The fact that F-16 doesn´t have FOD protective angled slats located at the top of the wing-root open to provide alternate air intake to the jet engines, which, should a single rock, bolt, nut, or minor road debris find itself inside, can have a cataclysmic effect on a modern high-performance jet engine, progressively getting worse during flight as the blades, now potentially bent or unbalanced begin to self-destruct the engine internals?
And the fact the USAF, with no provision for FOD protection or alternate, high-mounted intakes during the entire time spent on the ground, this calls for rigid and inflexible FOD control measures from the location of engine start, to taxiing routes to the runway. (in the USAF, they use hundreds of maintainers walking at arms-length intervals two to three times a day with eyes on the ground looking for any and every piece of debris that could be ingested by the multi-million dollar vacuum cleaner with only ONE engine they are charged with maintaining.)

The F-16 wont make any difference in the outcome. The F-16 is an old fighter jet that is still a formidable weapon in the hands of a pilot that has been flying them for years and is accustomed to its behavior and capabilities. But ukrainian pilots, no matter how motivated they are, have flown only Migs and Sukhois, two old fighter jets that are also formidable weapons in the hands of trained pilots. Even in CNN a pilot aknowledged that it takes about 6 months to properly train a pilot to take off, fly the thing and land it. Not to mention attack missions and dogfights. You think a crash course will level ukrainian pilots in a new platform against veteran trained russian pilots, comfortable for years in their own platform for air combat? Also point to this "little details": F-16 require a lot of maintenance (16 hours for 1 flight hour), F-16 need long neat airstrip to take off (easy target for a FAB-500 or even a Lancet), Each AMRAAM missile costs about 1,2 million dollars and take a long time to produce them, the US is not going to give the ukrainians all they need because the US will risk getting a shortage of missiles. But I say give them to Zelensky, maybe something good might come out of it.

And they can always draw down from equipment and troops from the Eastern bits of Russia (I think troop numbers are already running thin, even from the East, hence the conscription recently) but I expect they still have 1000s of tanks and artillery and guns and loads of ammo left. Although the gear they are drawing from seems to be mostly from the 1970s onwards now, I expect it will be even more common to see 1950s gear on the field as the war grinds on.
You can beat them on quality, which is where Russia seems to be failing hard. That is the secret sauce of the western gear. And better training on the Ukrainian side seems to help alot as well. Which is again another huge Russian failure.

Sadly, no. Until there are changes in the Russian government, while Putin is in power, the war will continue. Presently, Putin has no other choice, if he backs down he will be facing a trial in Hague. This will turn into a war of attrition. At best, it will be frozen like the Korean war, and just like DPRK, Russia will remain a pariah for decades. I hope Putin does not use nukes.

I'm sorry but you don't even remotely grasp anything if you actually think this. F-16's aren't modern aircraft. Russia has anti-air systems. This is a waste of time and money.
Stop drinking the media kool-aid. We need to start negotiating peace talks instead of dumping money into this and barreling towards WW3.
      Ignorant media sheep.

Ukraine had hundreds of planes when war started. Why do you think that few dozens of f16 will make a difference? They won't even get new capabilities, since they use NATO rockets from soviet planes anyway. I would agree with you if NATO decided to send thousands of planes to them, but with only few planes Ukraine will just keep loosing

As desperation grows, after aircrafts, next tranche will be large ballistic missiles, then the last one will be submarines and surface ships. Then the end.
Such a sad state of current affairs. Without Dutch and American pilots, this is all useless.
Ukraine needs over 400 planes and 20 runaways with support crews to make any significant difference. All land crews need to be Dutch or American as well. The rest are just incompetent.

@@MrUbiparip Right now, no. Putin clearly seem to think he can still win somehow, despite how obvious it is to everyone else that it's lost for him.
Here are a few more "realistic" scenarios in which Putin might be willing to start negotiating on ukrainian terms:
      - the land bridge and kerch bridge are cut, seriously limiting the logistic to Crimea, puting a countdown on the russian occupation of that territory
      - in 2025, with still no victory in sight, more defeats at the hands of the ukrainians, the state ruined (meaning either inflation, high taxes and serious cuts to social programs) and the western aid not decreasing in the slightest, Putin might feel threatened by internal forces who may see negotiations with the west a way to take power in Russia.
      - after x years of fighting (be it 3, 7 or 20), the russian armed forces positions are right next to the russian borders, the western powers are really angry at how much this war has cost them and the ukrainians even more.
=> only a fool would wait that long to start negotiating, as not much would remain to offer in the balance on the russian side.
Btw, if Russia is willing to use nuclear weapons for any part of Ukraine, Crimea included, that just means a nuclear war would always have been unavoidable no matter what and humanity was always doomed by Putin's folly from the start.

Correct, helping Ukraine protect its sovereignty will prolong the war so long as Russia keeps its forces where they do not belong.
