Brilliant tip, going to do this to my "new" 2009 Dyna bike when it gets delivered! I noticed the headlight was foggy and was already contemplating replacing it, saves me a lot of cash. Thanks Doc! Man, these videos are gold!
Thanks Doc for this handy guide. I just follow your instructions to clean the fog off the inside on my 95th Anniversary electra glide ultra classic and the difference is amazing. I must confess that I neglected one step though I did give sufficient time for the inside to dry thoroughly. I didn't grab a cold one as it was still too early in the morning. I don't know if you'll read this but I wanted to thank you. Take care.
Glad it helped Rudy👍….Doc
I was looking for a video on when to check the camchain tensioner on my 2007 Heritage with the 96B twin cam. I am glad I found this video. The stock headlight is partly milky looking. I will now do this to it.
I tried it today on my passing light. It turned out great.
Thanks Doc. :)
Great to hear....Doc
Once again another great tip,I watch the one on run out an also the flywheels, an the head gaskets, thanks Doc your tips are much more important than you may realize, Thanks for All that you Share!!
Thanks for the feedback...Doc
You’re great, thanks a lot for your work! Greetings from Germany😎👍
I love your videos. Thanks a lot! And by time to time remember of 883/1200 Sportsters. They are very popular here in Brazil.
About foggy headlights, I clean it with water, some drops of detergent and some raw RICE 😀. Put all in globe, shake it and take all out with tap water. To dry it completely, I put some domestic 96% alcohol, shake it, take out the excess and wait some minutes to evaporate (alcohol drags the rest of water with it).
Thank you for watching our videos and your tech tip….Doc
Thanks Doc. Looks like it cleans up really nicely.
Good one doc harley.do have spare headlight all fogged up...have not tryed anything had a few ideas..but you solved problem.thank you wonderfull information greatly appreciated. Regards jimmy.
Glad it helped...Doc
Outstanding tip! Ive done an awkward similar and not very satisfying job on my 2000 with alcohol and stuffing it full of cloth diapers and twisting it all around in there as best I could. Much better but far from perfect. It never occurred to me to use a stir stick as a squeegee
Thanks for watching, glad we could help...Doc
As always Doc, great info
Great Tip. Doc. great video.
Great tip, thanks!
Thanks for another helpful video 👍🏻
Thanks Doc. Super tip.
Old socks have a million uses in the garage! Windex also has a vinegar-based version. I fill a small (2oz) spray bottle and keep it in my windshield pouch for cleaning it and my eye protection.
Thank you Doc!
Thanks Doc! Vinegar works great on mirrors too 😎
Good to know....Doc
Thanks Doc 👍
I have a 2012 RGU, is there anything different i need to do to clean the 2 headlights than what you covered?? Thanks Doc!
if your bike has LED headlights you can not do this...Doc
Thx Doc, much appreciated!!!!!
Doc, I used your headlight cleaning tip today. 👍
Awesome...Doc
It worked Great on my 08 Electra glide classic. Thank You
Thanks for your feedback...Doc
That’s a great one tip thank you so much
Good tip doc, but why do they fog up in the first place? i have a 2004 Road King and it fogs up all the time
Water vapor condensate forms inside the lens. Keeping the inside of the headlight clean measurably improves visibility. People see you coming, and you illuminate the roadway better. Great question.
Thank you.
I’m doing this to my aux lights on my ‘09 Ultra Classic. I drank 3 cold ones just to be sure it was dry. Do you think I I should drink 3 more to be extra sure it’s dry?
I think you should have someone in the garage hold your next cold one while you and our video getter done….Doc
Thank you very much.
Even easier is to use isopropyl alcohol. Just pour a little in, swirl it around real good and then pour it out. May have to do that twice... then let it sit for a few minutes and it will dry super fast. Don't need the stick and sock at all. Works great and leaves it sparkling clean. You can even swirl it around along the back reflective side too.
Thanks for sharing...Doc
thats a good idea.
Thanks Doc great video👍🇺🇸
Glad you enjoyed it...Doc
Why didn't you show us the headlight you just cleaned instead of holding up the new one that was on in your left hand? Looks a little sketchy to me
That Was a cleaned headlight…..Doc
Thanks….great info/video…..A++
Glad you enjoyed it…..Doc
No show us how to get the moisture out of an LED headlight.
How do you clean 2014 flhtk headlight ?
I just swapped the headlight for an led. got so tired of every few months cleaning this headlight interior. tip for those cleaning the stock headlight. that metal clip....dont lose bend or break it. Harley davidson does not sell that clip separately. You either purchase an entire new headlight assembly or try a swap shop or meet to find that clip
Thanks Doc I'm going to try that.
Best of luck...Doc
Gun Cleaning Wads work great too!
Thanks for sharing....Doc
I did exactly as you showed but after 10 minutes it fogged back up again. Any other suggestions besides buying a new lens?
Apple Cider dosn’t work 😆 just kidding. I would try again with maybe a stronger solution and let it dry overnight….Doc
Mine did the same thing, did you ever find a solution?
@@pappytinkers yes, I used “mothers” polish. Cleaned it up and no more fog.
