Contemporary Marching Band - Grade 3-4
With an infectious retro pop style, this smash hit by Portugal. The Man became one of the top songs of the year. Effectively constructed in layers, this fun chart opens with a bass riff and builds all the way to the end.

Incoming Freshman in Marching Band. Gotta learn this piece.

I'm an 8th grader in high school marching band
Yeah... which school?
I’m a freshman and we played this for a halftime show and it was actually very easy to memorize and play

Thank Jesus, a real bass line
The Drangler my high school has a great bass line
Rather thanking Jesus for that, perhaps you could/should just thank Mr. Matt Conaway, instead.
Now pray to the gods that the sousaphones don't drag.
Senior year, bari sax, low A key, running to the front of the field to just jam out with sousaphones and not march
And also played the Alto part for Basketball games
My first year in marching band as a 8th grader we played this song in parades and it evolved into a stand tune. I have my snare part ingrained in my head forever.
w snare player
Ah, the joy of stand tunes.
My band director got this for us and it sounds great!
Tejh MaDawg YYYYYYEEEEEAAAAAHHHHH BOY
SAME AKDJDHFJAD
This will always stick with me. The senior that was supposed to be lead trumpet player could no longer be part of marching band. This was the first performance of the year, I had missed band camp due to being sick, and it was me as section leader with a new sophomore. It was terrifying, but I did it, it taught me a lot, and I love it so much.
This tenor sax part had me in shambles trying to play 😂😂
Miku Sukean right? Like why do we have to get those damn eighth notes going down the scale?
it doesn't seem that bad, at least there isn't a Bb
Ik right, at least I dont have to play it

Me: *points to key signature*
UwU so y’all complain about having a boring part and now you’re complaining about it being hard, typical low brass/reed players
Wish I was still in band 😕 clarinet
#teamclarinet would likely take you back as a free agent.
PD Eventing I am a clarinet
Thats why u don't quit bc music breing out the best in us all
the bass line is so simple, i have it memorized at one glance, played this last football season as our stand tunes it is lit
It's simple but still is so fun somehow.
My dad just said this is pumped up kicks😂😂
Sara Archey Well kicks is definitely one of the lyrics “I’m a rebel just for kicks now”
Mister postman
Sooooo gooooood! I wanna play this with my schools marching band so much! The sousaphone part is just 👌🏽
My eighth grade band played this at our concert two days ago. I played the bass drum. It's my favorite band song ever.
we play this all the time for our pep band for basketball games, its not my favorite to play, but always manages to get stuck in my head. much love from a trumpet player!!
Get it Drumline
Brandon Martin YYYYYEEEEEEAAAAAA BOIIIIIIIIII
aYYY
Yeeeeaaaahhh, I love that you commented this, that's exactly what I'm in lol
Brandon Martin yesssss
lol ikr
YES!!!!! FINALLY! I am so happy they made this arrangement!
I’m a baritone and when we play we have c tied c eight notes c c x2 then same thing with e and f then it repeats for most of the piece
Sophia Newell ayyyyy baritones
Yea. Its capable of making me beg for death
Baritone gang
We played this song in are parade and it was a song that everyone new and they all were dancing to it so fun
Just started band camp yesterday and today we started playing and we also had a listening session. He said to go home and think of some recommendations for pep tunes and I feel like this would just be so much fun to play.
God bless my ears😭❤️❤️
Can't keep my hands to myself
Think I'll dust 'em off, put 'em back up on the shelf
In case my little baby girl is in need
Am I coming out of left field?
Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now
I been feeling it since 1966, now
Might be over now, but I feel it still
Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now
Let me kick it like it's 1986, now
Might be over now, but I feel it still
Got another mouth to feed
Leave her with a baby sitter, mama, call the grave digger
Gone with the fallen leaves
Am I coming out of left field?
Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now
I been feeling it since 1966, now
Might've had your fill, but you feel it still
Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now
Let me kick it like it's 1986, now
Might be over now, but I feel it still
We could fight a war for peace
(Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now)
Give in to that easy living
Goodbye to my hopes and dreams
Stop flipping for my enemies
We could wait until the walls come down
(Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now)
It's time to give a little to the
Kids in the middle, but oh 'til it falls
Won't bother me
Is it coming?
Is it coming?
Is it coming?
Is it coming?
Is it coming?
Is it coming back?
Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, yeah
Your love is an abyss for my heart to eclipse, now
Might be over now, but I feel it still
Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now
I've been feeling it since 1966, now
Might be over now, but I feel it still
Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now
Let me kick it like it's 1986, now
Might be over now, but I feel it still
Might've had your fill, but you feel it still
Who's here 2024? Very lit song🔥
I know people complain about playing chords but they work really well in this song
The chords make me want to die (I play baritone 😭)
Ayyyyy I’m gonna be a freshman I’m starting school soon and I have band I’m gonna learn to play the drums
Nice choice dude. I play drums too. Good luck.
from one drummer to another- enjoy it!
how’s it going?
@@kaedynevans1130 I’m a junior now I had band freshman and sophomore year in sophomore I did marching band but I quit after awhile I played the cymbals so I didn’t learn too much playing the drums I don’t have band again this year
I played this back when I was in marching band, and I had an absolutely fantastic time doing that! :)
We're doing this as a stand tune and it sounds so good in real life
We are gonna play this for an event called 8th grade band night it's when 8th graders from band meet up with the high school band students and play for the last football game
Go Saxes!
혜성 YES👏
혜성 it's only Bari-Sax for your information

