Hello! I am just starting on metal stamping. What is your advice on the thinnest ga for sterling silver and gold filled that I should use please? Is 24ga too thin, should I use at least 20ga? Thank you
They are typically made of aluminum but you can also use copper and brass! I do notice the softer aluminums have some wear and tear over time but I think it adds to that vintage look!
@@shatiffahbeanaland8819 hi! I use a drill with a small twist bit to add holes if I need to or I just buy blanks that come with the holes already made!
You mention to start on either side of your center line, but what about horizontal alignment? Do you put the edge of the stamp against the tape or the edge of the letter itself?
Hi! The letters are the deepest point of the stamp! So you can slide the stamp down until the bottom of your letter hits the tape! That way you know each letter will be at the same height on your project! Hope this helps 💓
Hello! I purchase most of my blanks that come with the holes pre drilled but if they don’t I use a small drill and a drill bit to make them! I’ve also seen an impressart product at michaels that is for punching the holes but I’ve never tried it!
This is awesome! Do you have to seal the enamel? Or is it durable enough that it won’t come off after awhile? I’m curious because I’m making keychains.
It is acrylic enamel so it should stay! Some stamps with wider grooves have the tendency to get worn easier though. I haven't had issues with super bad wear however it is inevitable over time! I have never sealed mine nor have I seen other stampers either!
Hi! some metal blanks come with holes, if they don't I use a 3/32" drill bit from Home Depot and a small drill to make the holes personally! I have also seen a tool at Michaels to make holes from Impressart that doesn't require a drill!

Hello! I reccomend at least 20ga I usually use 18ga for my stuff! However I don’t work with sterling silver often so I’m not sure how delicate it is.
thanks for this tutorial :) do you know if the metal blanks tarnish over time? what are they made from exactly?

Hi is it essential to have the metal block
I would say yes! It absorbs the shock of the hammer hitting the blank using something softer maybe give different results!

Are those 3mm letters in size?
Yes! Most of my fonts from Impressart are 3mm, I do know lollipop which I feature in a couple videos is 2mm.
What is the font name of those letters
Hi! This is impressart’s “juniper” font!
