U simply LOVE this Headphone...(: Thats wonderful and i understand what U mean *** I already own a 1000v2 and will give the 1000SE definitely a Try. Wonderful Channel here... Thanks my Friend😀
I didn't want to spend 25 minutes, I didn't think I cared that much, but your comparisons to exactly what I wanted them compared to had me captivated. I've got HE1000V2Stealth + HE1000SE on the way. Can't wait to try both. Hope I don't miss my Susvara too much.
Thank you for such an informative review and comparsion for 2 of my favorite cans!! I will be ordering the HE1000se since I have a Mojo2 and I hear that it sounds VERY good on that.. Next step will be Sus and BIG tube amp. Great stuff sir!!!
You're right about HEKse and iFi Pro iCan Signature. Several weeks ago I bought a Violectric HPA V550 Pro and yes, I felt both HEKse and Susvara sounded better on V550 than iCan. This doesn't necessarily mean iCan isn't a remarkable amp in terms of power, noise floor, sound correction via xBass and 3D, class A/B solid state and tube hybrid design, but Violectric is a little bit more refined. Thank you for review!
Nice pickup on the Vio! I'd like to get a 550 in for review. The iCAN is definitely an 'up-front' amp with lots of attack but a bit overdamped on the decay to my ear so far. HEKse definitely reacts to that more acutely than Susvara (or Utopia). Don't know why. Just one of those things.
550 is probably an overkill unless your going to upgrade to the susvara. The 340 probably has more than enough grunt and is much cheaper. I’d love a review on the DHA 380/590 .
@@wavetheorysound +1 for the V550, I am thinking of pairing it with the HekSE or the ZMF Caldera, the Susvara should also sound very good with the V550, but I think for the Sus to sound its best it needs a Ferrum OOR / Holo Bliss / Niimbus 5 other than a speaker amps like AHB2 / Bakoon etc.
I have the HE1000 V2 (OG), thinking of upgrading. Now Hifiman store is running a promotion HE1000 V2 Stealth USD1399, HE1000 SE USD1999, I would assume the jump to HE1000 SE makes more sense now
Excellent comparison. Thank you. I currently have the Arya Stealth. I plan to upgrade to the HE1000SE. With an eventual upgrade path to the Susvara. Really excited to hear the improvement over the AryaSE. I invested in a Burson Conductor GT. Sounds incredible on all my headphones. Once I get that paid for I will continue the upgrading. Definitely an expensive but highly enjoyable hobby.
@provisionalhypothesis I'm happy to report that I did indeed upgrade to the HE1000SE. Man I love Hifiman and the upgrades they allow for loyal customers. Susvara is next on my list. A year after owning the Arya SE I can honestly say I miss nothing about the AryaSE. The difference is mind boggling! I continue to smile from ear to ear with the HE1000SE! The sometimes sibilant treble of the AryaSE is 90% gone and the detail.. Oh Em Gee! I have never heard this much detail from my music. The air and space around everything is just so big! The bass definition is just on another level. I'm still breaking them in. I'm approaching 100 hrs but I know Hifiman says 150 hrs to truly get them to their peak performance. I will say that I'm driving them with an S tier class amp. Burson Conductor GT. Damn this amp makes every headphone I have sing to another level. I've been enjoying a new level of performance from my Sennheisers.. I have a lot of them.. HD598CS, HD800S, HD6XX, HD660S, HD560S and HD660S2. That's the order I purchased them. Just so much more detail and performance when they are paired with an S tier amp! On another note I can say without a doubt that the new HD660S2 is the best of the 6 series that I own. They got it right. It's truly a proper successor and real upgrade to the legendary HD650/6XX. More detail, depth, decay and lifelike natural sound. Don't see myself listening to the older models going forward. Sorry took a turn there. I cannot recommend the HE1000SE enough. It's just a beautifully musical headphone that is goose-bump inducing. It only continues my curiosity into the rabbit hole of this hobby. I know they say the difference to Susvara is small but there is still a real difference and increase in performance achievable with the Burson Conductor GT. And so the chase continues.. Now how many more payments are left on my HE1000SE? LOL
Awesome video man. My upgrade from the HE1000SE to the Susvara arrives today. So pumped. Dr B should know that you and your reviews were one of the main reasons that I bought it. Thanks Wave Theory!
Please let us know what you think! I'm curious to find out what your impressions are, especially if you are used to the HEKse's grandiose presentation. Do you have a decent enough amp for the Sus?
