lying, go tell disciples , He'll go BEFORE YOU to Galilee
4 . THEY (does not say Mary or any name just "they") ran to tell the disciples then Jesus appeared to them halfways down the way, they TOOK HOLD OF HIS FEET (this is important given in the Gospel of John Jesus told Mary NOT TO TOUCH HIM YET given he hadn't ascended to the Father yet) .
      5. Angel told "them" go tell the BROTHERS OF ME , so they go to Galilee and there they will see me
      Gospel of Mark
THIS ACCOUNT IS HIGHLY SUMMARIZED AND OMITS MANY DETAILS ....IT'S JUST LIKE A SHORT BRIEFING
      1. 3 women are mentioned going to the tomb (Mary Magdalene, Mary mother of James, and Salome)
      2. they saw stone was rolled away, entered the tomb and saw ONE YOUNG MAN IN WHITE ROBE (an angel)
      3. Angel tells them Jesus has risen and to tell disciples and Peter and that he will go ahead of them into Galilee
      4. They fled from tomb
Gospel of Luke NOTICE THAT THIS ACCOUNT WAS NOT AN EYEWITNESS ACCOUNT BUT AN ACCOUNT THAT LUKE WHO WAS A PHYSICIAN HAD GATHERED ALONG WITH MANY OTHERS IN ORDER TO PUT THE GOSPEL OF LUKE TOGETHER, THIS IS WHAT WAS TOLD TO HIM AND HE WROTE IT DOWN AS TOLD:
      1. The "women" came to the tomb , found stone rolled away did not find body then two ANGELS stood beside them (one of them was Jesus but they didn't know)
      2. Angels told them Jesus has risen then they reported this to the "eleven" and the "rest"
      4. Now we have 3 names mentioned that went to Tomb : Mary Magdalene, Mary Mother of James , and another woman named Joanna (Ioanna in Greek) they tell the apostles what the angels said word by word ...they did not believe.
      5. Peter goes to tomb, sees it empty and goes home puzzled
      6. The account ends here.
So here you have the entire thing , it looks pretty convoluted I know but if we put some work into putting it together then everything makes sense. So here is what happened in the exact chronological order , notice Mary Magdalene (and friends) made TWO TRIPS TO SEE THE APOSTLES, amid the second trip they were intercepted by Jesus as we can see in the gospel of Matthew. Let's begin:
      1. There was an Earthquake at night , the stone was rolled by an angel (ONE ANGEL ONLY) and Jesus ROSE FROM THE DEAD , but remained INSIDE THE TOMB AT ALL TIMES , the soldiers froze up (then fled)
      2. Mary Magdalene, Mary mother of James, (plus Salome and Joanna) at least these four women showed up at the tomb , the gospel of John omits all of them but Mary Magdalene (probably because she's the one that spoke to Jesus) another gospel omits Joanna and adds Salome or perhaps it's the SAME WOMAN that had two names we don't know.
      3. The angel (that was sitting on the stone) invited them to see the tomb was empty , there they saw a young man (ONE ANGEL , THE OTHER WAS SITTING ON THE STONE OUTSIDE) with shinny clothing inside..this was the resurrected Jesus in ANGEL FORM (therefore not recognizable to the women), this isn't unique to this account , there were several other accounts of Jesus not being able to be recognized by people , apparently he could change his appearance ...not even Peter and friends could recognize him at one point while EATING FISH WITH HIM. AT THIS POINT NOBODY RECOGNIZED JESUS , THE GOSPEL OF JOHN OMITS THIS FIRST EXCHANGE BETWEEN THE WOMEN AND THE ANGELS , IT JUST SAYS THAT THEY SAW THE EMPTY TOMB THEN TOOK OFF RUNNING TO TELL THE APOSTLES.
      4. They ran out of the tomb and went to where Peter and John were , these two PLUS THE WOMEN came back to the tomb , THE WOMEN STAYED OUTSIDE WHILE THE TWO APOSTLES ENTERED THE TOMB.
      5. Peter and John entered the Tomb , saw it was empty DID NOT BELIEVE YET (the bible says so) and went back home ....meanwhile the women were outside weeping (at least the bible says Mary Magdalene was)
      6. Mary peeks into the tomb then sees two MEN (ANGELS) asks them where they thought the body of Jesus was, SHE WAS FACING THE ANGEL AT THE FEET OF JESUS'S BURIAL CLOTHES , then turns around when Jesus speaks to her and RECOGNIZES the talking angel is JESUS... HE tells her to go tell the disciples and to NOT TOUCH HIM YET.
      7. On the way to go tell the disciples Jesus appears to them (Mary M. and the women) again , this time He let's them touch his feet.
      8. LUKE 24:9 Tells us the account of the women telling the apostles that they had seen the resurrected Jesus but they did not believe them.
As you can see the story is true but with many omissions that are deliberate , God wants to test the faith of people ...many people have fallen for the scam that the gospels contradict each other when it isn't so ...IT'S A MATTER OF BELIEVING ....God bless brother , Peace to you.

