  • This is how to make cold porcelain clay (Stove Version)
    Cold porcelain is an inexpensive, non-toxic, easy-to-work-with material. It is an air dry clay it does not require heat in order for it to cure, instead hardening by exposure to fresh air. Once dry the thick pieces are hard like rock and the thin pieces are flexible.
    my Ingredients:
    ♥pure cornstarch
    ♥white glue
    ♥white vinegar
    ♥cooking oil
    ♥moisturizing lotion (Nivea cream)
    I'm claying since 2015 and I really want to help others.. I have enough experience and practicing using cold porcelain than polymer clay. As I have experienced, for me Cold Porcelain is better . no hate :D I just love working with polymer clay because its waterproof and just oven it to harden.. but I'm inlove with the durability of cold porcelain. its smell ,texture, consistency. everything!! Except that its not water proof (but can be glazed with anything) and it shrinks for about 15-20%

    This claybum's recipe with her CLEAR INSTRUCTION is the best by far.

    And it takes also a few practice though.

    I really want to give this a try.
    Questions: does the figurines shrink after dry?
    You said colored clay is prone to mold, so after my amaaaazing creations are done and dry, would they still get mold??
    Do I need armature for chibi bodies?
    My fear is that after I do the body and then put the head this one will be too heavy and will sunk into the shoulders, so, I make the body and let it dry and the finish the head?

    • @ClayBum
      @ClayBum  3 года назад +2

      The figures doesn’t shrink after it dries, but it shrinks while drying.
      Dried piece- colored or not, can still have molds, any brand of clay are if you put them in humid places.
      I’m saying colored clay is prone to molds (wet) compare if you haven’t color the clay yet. So it’s advisable when you color the clay you should use it within a week or 2.
      You only need armature or wire on the legs if you’re making figurine. If keychain only it’s still advisable to put wire in the body for strength.
      Yes that’s right. Dry the body first before adding the head.
      I always dry body parts first before I add more clay or details.

      The clay is extremely hard when dry. It is very durable, will not shatter & can be drilled, sanded and painted once dry. You can make charms and sell them. The only thing about cold porcelain is it is not waterproof. It will dissolved if put in water. You have to seal it with a waterproof coating such as acrylic varnish.

    Hola!! En vez de aceite de cocina o de bebe, podria utilizar vaselina liquida pura o utilizar glicerina... Es que tengo de las dos en casa... Para aprovechar, pero necesito saber si puedo utilizarlas y cual seria mejor en caso de poder usarlas... La vaselina liquida o la glicerina liquida.
    Y otra pregunta se guarda en el plastico film con crema Nivea y luego en un bol de plástico, pero... Se tiene que guardar el en frigorífico o se puede dejar fuera y cuanto tiempo dura??
    Muchas gracias!!!

      Gracias por ver. Sí, creo que puedes usar vaselina o glicerina. La vaselina es mucho mejor. Puede guardarlo en el refrigerador durante 6 a 12 horas después de cocinarlo y luego puede guardarlo a temperatura ambiente. En realidad no es necesario guardarlo en el frigorífico. Puedes dejarlo afuera durante un par de horas antes de usarlo.

      @@ClayBum hola!! Muchísimas gracias por contestar!! Pensaba que al ser de hace tanto el tutorial, ya no ibas a contestar... Así que muchas gracias!!
      Yo compré en la farmacia vaselina líquida, para una receta de porcelana fría que vi, pero quería probar la tuya y pensé que le podia ir mejor que el aceite de cocina. Creo que es la misma vaselina que llevan las cremas pero en líquido, es vaselina pura, yo la noto como aceitosa. Y también tengo glicerina líquida, x eso te pregunté cuál podía irle mejor.
      Al final pensando que no me ibas a contestar hice tu receta con aceite de cocina, aceite de girasol, la hice hace dos días y aun no la he probado, ya te diré cómo la veo... Otra cosa que no pregunté....El Vinagre tiene que ser de algo específico, de manzana, de vino,el vinagre blanco uqe se usa para las limpiezas y no es apto para uso alimenticio... No se que vinagre será mejor.... Yo le puse el que tenía que era vinagre de manzana, pero tú cual recomiendas???
      Y al ver los comentarios no la metí al frigorífico, la puse en un film untado en crema Nivea y en una bolsa y la dejé fuera y así la tengo a temperatura ambiente, lo que no se es si cuando haga mucho calor es mejor meterla en el frigorífico o no pasa nada por seguir teniendola fuera del frigorífico????

      Hello. It dries like that because the outer layer is drying fast than the inside also you are drying it wrong. It's air dry. You just leave it after molding, tho it's better to dry it on stack tissue so that the bottom will dry as well. It will be as hard as polymer clay hmmm I think its a bit harder than polymer. The drying process will take 1-3 days depending on the thickness of the mold :)

    beautiful porcelain, but does not shrink or crack ?!