Hi friends. I have an Amp that some reviewers are saying does not bring out the true potential of the Susvara (The Topping A90) + D90 stack. For me I am able to get more than enough volume on high gain with the volume at about 75%. It sounds quite different from the HE1000SE to my ears that know it extremely well. I found that it specifically brings some subtleties in the mid range forward. It is amazing. I swear that I can hear something to do with the textures in the bass on instruments a lot clearer and most importantly, I have a drum set, trumpet, violin, piano, guitar at home right here with me and it is shockingly "real"-sounding. The Tom's and drums sound like real skins on my real drums.
The bass impact is surprisingly good. Surprisingly because some reviewers make it sounds so super light. It's absolutely perfect. Clear super fast textured bass. Even EDM songs like all of Cosmic Gate sounds great!
The instruments sound clearly separated but not overkill. I find the "t"'s and sounds of "b"'s are noticeably clearer than the HE1000SE which is exactly what I was wanting. The depth of the stage sounds like nothing I have ever heard before. I also have the Utopia 2022 but only have about 3 months of experience with it. That is the circular imaging King for sure in my opinion. It also presents mids almost too forward which totally makes some songs sound wrong but so cool imo just for the experience. Whereas the Susvara presents absolutely everything perfectly
Finally got one of these, it’s taken a few days for me to get used to the different sound signature from my Arya stealths but loving it more and more. One thing I’ve found is it doesn’t like to much gain. On my Violectric the Arya Stealth and HD600’s Sound best on +6 gain and are loud enough at about 9-10 o’clock on the volume knob, they seem to like the extra voltage. The HEKSe sounds harsh on +6, even on 0 gain, but on -6 and around 11-12 on the volume dial they are beautiful. No harshness and the bass and treble just smooth right out. So good for jazz etc
tt and another amp might get close to it, but nothing better than default dac+amp tune, its very rare that separate dac+amp can work 100% well wo any sacrifice, although you might not notice
Thank you so much for answering my (and perhaps others', too) question about whether you'd miss either of the headphones. Much appreciated 😃 Can I please ask you one more - is the Susvara a good companion to the Utopia or are they too similar (not in terms of presentation of sound as they appear to be clearly different, but in terms of both striving for reference-like tuning)?
I've seen a bunch of your hifiman and LCD vids. We have somewhat similar music tastes for metal. Which planar from hifi man and audeze in that $1000 to $2,000 range you think works best for that. ?
Huhu! I see an Audivina back there! Looking forward to your review on that, as I heard it at the last can jam and have mixed feelings about it, I wish I could try it again.
Watching you juggle all of these multi-thousand dollar headphones in your hands like 0_0 The HEKse is def the one I'd go towards because I'm addicted to atmosphere and stage height. I like my headphones to sound ethereal. The Arya Stealth wasn't that for me, it sounds boomy and too forceful in the lower mids and mid bass bands. Going to try an Ananda Stealth and see if that's a bit more to my preference. Some video games are superb for testing stage and one like Manifold Garden would probably sound absolutely magical with the HEKse.
What is "sound stage" as a physical phenomenon and how do this headphones create an huge sound stage? Also how can an amplifier create sound stage? My knowledge is that sound stage is created from micro delays in the signal. The amplifier and the headphones don't really have any way to introduce delays in the signal so I am puzzled.
Soundstaging has nothing to do with any type of "delay". Have you ever heard a HP or amp that allowed you to hear the whole recording space in which the music was recorded? Have you ever heard a HP have an ultra "wide", "transparent", and "speaker-like" type of SQ - one where even though you know you have a HP on your head, what you're actually hearing is a much much larger listening space? Those are all related to "soundstage". If you've never heard any of that you probably may want to audition high end HPs in person. Before I bought the Ananda and then the Arya v2 I'd never had that experience to be able to tell you about it.....
Hello. I fully agree with your conclusions. The only thing you forgot to clarify is that the HE1000SE is cable demanding. These headphones can be overly bright with silver-plated or silver-plated wires. The best option for them is high quality homemade copper cables. I also settled on HE1000SE and Susvara for different musical genres. And after the acquisition of the Trafomatic Head 2 amplifier - Susvara became as large-scale and grandiose-sounding as HE1KSE. For me, the long and expensive headphone amp selection game is over..
You're lucky I like you, otherwise I'd find a way to source the HE1000 and HE1000V2 to send to you for the HE1000V2SE review. Just thinking of the chaos that could cause trying to keep the names straight on camera is enough to put a grin on someone's face. 😁
LOL. With just 2 of them in house they're getting pseudonyms as it is. If you send 2 more they're just gonna be John, Paul, George & Ringo. Key in the description.
My Head is aching thinking about which one to get. Arya organic or h1000se, I could afford both of them, but the Step up in Price is significant and a lot of reviews say, that they have more in common than differ. 7 times price difference with Ananda Nano, and almost same FR curve. Is it worth it?

An FR curve tells you nothing aside from whether something is seriously wrong.
