I’m constantly loving the little details you mention and do in your explanations. From your smithing to your camera work there’s a constant “little something” you mention that makes the perspective become so much clearer for your channel. Thank you.

I LOVE "lived in" style blacksmiths shops where, as a guest, it is impossible to see everything in 10 or 15 DAYS!! I love just sitting and looking around the space trying to take everything in. It reminds me of my Dad's old workshop with tools hidden everywhere. That's how I want my workshops to be...... one day lol

Love the entire setup. Looks about perfect to me. The shop tour really gave me a sense of all the time, effort and love you have invested in your craft. If I had it to do over again, I would go in a very similar direction myself. As it is, I invested in woodworking. I started my apprenticeship in my teens, and have done little else in my life besides carpentry, though I have learned the basics of arc welding and the normal lessons most men of limited means must learn. A few years ago I was forced to give up my career do to medical issues, but I still wanted to learn what I can of your trade. I am like a young apprentice all over again when I watch your videos, (at 63) and I am slowly acquiring the basics needed for a minimalist shop, so thanks again for the very helpful tour. Many of my questions were answered.

I love the shop tour John it reminds me of a neighbor I had growing up. He wasn't a blacksmith he was more of a welder/fabricator. He worked out of a home built shop out in the woods of north Arkansas. In his later years he built and moved large Christmas lighting displays. One of which he ended moving and setting up at Disney world. It was on display for several years. His name was John too!

You'll never be bored! Lots of interesting projects to get to, and enjoying the journey in the meantime. Thanks for the shop tour. I especially appreciated that you panned the camera slowly so the viewer gets more than a blur. And thanks for sharing your expertise.
We now have a metal working/forging class in our high school. The kids are loving it. We've even had Damascus blades made with mild steel laminated with band saw blades. Some of these kids, I'm sure, have been watching your demonstrations. So your efforts are being passed along and understood by the younger generation. Thanks for the quality you put into your work and into your videos. Ronn

Thanks for the trip around the workspace.
I can tell you from experience, you are going to love the ribbon burner forge.
I did one in a gas grill tank back in the spring.
    Did a 6" burner, 86cfm blower, and a 1/8" nozzle.
Had to put a gate valve in the air piping. It doesn't need anywhere near the air the blower puts out.
Ha e a fine adjustment needle valve on the gas line.
It will hit welding heat easy at 2 PSI has pressure, and the gate valve open 2- 3/4 turns open.
It uses way less gas than my double Venturi forge did. And at 2 turns on the valve and 1.5 PSI has it heats up enough to get 2" hammer blanks to a good forging heat.
Looking forward to our hook of the week video.

The camera in your hand has good quality , vary nice and clear . The one stationary on the press is terrible . Low resolution , dim and blurry . Shop looks great . Lots of improvements done and I see no more dirt floors . You paved the rest . Love your channel

    • @BlackBearForge
      @BlackBearForge  5 лет назад

The dirt floor is still there where it has been for a year for so. Whiuch ios the area between the anvil, forge, power hammer and vise. The camera on the press is a small action camera which looses some quality as it is zoomed in digitally, but leaving it full wide angle, while sharper, made me look like I was in another county.

Then my leg vise is behind me. And my large box of tools and small steel scraps Very close to your shop but mines outside. No power hammers or presses though :/ I’m building a hydraulic press to help and buying a swage block off a family friend. It’s the only one I’ve seen ever in person. Hey John, I'm not sure where you're getting your coal usually. BUT, I was getting mine in Hesperus just west of Durango, by the truck load at around $0.08 a pound for good, clean stoker coal. It would be a little bit of a drive for you, but it's there and abundant. Food for thought.

I have heard of that mine. But when I can do 2 or 3 times as much work in a day by using propane its still more profitable. Not to mention no time lost in having it on site since the propane is delivered at a cheaper rate than if I took smaller bottles to town for filling

@@BlackBearForge absolutely agree with you, just referring a source I know of. I love working on a coal forge, but it just isn't feasible the way I'm set up right now. My propane forge does it all on demand.
