    I think the most pivotal player (and MOTM deservingly) was Martin Odegaard. Good lord I've never seen an 8 press the way he does in modern times, and everytime he has the ball, he has the immediate threat of creating important chances. Truly the scariest player for Arsenal, and extremely disciplined defensively as well. I think people rate Rice, Saka and the defence very highly, but I think Odegaard is truly one of the best players on the team.

    Can we finally agree on what a magnificent player Kane is? Goal threat striker, playmaker and passer, tireless worker. Not flashy or flamboyant trickster, but hugely efficient. No clickbait dribbles, but a deadly accurate shot and smart sidesteps to get that shot away in a tight spot. Kane, even now, is underrated.

  • @timothyinduli968
    @timothyinduli968 2 месяца назад +27

    The weak link(no disrespect intended) was Kiwior(VERY true that having identified his pace as his weakness, Bayern played to it with Sane at every available opportunity). This made Kiwior employ a tight play which was largely ineffective(n maybe Kiwior's zonal would have been more ideal, BUT the fear of Sane's trickery when running at him contributed to the former method being employed). Solution, believe IF Timber can get the nod from the medical team, should start(his paces n guile would be to our advantage), n Bayern would be forced to rethink Gnabry n Sane in the same game as a press resistant Timber would be carrying the ball, inverting n automatically creating space for our wide player left, not to mention the progressive passes he could pick. The flip side for Timber is, this could intefere with his recovery(esp. after all the hard work put in, n risk injury setback). Alternatively, Tomi should start(n that way negate Sane) as he would not only be a better option for Sane's pace n trickery, BUT would also be very handy in exploiting the space in front of him on the left n be able to not only progress the ball(his carrying n passing is better than Kiwior's). This also would force Bayern to rethink(Sane force to mark the wide left channel), n open the middle for Timber(inverted) or Jorgi, Rice, n Martin. Believe when Arteta's team reviews they will exploit Bayern considering that Gnarby seemed to tweek his hamstring(or muscle in his thigh), Alphonso Davies will be ineligible to play the return via suspension. Also, Jesus(for Martinelli, who IF the need arises due to Jesus' fitness n to manage his pre existing condition) should be availed from the get go as his confident runs will further destabilise Bayern. In general ALL the players should be reminded to stick to the game plan, rushing play(when chasing a goal) at times can be detrimental n the moments MUST be well thought out to maximise the percieved advantage. All in all, the game is perfectly poised, n there is no better ways to earn the stripes than by beating Bayern at home. Finally, football(esp. for the knock out phase) must have a winner n a loser(plus the learning that experience provides), and as long as the lads give it their best THEN we should be content and support them. IMHO Arteta was actually winning the tactical battle until Arsenal lost control of the game for a while when Gabriel panicked before Bayern's first goal. If I were Gabriel, as soon as I see Raya in a positional mix up close to me, I would've known the unknown variable just popped up out of nowhere and suddenly every options has higher risks. At the highest level, it makes zero sense to gamble with higher risks so I would take the option with the least risk which is make the ball out of play by booting it to the side.

    It's also important to recognise how important Sane is to the Bayern team. Leroy Sane vs Kiwior is a 1v1 which Sane is going to win almost every single time, and as soon as Zinchenko came on, Sane's threat was neutralised more to the point they had to bring Coman on. The deep setup from Bayern allowed no space for Arsenal's dangerous wingers to run in from behind or combine through the middle. This is is how you play a team that is superior with the ball. Martinelli, Odegaard and Rice were not as effective as they usually are. Tuchel learned well from Porto. Otherwise the game would have gone the same way as the Brighton match last weekend.
    This tie went from 60/40 in Arsenal's favour to 50/50. For the return match I expect a similar, counter-oriented setup from Bayern, maybe with a slightly more aggressive approach in midfield using Pavlovic instead of Laimer and therefore adding an extra vertical passing threat in midfield. Guerrero will replace Davies. Coman or Tel will take over Gnabry's role as speedy winger who unfortunately is out with a hamstring injury.

    Really have to disagree about Bayern's defense and Dier's performance. Even though he started the game badly and caused the first goal, he picked up the pace and stayed decent defensively for the rest of the game. His long passes tho were very effective in breaking Arsenal's structure, which led to thigh press on him. compared to that, de Licht wasn't that dangerous in the back, choosing safe short passes and a more predictable build-up, which Arsenal preferred, resulting in less press on him. All in all, decent game for Dier, and underrated performance overall imo.

    Rayas mistake brought bayern into the game, had they continued to press, they would have gone 2-0 with the momentum, and Davies seeing 7 & 8’s then after scoring they had three men there to help him.. Had Arsenal 2nd goal come first, Bayern would have collapsed, to try stop the score line going worse the coach would be forced to sub Davies to even out the 1 on 1’s without the fear a red card. But Arsenal would have had still room to switch, leaving Bayern chasing a goal to try salvage a return leg something leaving them vulnerable at the back, as they would try more risked passes to try break arsenal. Raya was jittery, and that mistake kinda highlighted that, the ball was well in control and I was shocked to see him there, the defense lost its confidence from there, which was what permitted Sanes run mentally, he knew there where shook/rattled as a unit. They need to punch back, as those two goals we gifted Bayern the game. That was a 3-0 stroll. European nights needs a titanium mind
