- Mabel King was an actress and singer who entertained audiences for decades with her vocals and performances. This video chronicles her life and career, from her birth in Charleston, SC to her rise to stardom on Broadway, television and film.
Mable King was one of the greatest Gospel Singer EVER!! Rest Up Queen👑
What's Happening was my favorite show. When Mable King left it wasn't the same.
She scared me as a kid when she played that witch in the movie The Wiz. I never knew that was her who played that role. RIP
Thank God we don't know her from that part. Even though she played marvelous.
Yea she went crazy in the wiz
I remember when CBS evening news with Dan Rather did a report on Mable King who was sick and all alone in her nursing home she was so unrecognizable she lost a lot of weight and she only have one arm left and both legs amputated
You don't need no stankin arms 💪 and legs 🦵! 😶
😢😢😢
Is there a link to that story?
@@Mjohnson3030 I will try to look for link for you I will let you know as soon as possible when I find it online again
That is so sad. Life can be wrought with bends and turns.
She was a great actress May she Rest In Peace.
She was beautiful and wonderful actress. As a person who struggles with my weight, myself, she did not look healthy by any means while on what's happening. I glad she was able to lose the the weight later on in life. I always thought she had a nice singing voice. God Bless - Jason.
Mabel King❤️🤎. Excellent actress!
I read somewhere that the only person who came to visit her @ that point was Haywood Nelson aka Dwayne. 😥😥😢😢😭😭
that's Hollywood!
A fine black actress who got screwed by life's unfortunate circumstances. Her illness really limited her from great roles she could have had after The Wiz. She was reduced to notably guest and small roles. Having diabetes and a stroke, both which caused her limbs to be cut off, how horrible.
She reminds me so much of my late grandmother. RIP ❤
She was so so beautiful ❤️ I loved the way she presented herself
Loved her on What's Happening. It was an otherwise silly comedy, but her character and acting were first class. If I were the producer, I would have bent over backwards to keep her on the show.
She was so beautiful and classy on “What’s Happening.” A wonderful actress. So pitiful how the dreadful illness diabetes ravaged her body, and eventually took her life.
She was a beautiful Queen, a lot of fun times down in the valley b4 diabetes took its toll.
I know you singing the blues and it’s a party every nite on heavens way!
i was just watching her on an old show called amazing stories. it came out in the 80's but i still love the episode, babysitter.
RIP BEAUTIFUL LADY ❤😢😢😢😢
Its so sad heartbreaking and unimagable on what Ms. King went through. She's still at eternal peace now in HEAVEN
Rest in peace ❤❤❤❤❤ u was such an inspiration
Thank you for this commentary. Wonder what ever happened to old school classic black actors.
She was a great actress and pretty
She was talented, a trailblazer and was an attractive woman with beautiful brown skin.
RIP🙏🙏🙏
You do such a good job with your videos. Continue doing what you do!
Thank you so much!
Take care of your health while you’re young

Rip❤
I really liked her so much ! She was a talented and amazing presence! ❤
This is so sad .
she was all out moms who watch that show back then... RIP QUEEN
She shouldn't just be known for black entertainment but all entertainment. I'm a 50 year old white man and I loved watching her on the Jerk and on What's Happening . true talent is colorblind.
RIP Mandy
let me start by saying she couldn't get enough work for as supremely talented as she was real talk look at the roster of the wiz and she demolished them by far not even close
Good job
Ms. King was great on " What's Happening," and it was not the same when she left.
Micheal Jackson paid for all her funeral expenses. Rest In Peace Both of them!
Wonderful! I didn’t know about this line of this story ..!!
He also paid for David Ruffin’s funeral.
Great great actress funny as can be
I loved her in the wiz, the jerk and what’s happening
I hated the Wiz when I was a kid, it scared me. I totally loved her in the Jerk and What's Happening. I can relate a little bit as I'm diabetic but lost quite a bit of weight and I'm now a healthy size but still have diabetes.

She was beautiful
PAST AWAY at only 66
Passed.
She had a pretty face.
the moral of this story: obesity kills.
It’s a disease too many battle
Been there , started working out regularly since 1998 & never looked back!!!!!
Wow she and she passed a month apart. 😢❤
I remember when she needed a wheelchair. I was thinking, she could have easily bought a wheelchair with the What's Happening money she earned!
I loved her in What's Happening but hated her In the Wiz. She scared the shhh out of me as a kid. I'm probably the only black person in America that hates that movie. Lol
I never liked it either 😢
I didn’t like it either!!! Everyone is shocked when I tell them that.
Only watched because of Michael Jackson
No youre not. I hated the wiz movie too. But I so want to so see the broadway verison
*Besides the Lil Kim colors I really didn’t have no other interest in the movie.* 🤷🏾♂️

No bad news is good news even if iT noT so_
I think we all saw those ailments coming. That's why I'm typing this comment in the gym. Lay off the sugar folks.
Congratulations on your health consciousness. Please understand that life is very tentative and we can be here one moment and gone the next regardless of our health regimen.
Amen!
@jenisemcintyre3839 you are so right about that
Thanks for the reminder. I no longer buy sugar, but it is in a lot of products that I like. I limit soda, ice cream and cookies Monday through Friday, then I have several treats in Saturday and Sunday. Being pre diabetic, I need to be careful.
@@asafaust8869 I am glad that you are trying to monitor your sugar intake. Dr. Joe TV has videos that can help you NOT become diabetic. God bless!