@@chad969 Just in case you lost track of the answer to your question ....the first time Mary Magdalene was inside the tomb she talked to ONE angel that told her "the one you are looking for is not here but has risen"
after this she ran to tell the apostles that Jesus' body had been STOLEN, both the apostles and Mary Magdalene ran back to the tomb ...Peter and John did NOT SEE ANYONE INSIDE and left , Mary M. went inside again and recognized Jesus , he told her not to touch Him ...she ran again to tell the apostles she'd SEEN JESUS, but in the way there Jesus appeared to Her again and this time she touched his feet and He gave her some additional instructions...then she repeated exactly what Jesus had told her to the disciples who still didn't believe until Jesus appeared in the room suddenly then they believed.

@@AutotuneSucksBalls Thank you for taking the time to thoughtfully and thoroughly address my question. I have some concerns regarding your explanation though.
As I’m sure you know, in Luke 1 Mary is visited by an angel who tells her that her child is going to be the son of the most high. Rather than responding with skepticism, she responds, “I am the Lord’s servant; may your word to me be fulfilled.” Later, the angel’s promise was vindicated through her virgin birth, at which point she had to have realized with full confidence that Jesus was the son of God. As if that wasn’t enough, Mary was surely aware of many of the miraculous deeds Jesus performed during his ministry. So now let’s fast forward to the day in question. Mary goes to the tomb, finds the stone rolled away and sees two angels whose appearance was light lightning and whose clothes were white as snow. It’s pretty clear from Luke that they realized these weren’t just ordinary men, as it says “In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground”. Considering Mary’s prior experience with angels, it’s hard to imagine that she wouldn’t have realized they were angels. They not only tell Mary and the other women that Jesus had been raised, they remind the women that Jesus had predicted his resurrection, “Then they remembered his words.” (Luke 24:8) Am I really to believe that even after her lifetime of miraculous experiences, and then being told by angels that Jesus had risen, Mary still thought that someone had stolen the body? Really? That’s almost as implausible as Mary seeing the resurrected Jesus on her way back and then reporting to Peter that the body had been stolen. What happened to the faithful Mary of Luke 1:38? If Mary can exhibit that kind of extreme skepticism towards the resurrection in the face of such strong evidence, and still be in god’s good graces, why can’t the rest of the worlds skeptics be given leniency for not believing on the basis of worse evidence than what Mary encountered? Sure, she eventually came to believe he rose, but only after seeing him resurrected with her own eyes. This is kind of a side issue, but why is it that if Mary or the disciples need to see the resurrected Jesus in order to believe (or in Thomas’s case, feel the wounds in his wrists) then they’re given the evidence they need, but if the rest of the worlds skeptics need the same evidence in order to believe, then they can all just go to hell? Anyways, back to the topic at hand.
Another problem I have with your explanation is that it seems to conflict with the intended meaning of the words “they” and “them” in Matthew 28:9-10, which says “8 And *_they_* left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to report it to His disciples. 9 And behold, Jesus met *_them_* and greeted *_them._* And *_they_* came up and took hold of His feet and worshiped Him.” You might disagree with me on this, but I think that authorial intent determines the meaning of a text. It certainly determines the *_intended_* meaning of a text, which is all that I'm concerned about as it pertains to contradictions. If we’re trying to figure out what the author of Matthew intended to convey by the words “they” and “them”, then we can’t look to the other gospels to answer that question, we have to look to the Gospel according to Matthew. The first verse of chapter 28 tells us exactly who those plural pronouns refer to. It says: “Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, *Mary* *Magdalene* *and* *the* *other* *Mary* came to look at the grave.” Now considering that verse, is it reasonable to think that the author of Matthew didn’t expect his readers to interpret the words “they” and “them” in verses in 8&9 as referring to both Mary Magdalene and the other Mary? Of course the author expected and intended for his readers to interpret it that way. Matthew only mentions two women going to the tomb. If you have two people and you take away one (in this case Magdalene) whoever is left can no longer be referred to with a plural pronoun. So why does Matthew use those plural pronouns if Mary Magdalene wasn’t part of the group that encountered the angel on their way back from the tomb? It’s true that according to other gospels there were other women there like Salome, and I’m not suggesting that the presence of other women at the tomb contradicts Matthews mention of only two. However, if we’re trying to determine what Matthew intends to convey to the reader by the words “they” and “them” then we can only look to Matthew to answer that specific question.
I realize you believe all the gospels were inspired by god, but if one were to go back in time and ask the human author of Matthew whether he intended for the words “they” and “them” to refer to the same women specified at the beginning of the chapter, what do you think he would say? It seems pretty clear to me that his answer would be ‘yes’, but I’d like to get your thoughts on that. Now lets say I grant that all the gospels are inspired by god. If God wanted Matthews readers to understand that Mary was not one of the women who saw Jesus on their way back from the tomb, why would God inspire Matthew to be written in such a way as to make the readers think the opposite? Why wouldn’t God just inspire a single verse in Matthew 28 to set the reader straight by clarifying that Mary departed from the other Mary before seeing Jesus? It seems like, if your explanation is correct, then Matthew isn’t just an incomplete segment of a larger story, it’s an extremely misleading account of what actually happened. I only say that because all of Matthew’s readers would come away from that gospel thinking that Magdalene was one of the women who Jesus appeared to on the way back from the tomb. Why wouldn’t God just provide a straightforward account of what happened instead of fragmenting the story into these various confusing puzzle pieces that many early Christians didn’t even have access to?
Hope I didn’t overload you with questions. Thanks again for the input on this interesting topic.