    • @ClayBum
      @ClayBum  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks! The cracks depends on how you mold and sculpt it but it almost doesn't. Yes! It shrinks for about 15-20% that's one of the cons of using it. Some might like it for miniature purposes. I'm going to make a video for more details about CP.

    • @aleahlrb
      @aleahlrb 5 лет назад +5

      If you make it right, it won't crack at all. Some reasons why it would crack:
      - you added water to the initial mixture
      - it was undercooked and you added too much cornstarch to combat the stickiness during kneading
      - the clay around your armature is too thin
      These are just some reasons that I found out through past tries.

    Hello, I have a small problem with the cooked clay. When I make a piece that's thick enough, say a cube with 0.5cm-1cm thickness, the top and/or bottom end that's supposed to be flat would look sunken when dried. Do you know what's causing this? I have a theory that it's because the piece is drying too fast but I don't know if this is true. Thanks in advance!

    • @ClayBum
      @ClayBum  11 месяцев назад

      It is true. The outer layer is drying so fast than the outside that's why it will sunken/deformed. It is also because the clay is still so soft to dry, sometimes it gets too saggy. You should condition your clay more. I condition mine in front of electric fan before sculpting, if it is still too soft. You should also dry it on silk screen. If you don't have in the moment you can dry it on stacked tissues. So that the bottom part will dry as well. Flip it every hour if you don't want to use tissues.

    • @vina6665
      @vina6665 10 месяцев назад

      @@ClayBum okay so I did a test where I made 2 spherical pieces and I would flip one clay every 30mins or so while the other I didn't flip at all. I made the pieces the size of cranberries so they can hold their shape as they don't weight that much and dried them on a silk screen.
      The one I flipped would cave in at every side that at some point was the bottom side, while the one I didn't flip only the bottom side caved in, the top stays spherical.
      So basically it caved in but upward because only the bottom side/the sides that was the bottom at some point in time has this problem 😭

    • @ClayBum
      @ClayBum  10 месяцев назад

      @@vina6665 if you are going to make spheres you should use stacked tissues. I actually still use tissues at top of silk screen even I dry flat shapes.
      Sphere shapes are really hard to maintain perfectly shaped when using diy clay. What I do is I use armature like a sphere styrofoam then dry it on stacked tissues (without textures/embosses) if you cant find tissues without design, it will still do. Just smooth the clay after it dries.

      Hi. If it the whole mold is cracks then it is overcooked but if it where only where you connect the parts it means you're not blending it. you should blend the parts so it won't cracks. you should also knead it and make a ball before you mold it to prevent cracks.
      Acrylic paints will really change the consistency of the clay due to it's ingredients. the water is making it stickier/softer.

    • @ClayBum
      @ClayBum  3 года назад

      Hello. No it's not normal. If the clay is still too soft and sticky it means it's undercooked. You need to cook it more but do not over cooked it as it has more downsides if overcooked. It's really trial and error.
      If it's not too soft but still sticky means you've used a cream/lotion that contains a lot of water.

    • @ClayBum
      @ClayBum  4 года назад

      Hello there. It shouldn't have cracks. First, is to be sure if you're using 100% cornstarch it's important, the elmers glue should be white glue. If you're using the right ingredients but you can't still achieve the right consistency then you're cooking it wrong. Don't overcooked the clay. It's a trial and error

Cos I've only got cheap £1 paints ! LOL need to try and make the clay again with non toxic glue
      I've tested small items no cracks but dries yellow it cracks when I try and twist the clay together it cracks though and the clay keeps coming up with little black spots which is very annoying need to REST now I will try again with normal pva glue sometime in the furture xx

      Aww, thank you. Wah 😢 I'm sorry for that, tho I only tried 2 brands. Shelwood (the best one) and Elmers glue. There's another reason why it create cracks and breaks when dried, if it's overcooked. Don't overcooked it on your first try. Cook it on the lowest heat possible. If that's not the problem, then the glue it is. It's really trial and error. I hope you can make it the next time

      Thank you for watching! I don't recommend uncooked clay, I tried it long time ago and it's hard to calculate the right amount of ingredients. Particles of starch are sticky to hands. Not as durable as the cooked version. It's more prone to molds! even it's already dried and it's sagging.
      The pros of it is that it doesn't shrink much like the cooked, easy to color and it doesn't dried translucent.

    • @ClayBum
      @ClayBum  4 года назад +1

      You can store it for months even a year I think. As long as it's stored well and you haven't put colors yet. If you put colors to it, you should use it within a week or so. but uncolored clay will last a really long time, use clinging wrap and air tight sealed plastic or container
