Too authentic to even describe. She did this perfectly, not just the song itself but this entire storyline for her dating back to the beginning of the series. Her entire personality makes sense if this is what she had to live with.
My favourite song in the entire series by a long mile. ''I can feel your eyes staring into mine but it's a battlefield and you're on the other side'' , such a powerful, tearful intro
What a powerful song, lyrics are so painful. Black roses being a metaphor for "pain". Sometimes pain can be distress with words , painful as physical abuses. The lyrics of this song are just right on point on that subject . Hope Clare Bowen or anyone else suffering that type of parental relationship find peace and the strength to forgive.
Wow... I love this song... She has such an awesome voice.. This was Scarlett's (Clare Bowden) best performance of the show yet.. I can't stop watching this scene..She sang this song with so much gut wrenching emotion I could actually feel the pain.. That last note she hits gives me goose bumps!!
Few songs have brought me to so much tears and goosebumps like this one, of course the background contributed a lot, but the lyrics, melody and emotion behind it is just beyond words.
@@christyupadhyaya6565 hello, from 6 years later hehe, just wanted to put it out here that the person singing in this video is an actual musician and has only since started acting in this show, called nashville, and more to come, i believe :)) but yes this is clare bowen, not kirsten dunst just in case yall needed clarification hehe
I cannot stop listening to this song. I think it can represent something different to each set of ears or heart that's listening, we all interpret n connect to lyrics in our own way and that's what I love about music! Love Clare Bowen's voice and her character Scarlett
The series reached its climax in this scene. The epitome of what music can do for people to express the most difficult things. Very moving, very involving, you completely forgot that it was a play, you could have been there with them, with your body full of both presence and the urge to escape. A special moment in a series that, despite its unevenness - and grandiose blunders - had an unusually high level and appealed to even an introverted, Scandinavian folk musician like me.
This performance literally made my stomach hurt. For Scarlett's character, that must've been so cathartic. But I hurt so bad I couldn't cry...if that makes sense.
Wow I just love this song! And so well done by Clare! Put me to tears the first time I heard it. I can relate to the feelings of Scarlett in this song.
I love this song i havent seen every season of nashville yet bit to where i am at this is by far Scarlett at her best she sung this song with such raw emotion and you can see the pain in her eyes i cryed watching it and felt every word 💖🎹
I love this song, I've been listening to it so much after this episode...! It's so raw and genuine and I love love love it! Nashville is such an amazing show ❤️
Why can't more songs me like this? I think Claire has the best voice. If I Didn't Know Any Bette,r gave me chills and the piano rendition of Black Roses without the beat version on the soundtrack is indescribable! But the version on here with the beat is just as good too.
Anche se non ho ancora letto il testo sento l'intensità di questa canzone sulla mia pelle... rispecchia il mio stato d'animo attuale: bellissimo, triste, voglia di gridare a tratti allegro, delicato...
I Love Clare Bowen and the show Nashville. I just don't really understand how no one has noticed her going down hill. I feel like everyone has just quit were worrying about her. After her melt down on stage I think they'll notice. I felt so bad. This song was truly beautiful though. Everyone on this show is so amazing and talented.
I can see your eyes staring into mine. But it's a battlefield and you're on the other side. You can throw your words sharper than a knife. And leave me cold in another house on fire. I lay low, lay low, and watch the bridges burn. I lay low, lay low, What more could I have done? Now you only bring me black roses And they crumble in the dust when they're held. Now you only bring me black roses Under your spell. She told me twice, all her good advice. But I couldn't see I was clouded by your lies. Up in smoke, a vision she foretold. She said stay away 'cause that boy's a warning sign. I lay low, lay low, and watch the bridges burn. Now you only bring me black roses. And they crumble in the dust when they're held. Now you only bring me black roses Under your spell. Now you only bring me black roses But I'm not under your spell, I'm not under your spell, I'm not under your spell, I'm not under your spell, I'm not under your spell. Oooooooh, oooh
As a child i was in a situation where my father would beat me and my mother and when he would beat my mother i would hide under a table "laying low" wondering "what more could i have done" .. This song brings back some very painful but powerful and amzing emotions for me
Both actresses have done a fantastic job here. You can see Scarlets anger and disgust in her face. You can see her mums sadness and shame in her face as she slowly realises this is not a nice song about her.
Her mother was a narcissist and narcs can't handle any sort of criticism even when its well deserved in their mind they're perfect and are never wrong and its everyone else who is to blame for their behaviour. In this episode before Scarlett comes on stage Beverly was showing off to everyone how great she is and Scarlett singing this to her was basically a massive fuck you at Beverly and public humiliation that Beverly wasn't this fantastic supportive mother she wants people to think she is.
I haven't watched every episode of Nashville but I absolutely love the music in it, can someone who's been watching all of it please tell me what happened between Scarlett and her mother? This song is 10 kinds of beautiful
This scene, this song and it’s context and Scarlett’s performance made for one of the most powerful moments in probably ANY show I’ve ever seen.

Wow at first I thought that was Kirsten Dunst! I was like I didn't know she could sing! haha Great song!

One the most powerful songs I've ever heard
I can see your eyes staring into mine.
But it's a battlefield
and you're on the other side.
You can throw your words sharper than a knife.
And leave me cold
in another house on fire.
I lay low, lay low,
and watch the bridges burn.
I lay low, lay low,
What more could I have done?
Now you only bring me black roses
And they crumble in the dust when they're held.
Now you only bring me black roses
Under your spell.
She told me twice, all her good advice.
But I couldn't see
I was clouded by your lies.
Up in smoke, a vision she foretold.
She said stay away
'cause that boy's a warning sign.
I lay low, lay low,
and watch the bridges burn.
Now you only bring me black roses.
And they crumble in the dust when they're held.
Now you only bring me black roses
Under your spell.
Now you only bring me black roses
But I'm not under your spell,
I'm not under your spell,
I'm not under your spell,
I'm not under your spell,
I'm not under your spell.
Oooooooh, oooh
