For whatever reason I was skeptical this could be the issue. I washed them with hot water and dish soap and my printer started working again. Thanks a lot!
Mike, thank you so much. I was just about to throw away our expensive Lexmark X544 color duplex printer when the local service center here in Israel said that they probably don't have spare parts for this printer and anyway will only be able to consider repairing it at the beginning of next year because they are busy! As a last resort I decided to look for advice on RUclips and came across your film. Within a few minutes the problem was solved. Thank you again.
Thank you, so much!!! Worked like a charm. My printer is a 410 ,not 310 but the solutions worked. I've had the "no paper" problem for more than a year and was ready to toss the printer out the window. I actually did try reaching under to clean the rollers with alcohol on a Q-tip but it didn't work. Never thought the rubber bands could be so easily removed and cleaned :). Bravo!
thanks dude u are a genius. my mx 521 now working kept deferring correcting this no paper in tray issue until my xerox phaser gave up the ghost. thanks
Used same approach on my a similar printer. Used anti-bac & soap - worked like a charm. The rubber bands/wheels had directional grip so also had to be inserted the right way.
My problem was the clutch mechanism in between the 2 rollers wasn't engaging. I've pushed the 2 sides together and it's pulling paper for now, but if I tip the printer onto its side the other way the 2 sides fall apart again. I'm sure after a while it will work its way loose again.
It solved the problem on a CX510de which was in the box for 2,5 years, when I unboxed it today, it wouldn't take paper, cleaned it with detergent and problem solved.

Worked great! It didn't work with alcohol but it did when I used dish detergent in warm water and a microfibre cloth. Thank you very much!

what kind of vodka did you use ?
Awesome, what a simple fix! I just washed the bands with regular soap in the sink, and the printer started working again! Thank you! :)
Thanks, your advice was very useful!! You saved our printer from the recycle bin.
Cant belive this rollers could get contaminated enough not to pick the paper. The trick worked 100%.
Worked great on my CS410DN. Mechanism looks slightly different, but rollers are the same and easily removed. Thanks!
Worked for me as well on a lexmark x543. Wouldn't have thought to do this, so thanks very much!

Used same approach on my a similar printer. Used anti-bac & soap - worked like a charm. The rubber bands/wheels had directional grip so also had to be inserted the right way.
This also worked for me. I used hot water and dawn detergent and then dried it and it actually worked.
