Viktus did an interview with Dan Wheeler about 3 weeks ago, telling his story, walking him around Brighton and pointing out where they filmed various Ren videos and where they "borrowed" all the foliage to make the indoor jungle in Animal Flow. This track was previewed at the end of the interview
As to all his references, I'm pretty sure Ren's brain is actually made of a sponge-like material that has absorbed everything he has ever read or seen. Ren said that he started making DnB beats when he was 12 years old, burn them to CD and sell them on the street so he's been at this for over 20 years.

As an EDM fan I'm sure you're aware of the long history of MCs spitting over dance beats in the UK & other parts of Europe. UK grime evolved from Garage TOWARDS something closer to US hip hop, not from hip hop. As an old raver from the 90s, dance music is inextricably linked to MCs getting the party going, & this tune takes me back in the very best way.

I don't really rock with EDM normally. I like it to an extend, i like the rhythms, some of the melodies, some of it is pretty bouncy but i generally find it a bit boring and uninteresting. I really like it like this, though! Not even sure what to call it. EDM flex rap?

Not a radio song LOL I adore Ren I just wish he used the F word less. In Animal Farm I don't think I heard the F word once. It was 'cleaner'. To this old grannies ears it was fine.
I'm a granny too. The explicit language is fine with me but I understand how it could bother some people. I think rap & hip hop tend to have more swear words. Ren has said that his album after Sick Boi will be more singing vs rap, so I bet there will be less swearing in that.

The genre is Bass House. One of my favorite EDM genres. Mostly you hear it with soulful singing and vocal chops but you can rap over it as well.
