Hi Ya, I don't think it would have the torque to turn the disks of a wimshurst machine, it barely runs itself. It was designed for low temperatures - the foam displacer and thin polycarb cylinder would melt/soften at anything over 60C.

Denis Cook well I have been trying all afternoon to get my wimshurst sparking, no luck but the brushes have some purple ozone effects. I used 16 sectors on the cd, so that may be the reason. I'm using 0.4 gauge wire which may be to thick for a brush.

Spangley Rainbows 16 sectors is prob' too many - it's definitely creating charge as your getting corona discharge from the brushes. Spin it up in a completely dark room and look for corona discharges from any of the conductors - these are losses and need to be minimised.
Your comment re-windpowered Wimshurst, and my first reaction to using my Stirling engine got me thinking, playing, freckling, and up all night - it worked - just - see my latest vid'.

Denis Cook Thanks for your advice, i will reduce the sectors. By the way the sterling running your wimshurst looks amazing, nice idea using the magnets. Think it may be the first RUclips documented combination of two great machines!