John did not contradict himself read both of these passages in CONTEXT
“So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing. And greater works than these will he show him, so that you may marvel. For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will. For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.”
    ‭‭John‬ ‭5:19-24‬ ‭
“And Jesus cried out and said, “Whoever believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me. And whoever sees me sees him who sent me. I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. Now this looks like a contradiction but keep reading. The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; THE WORD THAT I HAVE SPOKEN WILL JUDGE HIM ON THE LAST DAY. For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment-what to say and what to speak. And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has told me.””
    ‭‭John‬ ‭12:44-50‬ ‭
So the son did not come to judge the world but to save it through his teachings take a look at Mathew 28:18
“And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them inthe name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.””
    ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭28:18-20‬ ‭
So the world will be saved But the word that Jesus had spoken will judge the individual on the last day because when you’re dead you cease of being part of the world.

@Richard Fox of course there are a 101 contradictions if you read it with a highly skeptical mind. I can name differences that are even harder to reconcile then the ones you mentioned briefly and I have found there is always a reasonable explanation for everyone. Most importantly the death and ressurection of Christ is central to our faith and that is a verifiable event.

    • @wahlao81
      @wahlao81 5 лет назад

@Richard Fox these are eye witness accounts of the ressurected Christ. Yes I agree with you it is a matter of faith but a reasonable one. For one, if Christ didn't rise from the dead, the people at that time could have easily disproved it by producing the body. If it was a lie by his disciples, what did they stand to gain? All 11 of them under the pain of torture and death did not recant their testimony. The gospel writers included alot of information - names, places- so that the reader at that time and us now, can go about to verify their story and not simply take their word for it.

      @wahlao81 5 лет назад

@Richard Fox there are prominent atheist who disagree with the points you made. They've looked into Christianity deeply and they don't dispute these are reliable documents written by eye witnesses. It is an established fact that Jesus Christ really lived and was crucified. Yes the disciples could have made up the whole story but I put it to you that it is reasonable to believe that they were telling the truth, they had really seen Christ. And Paul, what did he have to gain from testifying that he met with the Risen Christ? Why would a former persecutor join the ranks of the persecuted? Im just trying to say this is not a blind faith built on hearsay and superstition but a historical event. I don't believe people back then were gullible or less skeptical, and I really don't think a lie can survive the threat of death and torture.

I disagree, the wealth of evidence shows that from the earliest of times, Christians have always believed in a ressurected Christ...have you ever considered treating both sides of the argument with the same amount of skepticism? If you dig deep enough into the theory of evolution... The evidence doesn't exactly leave you beyond reasonable doubt that all life had a naturalistic origin

    • @wahlao81
      @wahlao81 5 лет назад

@Richard Fox you literally dug deep lol, thats really cool by the way and I like that you really studied these stuff and didn't simply read them off the internet. I believe the Scripture is inerrant and the aim of the Genesis account isn't meant to explain science and evolution. Its primary concern is to explain, in a concise manner, where humans came from and where it all went wrong. The 7 days of creation doesn't mention the big bang etc, its meant to explain the concept of the Sabbath day, as I understand it. 2 Peter 3:8 "...a thousand years is like a day to God". God is outside the limitations of time, and so the word "day" could mean periods of creation. God uses words that we can relate to in describing creation. I majored in Life Sciences and I came to a different conclusion from you. This is the statement that evolution makes - "Evolution occurred through genetic mutation, the changes occurred and accumulated over millions of years". This statement itself is an admission of the mathematical impossibility for one life-form to undergo the dramatic genetic changes needed to become another (e.g fish out of water). There is no mechanism to drive wholesale genetic changes. And why millions of years? Evolution is only possible when you provide it an infinite amount of chances. The chance of a life-form to accumulate those genetic changes, successfully pass it on again and again until it becomes something else - is like drawing a single Ace of spades out of a deck of million cards. It is only possible for you to draw that ace if you are allowed to draw a million times. thats describing the problem in the simplest of terms. I really dont know enough about archaelogy to comment on it, but I have read that there is very little evidence of transitional life-forms? more importantly, science never answered the important questions of life, like what is the meaning of life? Personally for me I found these answers in Christ.
