    It just pops notes out like no other guitar and that’s what we really like to hear. So light. So comfortable. It’s the first guitar I grab every time I’m home.

    I got my first Martin after playing for 30 years. It was a ceo7. It’s not a big dread sound like an 18 or 28 but it is incredibly responsive to light dynamics and finger picking. It does however get louder and dreadish with heavy strumming which makes it a best of both worlds comfortable to play guitar. Your sound for video isn’t the best but I’ll confirm it’s a naturally balanced instrument in person or recorded. The Gibson L00 and Waterloo 14 have similar organic sounds and are competitive options.

      Having traded a D-28 against a new CEO-7 I find your assessment to be spot on Tim. It also matches my personal experience. My other guitar is a 000-28 and whilst there are so many similarities, they are 'dramatically' different and that delights me.
      The main reason I traded was, in my 70s, I find a dread sized guitar a bit uncomfortable and as I only play for my amusement, why not have a comfortable instrument - the CEO-7 gets five stars for that. Sounds sublime too and is easy to play.

      Comfortable playing is also extremely important and the reason I only play my ceo7 and Strat on my couch almost everyday. I play the other guitars in different situations.

      Same story. Started playing when I was 13 and bought my first Martin now in 2024 at 45, a CEO-7. Went in to 4sound in Oslo tontry a D-28, but the guy in the store told me tontry out the CEO-7. Couldn't stop thinking about it and in February a used one showed up so I immediately wrote the guy. In just an hour seven people had said they'd wanted to buy it. It was a 2018 model and had been played almost every day. I've played a guitar quite like it.
      I only play finger picking these days and this guitar have improved my playing by a ton. Try to play it every day and am so grateful for it.

    I hate to argue, but don't think this CEO 7 is a Martin design. The CEO designation has been used on slope shoulders and this one is built off a Gibson patent. A similar Martin design would be an 0-18, which has a longer scale length.

      As told to me, personally, by Chris Martin himself… “ the CEO-7 is Martin’s copy of a Gibson’s copy of a Martin”. I actually have the conversation on video

    • @Ledzepfan88

      Could be it needs oil, also Martin is known for using eco friendly alternative, and it's rare to see jet black ebony, bob Taylor made a fantastic eye opening video on this. The state of ebony. They would cut down so many trees just to get that one good jet black one and not use the b grade, I purposely had my custom not a Martin, someday though.. mine is from leangreenguitars from etsy(pictured) built with mineral streaking on the treble side because it's beautiful. Doesn't affect the sound at all. So even Martin can have ebony with mottling or streaking, jet black ebony is so environmentally ignorant these days, I actually wish they would use all species.. like pale moon ebony etc.

    • @TimMilliken

      I want jet black ebony even if children have to die for it. I don’t believe this crap about sustainable wood for something as rare as $3k guitars.

    • @saintless
      @saintless Год назад +1

      @@TimMilliken Those trees are mostly gone.. the ebony issue that Bob Taylor discusses is specific to the sub species that is now commonly used, that's where there was waste. You can get a CEO new in the $2700 area if you call around, still cheaper than a custom job... I think they are saving the uniform black for custom models at this point. Best you can do is shop around and find one with wood that looks best to you, if that's a priority. My CEO is 99% black.. there's a light spot on one fret that's barely noticeable... it doesn't detract from the guitar (some of them are really ugly though, I'm not disagreeing with the sentiment).

    • @TimMilliken
      @TimMilliken Год назад

      @@saintless I did buy a ceo7 from sw couple years ago for $2700 after tax. The ebony has some light stripes but it’s a fantastic guitar and it doesn’t bother me. I have an Ibanez as153 with much darker ebony though at 1/3 the cost. I just get very suspicious of the sustainability save the planet stuff from billion dollar companies.

      Obviously, it's subjective.. Eastman has some great build quality but I don't care for the sound of their acoustic guitars (wouldn't hesitate to pick up one of their mandolins though). I feel like their guitars are more on that Collings and Taylor side of the spectrum, which is opposite of Martin imho. An L-00 is a very different sound from either.. not better or worse, just, different. I prefer the CEO-7 for an all-arounder but an L-00 is definitely good to have in a collection.
