How long do you make your cording? Do you make a long amount and wrap it around something and just make more when that is gone or do you have 4 spools of you use together for cording...I know how you said it in the beginning but when you are making something that uses a lot of cording and because you make it look so easy you must have been doing it for some time...is there a trick you use so you are not always running out of cording and stopping to make more! Thanks for sharing your knowledge
+o0oMysticdragono0o It's partly a question of experience. If you're working with no 10 thread, you need a bigger length than if you're using thin thread. I look at the pattern and mentally calculate how much cord is needed . I usually use a minimum of a yard or metre, unless I know it won't need much, maybe after making the motif previously. I fold it over and tie it up, but some people wrap it round something, it's up to your preference. I've made some videos where I show different ways to lengthen the cord. One tip is to make the 2 lose ends longer than the folded length of thread, that way you always have something to lengthen the cord with, without having it show. It would be costly to have to have 4 strands on spools though. Don't forget that irish crochet is the original freeform and you can use your imagination, there are no strict rules.
Thank you for your answer...I have been crocheting for about 40 years, but just now want to try the Irish crochet...it is so different from what I am use too, I guess if I start to short it will be good practice in adding more cord and we all know practice makes perfect ~.^ thank you for your help
