I was born in Portsmouth, but lived in Kittery, Maine. At age 11 and 12 my girlfriends and I would go on the bus over to Newberry's Department store and to the movies on a Saturday afternoon. At that time society was much safer than now! Many, Many years later I got to go back and tour Strawberry Banke and to go on the Navy Yard where my father, grandfather, Uncle, and other extended family members worked. While a lot had changed, downtown hadn't changed that much and the few changes were restoration of buildings for the better. I miss it except for December to April!
