This is helpful, thank you! I am younger but have arthritis and I have actually naturally found myself preferring to go to headquarters and knee slice/smash (wiltse style) - through the guard - which yeah often ends with me in half guard, so kinda cool to know I'm doing the right thing
Start the match by mentioning how old you are and listing your recent injuries. Make painful sounds whenever they are about to pass your guard or sweep you.
I can remember the last americana I seen in BJJ high level competition. It was Gaby Garcia vs Beatriz Mesquita in 2011 finish by americana . It looks like Gaby has actually used this submission a lot .
I'd be very curious to see his details for getting a key lock to work against higher level guys. My problem is being able to pin the arm effectively and prevent any turning.
Im 32 and i have to use cleverness, solid technique, and patience to be able to control and submit the 19-26 year old mma guys that are faster, stronger, and all around more physically capable than i am. Its a challenge every single time, and frustrating to me when they use what would normally be a bad fundamental move to escape a position that i worked so hard to get to.
@tomsawyer7429 I smoked for 10 years, didn't take care of myself like I should have, and had some injuries that still give me issues. My point is that I can't depend on my physicality like I used to, and my teammates are still young enough that they aren't limited by any of that yet. I never said I was geriatric and completely broken down, just that I recognize where I'm headed with age and that I need to be smarter about where I use my physicality. I want to be able to make that transition gracefully.
John: why compete with younger dudes? Just chill brah. To be honest though, losing position is not the worst thing that can happen: getting injured is. This should be front of mind for everyone. But young blokes are too stupid to realise this. Old blokes should be smart enough to realise this if they are given the information. Please disregard my comments if you’re on your way to being adult black belt world champion.
I’m 22, this was very helpful 👍 all these children have been bullying me here in my old age
😅 omg
Don't let him bully you son!
For the love of acai, PLEASE GET A MIC FOR THIS MAN!
I support this, his own nobody else can use mic.
😂😂😂
AÇAÍ!!!!!!!
Guys you need an external microphone for your camera. Its the only way we will be able to listen to Danaher properly.
50 year old two stripe white belt here and I appreciate this!
Hispect
I needed this. I tried upping my cardio and didn't notice a difference. I got back to calisthenics and kettlebells and I notice a difference.
I've had my "game plan" in my head thinking about going back to jiu jitsu and I love that John Danaher is here validating it
I'm 38, and I'm not sure how I feel about this perfectly describing my top game.
Great stuff. Audio volume is a little low guys. Thanks.
55 year old blue belt checking in! Thanks
This is helpful, thank you!

Fantastic option. I have never seen the NS strangle finished like this. I will definitely be giving it a try.
Awesome video but the audio is way way too low.
Why dont u do a mma grappling instructional john?? It would be fascinating to see ur approach towards mma grappling 😢😢
This is Marcelo's Garcia position. A great submission.
John is a genius. Thank you Bernardo for sharing the knowledge.
I like the way Bernardo smiles when he sees the tap.

Listening to Yoda is worth seeing 2 minutes of demonstrating technique 👍
Danahers mic situation is like a running joke at this point. Somehow I feel like if you put a mic on him he would talk even softer.

Oh I need this. I’m Masters 5 and I roll with in practice are half my age it seems.
Not even old and this speaks to me
It speaks to me as well bro. It calls me
The instructional we (Masters) have all been waiting for 😅😅😅

13:23 bruh the cameraman really can't be asked 😂😂
I dig it!
goat status oss
low volume audio issue when sensei Danaher is speaking
I'm in my early 50s and a white belt with 9 months training. Everyone at the studio is younger than me. Good times.
Haha! Same here. And they don't go easy on the old man. On the plus side, a life of manual labour has given me some nasty old man strength.
@@geneharrogate6911 Yes indeed!
Please mic JD. He needs a volume boost.
Danaher need a microphone, he is always half as loud as the other guys
Looking at this in order to counter it.
Sweet
Who wants to see John sparring?
He doesn’t. He used to in the gym (never in competition), but his body is too wrecked now.
GJJ lesson one
Everything I heard from Henry Akins years ago .
mic check!
I have my volume all the way up and still cannot understand a word he's saying.
You can't hear Danaher
Slow progress, always keep on top and using basic movements. A great style for bjj over 40.
Did someone fall asleep at 13:25?? I hear snoring.
Okay guys 😅
Poor Brian…
north south, east west lol

Bro… you’re 32 not 62

@@mraBJJ33 your paying for the time where you was not looking after yourself. Now you need to embrace and remind others to not mess up there youth )
Try starting at 48, and currently being 49. 😆
32 is young
With the number of Danaher athletes using PEDs we have to ask: juiced or regular? 😁
Sorry but Danaher needs to project his voice!
why does the bald guy whisper so much?

Technically it'd be West-East would it not? 🤔
