LYRICS
Why’re the kids locked up?
Take this silence and blow it up
Why they go so young?
Falling sisters and burning sons
They put our kids in the system
Findings, reports, and royal commissions
Numbers, statistics when they’re making decisions
Assess the risks and build another prison
Got a license for a car they under staffed
Positions need filling and they need another guard
Who’s lighting their path when they’re frightened in the dark
They got spit hoods understood that it’s for their own good
And you expect them to act when they get told they’re no good
Stand them in line and you make them go last
False starts everyone runs past
And you tell them catch up while they’re choking on dust
Blow it up, throw it up
Carve our name on the frame so they know it’s us
I’ll tell them where I’m at and they can follow me
Remember that they’re kids not a campaign policy
Isolate the individual
Separated from their families, visits and intervals
Maximum punishment, rehab is minimal
Treat them like that you just make them better criminals
Why’re the kids locked up?
Take this silence and blow it up
Why they go so young?
Falling sisters and burning sons
Why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why’d she go so young?
Why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why’d she get locked up at all?
Not going to disappear
We still here
Scream in your other ear
You will hear
Not going to disappear
We still here
Just cos they’ve been locked up
Let’s go
This cut’s a cut on us
You feel that?
This shame is all of us
You feel that
This justice isn’t just
No peace
This count’s not adding up
Let’s go
Locked up
Locked down
No justice
No peace!
“The vicious cycle remains the same. Indigenous people are more likely to come to the attention of the police, Indigenous people who come to the attention of the police are more likely to be arrested and charged, Indigenous people who are charged are more likely to go to court, Indigenous people who appear in court are more likely to go to jail. Indigenous youth now comprise over 50% of juveniles in detention. The statistics speak for themselves and the cold hard fact remains an indictment on all of us.”
Senator Patrick Dodson
Another deadly powerful song! All your work is felt everyday! Strength and respect to you! 🍻😎👍
Here from Czech Republic, thanks to Spotify for throwing this my way. I love the Spinifex Gum anthem - make moooooore!
This tune is HUGE. It's perfect. I'm in tears and it's going on repeat until my ears bleed. So good guys ❤

Very good music and video !
Love this! Hottest 100 vote!
Beautiful! There is too much to stay quiet, so thank you for making music with meaning and for using your platform!
Thank you :)
Such a powerful song. I am in tears of anguish, but also heartened by the strength of this song.
Thank you :)
I remember driving through an affluent suburb in Perth WA minding my own business on a bright sunny day. I drove a good old Holden Kingswood Station Wagon, it happened to be two-tone colour Brown and White. I miss that car. It had a small sticker on the back window of a First Nation Flag. I was pulled over by Police for no reason. They wanted to know who I was, where I was going and why was I there? I answered all their questions and was told to drive on and leave the area or they would book me. When I smiled and asked them for what could you book me? One of them, the one that hadn't said anything, pointed to the little flag at the back window and said "That'll get you a night in the cells for starters". The other one laughed.
Thanks Bob for sharing your story... it speaks for itself!
respect to this song and it 100% deserved to be played at AFL dream time 2018 Richmond vs Essendon

this police officer i met was a LEGEND though. i saw him jaywalk and then the next day he saw me jaywalk and he told me. don't jaywalk kid you'll hurt yourself. when hes about to leave i tell him that i also saw him jaywalk. he looks at me, takes me to a shop like 5 metres away , buys me chocolate and tells me 'nothing ever happened okay kid?'
This needs t be #1 trending #trend #1trending

Can hear the Ice Cube influence
10k or 11k? Probably more like 25k huh?
very disappointed in the snub for the 2017 aria nominations. Briggs is one of the most talented, hardworking and celebrated indigenous independent aussie rappers around.
Ya gotta push tha label at them brah
push distribution
push it to the board I'm lettin ya know.
Cos you truly deserve the accolades and acknowledgement.

I'd LOVE to learn more about you, but you need to resolve your URL you left above. It leads to a 404.
Thank you Calamity, please go to our website www.spinifexgum.com :) You'll find all the latest there!
Damn whoever produced this was so close to a hit. Literally all this song needed was another verse from Briggs and it would go straight to the top. It's starts with such flow and agression and then gets caught in too long of an interlude..
it is a hit for the right people.....
I dig this song a lot, and i have massive respect for briggs as an artist and person
, but i think it would have been portrayed better by someone thats lived in there for years on end, done the time
and experienced that pain first hand, but awesome track though ,clip and vocals on the hook amazing ! great job peace
Thank you!
