@@AlexeBriand2002 Disagree. The ballads on Like A Prayer are categorically terrible. This is peak 80s dance pop. Her upbeat stuff is her best stuff and her debut has her best upbeat songs. Music isn’t automatically bad because it sounds like its time
@@FoxyChariot I agree..her earlier stuff was great ...I think because of experimenting with music helped...it sounds raw and I feel her music sounds great ..her music builds up in later years .but I do appreciate her earlier music ..xxx
I used to hang with friends at Danceteria, Palladium, and a few other discos in those days. I saw Madonna and Jellybean in those days and thought they were fun, but this was before they were popular. No one took them seriously because she was singing Black people's music. It wasn't like White people didn't dance in those days, but this was around the time when radio stations were intentionally trying to kill Disco. Jellybean, Madonna, and some other girls he was working with were playing Sidewalk Talk a lot at first. I didn't like that song as much. On the radio, they played Holiday a lot. I never made the connection to who it was I was listening to on the radio to the club songs. Later that year Lucky Star started to click in the clubs and on the radio and you knew that was going to be a hit. I still didn't make the connection. And then, as if to totally change everything like throwing gasoline on a fire, this song came out and you knew it was a game-changer. Like, people in the dancing community would have to take this girl seriously. You couldn't stop hearing it and wanting to hear more. I remember going back into the club to look for them and congratulating them on the record, but they were long gone and Madonna became Madonna. I was completely engulfed by the album. I remember buying the album and the White sales guy laughing and saying to me, "you really think this is going to be worth it?" Then the other White laughing and saying, "You just want a sexual freak into chains and shit!" I said, you just watch, this is going to be a hit album. I came back about a month later and they laughed and said they couldn't keep it in stock. At that time I was trying to get the 12in version. The very beginning of this song is what made it a hit, because it was a DJ trick used by Jellybean to make that sound effect. She should have stuck with Jellybean. He is the beat Madonna will always be known for. Sorry, they had a falling out. I would like to hear them do another album.
I remember buying what I knew as 'The First Album", (the re-issue of the eponymous 'Madonna') on cassette around 1986 after becoming a Madonna fan thanks to Patrick Leonard's masterpiece 'Live to Tell'. I wasn't very impressed with this song. 34 years later, and this track, is one of my favourite all time Madonna songs. These REAL demos, knowing now how she created them, compared to anything she's officially put out in the last 20 years are PURE GOLD.
My favorite Madonna song of all time. Im obsessed by the 3rd demo without the backing vocals. It’s better than the final released version according to me…
I agree. I've bought this album twice on cassette (when Burning Up was a different version) on LP, and twice on CD, thanks to the original artwork release and remaster. Probably my favourite in a lot of ways.
Definitely a song I would LOVE to see her perform live after all these years. This and Borderline are my favourites from the first album, followed by Burning Up and Holiday. On Like A Virgin I really only like Dress You Up, but after that it's pretty much everything from Into the Groove to Love Spent.
I remember it being played and no one knew if she was white or black but they were leading more toward a black singer because her voice was so so full!
This isn’t a Jeallybean demo. Jellybean remixed several singles from her debut album ("Burning Up", "Borderline", and "Lucky Star”), but this demo (and song) is by Reggie Lucas, who produced most of this album and re-worked Stephen Bray’s demos of “Everybody" (along with Mark Kamins), and "Burning Up". Jellybean did, however, produce her first major hit, “Holiday”, which was her first single to top international dance charts, bringing her to the masses (right before Like A Virgin was released, which solidified her international fame and unstoppable popularity).
I'm surprised Madonna didn't write this one. It sounds so her, it could have so easily come out of her brain both melody and lyrics. I figured she and Jellybean did it.
Madonna was destined. This and “Burning Up” are jewels from her debut. And the rest is history!
That album is damn near flawless lol, it’s peak 80s pop
@@FoxyChariot it aged like milk… her only 80s album that aged well is Like a Prayer

Cute voice of madonna
Noel Ramos Cute and she always had a quality to her voice. I feel she sings with way more heart & pure emotion on her early era
Improving with each demo!