Oh my gosh I loved this song so much when my band played it in 6th grade-8th grade now
Duuuuude imagine if nick canons drumline came out in this era...i can imagine this song being a part of it. This piece is amazing.
This was so much fun playing as a tuba!
This needs more attention!!
I been practicing and "coming up* with a drum part for this song for the past 3 and a half hours
Where my drum set players!!!😃
Playing this in marching band this year, and for some reason my friend made a swing version of this song on his tuba, and has played it so much that it's become a part of his life. Everyone gets annoyed when he plays it, and once at a football game he even played his swing version when he wasn't supposed to, and our band director said if he does it again he will dismantle his tuba and bury his mouthpiece.
I'm doing this on my band concert. I play the flute
lol I'm percussion
i’m an oboe
Rubi castañeda you mean marching
Edith Candy marching? A marching band?
Piccolo here 😁😁
I WANT TO PLAY THIS SO BAD!!!
I play trumpet and I had to play this song for my first ever halftime show ever back in 7th grade. Having to do that kinda solo part was scary.
We added this as a pep tune for our marching band a couple weeks ago.
This song is so fun on xylophone
I just finished 7th grade and we started doing this for next years eight grade band night! Very hard for me to hit my high D in this song tho
Use the same air you would use to play low and loud and focus on using your tongue to make the eee sound
Are you treble or bass? If bass, then it shouldn’t be difficult.
I hate playing this song and love playing this song both at the same time- an alto sax
freshman playing this ✌🏼✨
Favorite song to play In the stands for marching and pep band
Gotta love that low brass open.
Playing this again this year 👌👌👌
i play the tuba and this is the most fun piece to play
LOVE BEING A SAX
When I first got this I was dying I couldn’t even play it but know o know it like the abc’s
We are playing this for our spring concert and middle school
Oof I’m getting this for a spring concert
GreenWhale77 I’m a 6th grader and I can play it no problem it’s really fun
Very Nice
uhh why did i pick the instrument that never gets heard.I LOVE this piece such a great inspiration
It's beautifull
Yo, as soon as this song stopped playing, my band director started talking in the google meet. I can't believe his perfect timing.
I play ride and snare for this song in my marching band
I play sousaphone. For this one the sousaphones stood on boxes in front of the field and just danced the entire time while the band marched behind us. Our theme was Rebels
This is amazing
I love this piece me and my tuba section call it feel THE steel cause why not
I played this song for my first parade
Am in sixth grade and am learning how to play and am doing realy good and i am doing a play on may 17, i cant wait.😀
Nyiraburo Jean I’m gonna be playing in marching band on May 18th ✌🏻
this is like my favoret thing to play in band
I’m in 8th and I play tenor sax and I was thrown into learn this with the high school a week before the first performance! I’m done for haha we perform on Thursday
TRULY AMAZING
Sang a mashup with this song in choir.. Now I want to play it too
I played this song in my band but the clarinets had the melody in the beginning instead of the altos and were doing what the trumpets did for the chorus. But it still sounds great
Played this in 6th and 7th grade and I want to play it againnn
wow i want to play this now
Trumpets ❤🎺
i played this in 6th grades band. it was so fun.
Play this yesterday in a band concert in polk middle school
I miss this stand chart, can’t play it with my band until August
We are playing this we got our music for it yesterday and my friend Andrew he’s in pit and he said he doesn’t like it it’s to slow and not a pep song really I like it though
Jestem pod wrażeniem 😍😍
i really wanted to play this for my next concert but instead, most people in my band class voted to play Bohemian Rhapsody over Feel It Still :(
Trumpets 🎺??
I played this for 7th grade marching band
I switched to baritone this year from trumpet and I absolutely regret it. Had so much more fun with trumpet last year
can you feel the love tonight
TRUMPET SECTION HERE
When you forget to write a Tenor Sax part so you just transpose the Alto part and call it a day
I played this during marching band season in high school marching band I am still in high school

CJ austin yea most tuba parts are just holding out one note
@@jacobhunter3159 im not a tuba but im still part of the baseline in this song and i agree most baselines are holding 1 note most of the time. I have this song memorized probably one of the best songs i have ever played
Learning this for marching band
Like McDonalds would put it, Lovin' It. *mic drop*.
This will be super helpful!
I play this in band
The ending gave me southern band vibes
The original feel it still arrangement is great but this this much better especially for trumpet