@@darlpapple6599 thank you! I was making a video of how to do this but when it dries, I noticed the fog was back. I watched this video again thinking that I missed something.. And I did. At the end, he shows the new headlight, not the one he repaired!
Just tried this on my 2000 Road King classic. Didn't even put a dent in the cloudiness. Absolutely no change. When it's wet it looks brand new. After drying it looks just as bad as when I started.
Sorry yours did not clean up…..Doc
This is exactly what's happening with mine. So far I've tried window cleaner, vinegar, and rubbing alcohol. DON'T try the rubbing alcohol, it can soften the reflective material, the chrome, inside. My next step will be a plastic polish. Have you found anything that worked?
Didn't work for me either. After it dries, the foggy look comes back😢
Curious about what to do for a 2019 Roadglide. There seems to be fogging in the lense . Will same procedure work?
I don't believe so. Your headlights are sealed LED...Doc
Great tip, but honestly, who actually kepts the stock H-D headlight? I have 3 Harley's and that headlight was one of the 1st things to go, kinda like exhaust
Thanks for sharing. I wish you would have included in your comment what replaced the stock Headlight?....Doc
@@LowCountryHarleyDavidson in the 2021 Street Glide I put the H-D Adaptive DayMaker
In the 2014 Wide Glide and 2009 rocker C I put the H-D Daymaker
How do you clear the classic fog on the inside glass of your speedo?
So far the Factory and I do not have a solution for this.....Doc
Great I have to do this to 2 bikes thanks
Have fun...Doc
Thank you 😊👍🙏🇮🇳
how about the 'fog' in the speedometer? any ways to clear that?
At this time no...Doc
Any idea what a dealer might charge to do it ?
Most won’t take the time. Please choose a nice weekend and try it yourself…Doc
Do it on a shop rag or something to not scratch the lens??
😎👍
Thats why I chose socks...Doc
@@LowCountryHarleyDavidson I was talking about having something on top the work surface to protect the outside of the lens during disassembly and reassembling, not the inside... 😎👍
I have owned many brands of bikes over the years and my HD is the only one that ever had this fogging issue. Same issue with the speedometer and Tach fogging up.
These are Foggy times my friend....Doc
I have a ‘14 FLHTK with the OEM daymaker. After the light is on for a few minutes, it begins fogging on the inside. Once shut off, the fog clears once the light cools off. I purchased the bike used out of the Phoenix area. I live in the southeast USA. Is there anything I can do to stop the fog from forming?
Buy a new, NON HD headlight is the only sure fire way to prevent this
Have you done this with the 14 up daymakers?
I don’t think there is access to the interior of the daymaker. ( sealed beam) It’s a piece of junk and fogged up it is a safety hazard. I am really disappointed with mine
@@clellanhensley5620 I took mine back to the dealer while still under warranty (bought it new)as mine were fogging up. They said as long as the light was working they would do nothing. Apparently they pretty much all do it.
@@gsfinatic yes I’ve seen a lot of them. I closely examined mine and found a gap in the glue where the face was glided on. In other words the seal is broken. Yea
Why does moisture build up in the gauges on batwing fairings?
We are all trying to figure that one out...Doc
Hello doc.. I hve a 17 ultra limited .. do I hve 2 take fairing off 2 get headlight out .. thnks 👍
No. Remove 1 screw in bottom of the dress ring, then 3 screws hold light assembly in. Do NOT mess with the 2 screws with springs on them as they are for adjusting the headlight.
How do you clean the Daymaker?
Good Question. I have no idea. It is a sealed unit...Doc
@@LowCountryHarleyDavidson I think this winter I will try to remove the front lens. Clean it drill a vent hole, use windshield glue to replace the lens. Probably won’t work, but hey, it’s fogged up so bad I won’t be loosing much if it is a failure. Thanks for your all informative videos.
On my 2017 ultra limited .. can this b done wth that type of headlight.. thnks
N, it’s a sealed LED daymaker
Thanks for the correct answer....Doc
👍👍👍
I seen the light no dim bulb here
Hahahaha
did mine with rubbing alcohol, no residue and evaporates completely
Thanks for sharing you way.....Doc
Mine like like a fog machine went off in there
😆👍well done…..Doc
Thing is, Harley headlights don't have a moisture escape hole like in other headlights...the heat from halogen bulb just evaporates the fog which escapes through the hole and bam! No fog
Nice Theory......Doc
💕💕💕💕
Mike for President 2024
No no no! I like wrenching and riding….Doc
Why did it fog up to begin with ?
Over time condensation....Doc
You "sock-ceeded" in your task!
I see what you did there :)
Doc, I love your videos, but the audio has been getting worse.
I was going to comment the same thing. Audio is getting terrible.
Douching the headlight!
I heard 99% rubbing alcohol cleans them up really nice.
Thanks for sharing your Tech Tip....Doc
Believe it or not I have found a better and somewhat easier method. Take hdlite shell and place it upside down in the dishwasher and run it through a cycle. Comes out like brand new. Really.
Thanks for sharing. I might sneak one into the dishwasher....Doc
Thanks, great tip!
