Due to a severe sickness and disability, I have been at home since september 2019. I mean, inside the house (Corona lock downs....hahahaha!). During these 2.5 years, my husband and I completely changed the way we spend and safe money, and we were able to safe a very high amount. All I wish for is a home that is completely accessible with the wheelchair! I am overwhelmed with what is possible if you really focus on saving, and I am so thankful for RUclipsrs like you who share their knowledge and experience. We often get asked "...and when do you want to enjoy life?!", but the truth is - I need money to enjoy my life again! Wheelchair-accessible flats and houses are often new and therefore expensive.
Hi Quilting Crow, yes absolutely you do need money to make your life easier and more enjoyable. I really do hope you are able to achieve this! Once you change your mindset around money it’s like a lightbulb goes off. You realise that saving for your goals is so much more important than buying stuff that doesn’t have much impact on your overall quality of life. I wish you all the best and I’m so glad you enjoy the videos 😊🌸💕
In England, we have a 'credit score' system which looks at your debt and whether you pay it off, then the banks are happy to give you even more credit. The banks make money on credit, they do not make money on people who save or who live within their means. Thank you for your very positive videos. I have a pen and paper ready every time I watch!
Hi My Sustainably Journey, yes those of us who pay cash, pay on time or pay early are are not as much use to banks. I’m glad you find my videos helpful. Hugs 🥰
I hear you on the pre approval application. When we looked it came back saying you may have made a mistake as our expenses per month were below the average for our demographic in our late 40’s no dependants. They said the average expenses range is 3.5k to 6.4K per month.. wow. We’ve alway been frugal and have healthy savings , and a small mortgage. However I will spend on things that I feel adds value to me - for example , I’m wanting to put in a pool which is a huge expense but it’s something that will add value to my life, whereas I don’t spend on clothes I don’t need, decor, general shopping and take out as those things don’t add value to me..
Hi desiring LESS, you know you live in a crazy world when spending less and saving more means the banks are scratching their heads 😂. I think spending on what we value the most and saving on the things that don't is what makes the most sense and that will look different for everyone. 😊🌸
Thanks.... I really enjoyed this!! So much of what you said really resonated with me. We have been questioned previously by a bank that we were organising a mortgage with, as our spending records indicated that we were spending way below the average.
Hi Grim, I really don’t find healthy eating that expensive as long as you shop around and buy in season. I love bulk cooking, it really makes my week so much easier 🥰
Hi Lisa, I love it too, it really makes life much easier. It feels so good to have your food prepared for the week. You have a lovely long weekend also. 😊🌸😂
Yes we don't take major holidays, we do instead go visit family a few times a year in a larger city, and our family come up and visit us once a year, we live in a small desert town my sister had said it's like visiting us in the country lol. We also during our visits have great family pot lucks. I to cook and bake once a week. I to use my instapot, and slow cooker so I don't have to turn on the stove.
Living a minimal lifestyle doesn't have to be difficult.. It's the mindset adjustment that has to come with it that is difficult to get used too. The GF and I buy in bulk to save money AND time.. Taking the time to re-package is less time consuming than going to the store weekly to get re-supplied and you save the weekly trips in gas expenses too.. She/we drive her 14 year old car and I also have a 37 year old P/U.. The vehicle payments I DON'T have to make goes into investments since I already have well over 6 months of expenses set aside in a CD Ladder/Emergency Fund (its supposed to be for emergencies right?)
Hi Kevin, I love my minimalist life, it’s been a great journey and you’re right, it isn’t difficult. Yes the emergency fund is for emergencies and the investments are for your future 😊. Sounds like you’re doing a great job. 🥰
I often think of this...I examine the cost of something vs how long it took me to earn that money for said item. Trading x amount of hours or days for said item.
Hi Liz, it is definitely worth the effort! and once you begin, you some to the realisation that it really doesn't matter if you do things differently to most people, there is a freedom in doing what feels right to you. hugs 🥰
Another very inspirational video, you 😊 Did you learn any frugal tips from your husband? I think you have said he is from another country and I'm curious if he had a frugal background or if you were the more frugal one when you met?
Hi LP, I have always been quite careful with money, the same as my husband. Although we are from different countries, our experience of money in our childhood years was similar. It was once we decided to save for our house and pay it off in 5 years that we really took things up a notch and became even more frugal. It's a way of life I wouldn’t change. 😊🥰
As far as being helpful, the Commonwealth Bank is by far the worst. I went from earning $2,000 net per WEEK to earning $500 pw on a Carers Pension looking after my Alzheimers mum. I did deals with all the banks l had debts with and believe me, earning less and being in a tight situation got me debt free quicker than any way l know. Except for CBA of course. 😂 But then....My brother died in December and my mum died 10 days later which left me with property. A high price to pay. Very high and l would rather have not if l could change it. But there it is. However, l really believe there has to be a balance. Travel is the one thing we do and see nothing for it, only the memories. As a nurse l remember looking after a 40yo guy and had this discussion. He said he worked like crazy, saved his money, paid his mortgage off fully and was planning all these things he had been putting on hold. And then came the accident. Quadraplegic. Lucky to be breathing on his own let alone checking out London Bridge. There just has to be a balance.
I wonder if the online bank only really approves mortgages that are very cut-and-dry and normal. When you got to a real person they could tell you guys were for real.
Hi Laina, yes it was a very strange experience. To have saved more than our 20% deposit and to be able to show all of our figures and still get rejected. 🤷♀️😊🌸💕
Saving money by new house rule. You have to make your snacks and treats from scratch!! Healthier and costs much less and with laziness we eat much less of it!!

