They are different, marching to their own drums
A ton of bands sound like this and have sounded like this since at least the early '90s.
They are lovingly inspired by classic punk, alt rock, and especially a sub-genre of punk from the 90s called "Riot Grrl" (number of rrrrrr's is optional lol).
90's are back! Great!

@@alicec1533 I mean, Nirvana is Grunge Punk, so if you take inspirations from grunge punk bands like Nirvana and Mudhoney, certainly you'll get a grunge punk sound yourself.
Grunge and punk are 100000% different genres, saying they’re the same is just lazy n inaccurate. Everything from the sound/music itself, culture,style, politics,history,etc. is entirely unique unto each. Its like saying jazz and classical are the same thing.

Comparing someone's classical composition, mastery and style to that of Debussy or Mozart doesn't mean they aren't talented as a virtuoso/virtuosa in their own ways. Comparing someone's acting skill or versatility to Clint Eastwood in a western doesn't mean they don't have their own contributions as a lead character in the movie they are in. Human beings look for patterns of things they like and dislike, from food to personalities, music and so forth; so being compared favorably to something someone remembers fondly isn't a disrespectful gesture but an attempt at a compliment. It's less that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and more that in the minds of most, talent is inherent to each of us and so when we encounter something new that we like, comparing it to an older favorite of ours seems fairly natural.

A lot of people say "90s came back, Hooray!". I do not agree with them. Yes, 90s are strong in this band. As well as 80s and 70s. The thing is for me, the reason I love this band is because it's something new. This music grew from 70s, 80s and 90s music, yes, but Skating Polly brings original sound and texts, new songs, new music. There are very few bands today that are original. Not blend. Not generic. Skating Polly is one of them, and I love it. Thank you for what you're doing!
