      I think in "The Hill" Sean Connery gave the best performance of his entire career.
      Here he proved to the world, that he could could do far better than just playing James Bond, and that he was actually a great actor.
      His desperation at the end of the movie is really heart-breaking.

      I prefer hard edged Bonds like Connery and Dalton but I understand that people wanted campy romps in the 1970's. Moore was the ideal Bond for his era.

    I love Connery’s Bond (although he does look a bit bored in TB and YOLT) but you have to remember this is the actor who starred in DAF. If anything that film is a bigger, far more camp departure from what came before it with Bond. I’d also say NSNA is a film which lacks substance personally.

      Connery said that his era got too "spacey". The spectacle started becoming more important than anything else.

    • @jhjhjhjhjhjhify
      @jhjhjhjhjhjhify 3 месяца назад +1

      @@michaeljames4509 Yep. It's actually by design too. Charles Grey as Blofeld, Wint and Kidd, the weirdly bawdy comedy (Blofeld literally dresses in drag at one point). Probably the campiest Bond film by quite a bit actually.
      MR is a bit stupid at points (and yes, it's very much a film about spectacle), but it generally plays everything straight.

    Roger Moore was a far better (the best) Bond. Also, Moore never broke character. He never needed to because he WAS like that!
    The whole concept of Bond is tongue in cheek, from the larger than life villains, to the misogyny and double entendres. To play it with the degree of ‘taking yourself seriousnessly’ that he’s talking about is laughable.
    To be honest, Connery comes across as churlish and bitter about it here.

    • @ricardocantoral7672
      @ricardocantoral7672 4 месяца назад +6

      Churlish and bitter? I don't see that at all. He was just pointing out what other fans and critics felt, the Bond series just became too absurd. For me, the best Bond movie is From Russia With Love and the best Bond is Connery. I enjoy Roger Moore, and I do think The Spy Who Loved Me was terrific, but I think he had the charm but lacked the edge needed for Bond. I also loved Timothy Dalton as well but he never got the scripts he deserved.