The “dying” part is a question I ask all the time.
Doesn't feel like depriving if you have a strong enough push to end goal and also learn to get creative on being frugal in your fun!
So true Victoria 😊🌸💕

Hi Bel, isn’t it crazy when spending too less is a cause for concern 😂🤣. Thanks for saying hi 😊🥰💕
Another really wonderful video Rowena.I look forward each week to see what you have posted.
Hi Barbara, thank you I’m so glad you enjoy my videos 😊🌸💕
There are def situations where eating healthy are EXTREMELY expensive, especially in food desserts, but I love the idea of bulk cooking!
Hi Grim, I really don’t find healthy eating that expensive as long as you shop around and buy in season. I love bulk cooking, it really makes my week so much easier 🥰
My struggle is increasing my means. With chronic disabling pain from car accidents and my refusal to do government aid, means are always small.
Hi Victoria, yes that must be difficult. An easy way to get a little extra cash that doesn’t take much effort is by doing online surveys 😊🌸💕
Great video with wonderful content! By the way your hair looks beautiful with your diy styling and coloring❤️
Hi Shobha, thank you 🥰
Great tips, I love my Sunday batch cooking, makes life & meals so much healthier & easier each & every week.Game Changer.
Have a great long weekend 🧡🍁

Hi Aries Energy, yes that’s a helpful way to look at it. Have you read Your Money or Your Life? 😊🌸💕
@@RowenaMarie no I haven't but that sounds like a good read. I think I will now. Thank you 😊
The premise of the book is calculating your purchases in time spent working for them, so it’s interesting you have the same idea. 😊🌸💕
Great tips thankyou 💚
Hi Michelle, glad you liked them 😊🌸💕
Thank you so much for the tips!
Hi Tia, you’re welcome 😊🌸💕
Great video
Hi Alicia and thank you 😊🌸💕
Well done. Going against society’s trends isn’t easy at first, but well worth the effort!

Happened to me just the other day. I hope to find a "good" bank or credit union soon...
Hi Sabine, isn’t it crazy! I’m sure you’ll find a bank who will approve your loan. Hugs 🥰
Your voice is so cute 🥰 ❤
This person who works in the bank is definitely not living bellow his means 🌹❤️👍
Hi DJ, definitely agree 😊🌸💕
Wish I could save all my wages goes on bills my rent and council tax is rediculous x
Hi Heidi, yes that’s frustrating. 🥰
@@RowenaMarie sure is work hard for nothing x
