  • Dragon Age Origins is an old favorite game of mine and Bioware has never even once managed to recreate what made it so great. But Veil guard is looking like an entirely new level of abuse for the once great entertainment and RPG franchise.

      One thing I always do in Inquisition is switch over to Solas between phases at a rift to have him use dispel on the spots where demons spawn (and similarly try to position Cassandra if she's in my party). If party members go down (including my player character), it also automatically switches to another party member, or perhaps there's times when I wish to have an ally use a specific ability on a specific enemy. Overall, even the last entry had us able to control our party members and if BioWare can't even accomplish what they did more than 10 years ago that's a bad sign, not to mention the fact that this direct sequel has needed so much time time to come out.o

While I liked that game and even bought a 2020 remaster in Steam, it was kinda action-like, and its visual style was too bright and cartoonish to consider it seriously. Dragon Age 2 was.... not the best, but I did think it did a number of things right. a lot of the characters (some... obvious ones not included) were done decently well. Merill, Isabel, and Varric being the top 3. I also think that some of the plot points from Anders could have worked if they didn't butcher his character. his ending choice to blow up the chantry worked if nothing else though it certainly needed more build-up. its nowhere near as good as DA:O or even DA:O DLC but it did a number of things decently well. I even think having it centered on a smaller area would have been fine if they had the ability to make the city far larger, with many more maps and environments to make it feel like the scale was the same as before, simply focused. almost like if we focused DA on a hive city lol. really the main reason to play DA:2 is for Isabell, Merril, and Varric but the MC wasn't the worst either as they were written relatively well as well, but I don't think it was enough to warrant a voiced MC for dragon age.

    • @adamjenkins7653
      @adamjenkins7653 Месяц назад +3

      @@calorinedarkness5232 Agreed, in my opinion the DA:Exodus (2, I still remember EA) game was badly implemented, but salvageable. For example the templar ending is very well written and executed... excepting the initial choice. Most don't chose it as Meridith's insanity is entirely obvious. If Ander's reveal was set slightly after the choice it would function much better, as you would make the choice ignorant of which mage was responsible. Meredith's response would be more reasonable, the largest group of mages in the city with a consistent blood magic, and obedience issue is the most likely culprit. Orsino could point out that that is the single stupidest thing they could of done, and Meredith could point out Orsino doesn't have control of his people.
      Then you make your choice in ignorance, and find the truth out later.
      It's small changes to timing and things like that that would fix the narrative issues with the game.

    • @GeorgeMonet
      @GeorgeMonet Месяц назад

      DA2 was pretty good until the start of Act 3 when it instantly turned to shit. When characters did things that made no sense for the character to do.
      Such as the Mage leader turning himself into a monster even though you saved all the mages by killing all the Templars.
      And there is no way that Anders could have used magic to blow up the temple. Magic in DA works by using Lyrium to overlay impermeable reality with permeable Fade that can be controlled with the mind. The more lyrium you have the more reality that can be overlaid with Fade. The ONLY way to produce magical effects is to use this Lyrium Fade overlay process. Well poop is not lyrium so poop cannot be used to cause an explosion. The only thing that could cause that type of explosion would have been a very large amount of Lyrium. Which Anders did not have.

    The first fantasy RPG I ever played was Dragon Age Origins. It was in 2017: my folks got me a 360 a few years prior, and my dad a while back got Xbox Gold for me. And it was the first game I ever got. I already had Fallout and thought "why not? I'll get it."
    Thst day, it became one of my Top 10 games of all time. I did chores around the house for the DLC; esoecially bigger tasks like cleaning up treelimbs as big as I was. After high school, I got the Awakening edition just to have a physical copy.
    After that, I tried DA2. While nit as great as the first, I can still find good things in that giant mess of a game. And Inquisition? If it were a woman, I'd propose.
    Dragon Age, alongside Fallout and Mass Effect, became one if my most favorite games ever. Even after discovering Dark Souls and FromSoft's RPG's.
    In Veilguard, I do not simply see a bastardization of a series I love; no it's worse. I see the final dying wail of this self-wounded beast. I see the cancer coming close to taking out the host, and that host is begging me to (metaphroically) shoot it to end its misery. Granted, that was really all the way back when Dragon Age Absolution came out; now it simply begs to die.
    Ah well, at least the latest project by Archetype games looks very promising. Headed by Bioware old guard, including Drew Karpyshyn as writer, it might be worth something as long as the Woke mind cancer doesn't claim it.

    I gotta say arch, I'm appalled at what has been done to dragon age. They had such an amazing setting with great characters, history, and lore. This is what they did with so much promise... I'm not even angry anymore, hell maybe I'll run a DND game based in dragon age instead. I feel like I could do better with it.
    Also had to laugh that you referenced vtmb and deus ex. Some of my all time favorite games. I do hope you cover some of the bloodlines 2 stuff as well as how paradox has handled the IP. I managed to talk to a community manager once and it was disappointing to say the least.

    When the new Final Fantasy 7 is more of a party based real time with pause RPG than you, you really can't be calling yourself a RPG anymore.

    Totally agree, Bioware should have been shuttered after Anthem honestly.

    In DATVG the devs believe you are as stupid as they are.

    I'm betting that what's left of Bioware has been hit by the Competency Crisis HARD, and the programmers they have left can't figure out how to get the character swap function to work, so their management is instead using DEI talking points to market the bug/downgrade as a """feature"""...

    I just hope that after this - Bioware is put under enough "earth" that it never rises again. Andromeda, Anthem, now this abomination... Enough is Enough.

    Dragon Age peaked with the origins, and it's worth noting that all the talent in bioware has long gone in fact one of them has formed a studio and hired all their old colleagues 😂

    There's only one good Dragon Age and it's origin + awakening. One of the best RPG I've ever played and it is a self-suficient story that does not need any other iterations.

    ... I remember when these games had a PAUSE button and SWITCH PARTY MEMBER
    Good times, good times.
    But this is AAAA gaming in 2024 so can't have that right!

    Anyone else have noticed this brain dead 3 button model has sneaked itself every so called "rpg" these days. Specially if it's made by amazon
