I'm a Black Latino who recently lost the love of his life. Yes, a lovely white lady. I just stumbled on this song & video and now I can't stop crying. This shit is like someone just stabbed me in the heart and keeps twisting it in an excruciatingly sweet way...I'll tell you this tho': there's no pain like knowing you love someone and they love you back and, at the same time, knowing it could never be. It's Hell.
aww, i'm sorry for your loss. i've never had a "love of my life" (even tho I'm a pretty cool white lady, myself) so i hope you can make it past this time of terrible grief. i'm sure you would agree that you don't regret meeting her and your time together, even if it was way too short. hugs and good vibes being sent your way from kcmo. ❤️
p.s. unless a big dopey dog can be "the love of a life" 😂 i still think about that stupid dog every morning that i wake up. RIP Scout, the best Golden Retriever who ever lived...
The best vocalist on the planet! Has inspired me in a multitude of ways, been listening since I first heard ‘Say Goodbye’ on MySpace, and was immediately blown away! Been here ever since, dying for a new album!
Joy Williams....Oh, don't let me forget where I was without you Don't let me forget the pain that you went through Don't let me forget that I became yours When you spread out your arms for me
I've been sharing my love for "Front Porch" since the last day of rehearsal video Joy posted on Facebook back in February of last year. I can't explain it 100%, but it tugs at the heart strings I never knew existed...beautiful song, beautiful artist, beautiful lyrics, beautiful...everything.
Watching this again - and it's just so soothing to my soul. And gives me so many feels. It's a true gift to reach into someone else's soul with your music.
There are no wrong roads And no window stays closed And love is always sad when it fades The glass is better stained anyways If never you find what you're looking for Come on back to the front porch Say my name through the screen door Come on back to the front porch Whatever you've done, it doesn't matter 'Cause darling we're all a little splintered and battered But the light is on, what you waiting for? Come on back, come on back to the front porch We carved a story in these boards Watching life go back and forth You take it all for granted, then you leave And then it takes a while to realize what you need If never you find what you're looking for Come on back to the front porch Say my name through the screen door Come on back to the front porch Whatever you've done, it doesn't matter 'Cause darling we're all a little splintered and battered But the light is on, what you waiting for? Come on back, come on back I took the long way Looking for the shortcut To find out that this place Was made of the best stuff If never you find what you're looking for Come on back to the front porch Say my name through the screen door, oh Come on back to the front porch Whatever you've done, it doesn't matter 'Cause darling we're all a little splintered and battered But the light is on, what you waiting for? Come on back, come on back, oh Come on back Come on back to the front porch
i love the story, i love your voice, i love the melodies, i love all what i watching and listening. thank you so much for the MV it made me feel that i had just experienced something. maybe it is a moment i forget somewhere in my heart.
yeah but it would be nice for joys comments to not be flooded by civil wars for a second and just appreciate her solo stuff, no matter how amazing the civil wars was and always will be. she has a lovely voice and nothing will take that away
yes, but at least Joy is 'back home' with this kind of music; it's where her own magic shows and nothing can take this away even if it's not Civil Wars...
Probably won't happen. I think it's cool they are both putting out high quality solo material. Basically means you get double the songs that you would get if the Civil Wars were still together. Take all the solo material with the Civil Wars material and make a giant playlist. Hit the "shuffle" button and enjoy all the songs as though it's a big Civil Wars mix. Joy's new guitarist and backing vocalist (Anthony da Costa) seems like a very talented guy. Hope they will keep working together.
No matter what we put each other through l still love you and you are the one l can't live without, if you never find genuinely what you are looking for l will be waiting for you
I LOVE this song! And I love anything by Joy Williams - such an amazing talent. This one reminds me so much of when she and John Paul White collaborated with Taylor Swift in "Safe and Sound." Both are hauntingly beautiful. Joy, please post more often. It's been 3 years since your last upload, which happens to be this song. We need more!
Im such a sucker for a good song about love, this video along with it got my eyes watering a bit. 😥 Ending kinda sucked, but i know life is like that all to often. If you enjoyed this video id check out a movie called Far from heaven a 2002 hidden gem, this just reminded me of that movie.
Yep. Perceptive of you to see that. Apparently Joy's marriage has ended, fyi. She now describes herself as a single mother. She also admitted a while back in an interview that she and John Paul eventually did talk again, and have communicated from time to time. You can only go forward, it's true. The past is done. But there's always the future.
@@denverdubois5835 Do you have a link to this interview? I noticed JP has played a few TCW songs just last 2019 in his shows... So I guess revisiting the songs doesn't hurt as badly as before.

Going to act like I never saw this video and enjoy the song as I thought it was about a lost family member dealing with alcoholism. That’s me I’m the alcoholic.
No words can can explain how beautifully executed this was.
My life isn't peaceful nor will it be ever, music like this gives me a few moments of calm in a silent war.

Such a beautiful voice...just miss the Civil Wars
But Joy is thriving as a solo artist
I wish the Civil Wars would come back together...what rare talent😍💖😥
Miss them too
@@orsonleighgrant John Paul is as well. Their voices just did a dance like only theirs could. I'll miss their harmony for the rest of my life.
Their voices were truly a marriage but also happy Joy came into her own power and nailing it!
beautiful story and song! I want the movie now.
There's something on her voice that touches my soul...
Just beautiful and heart breaking at the same time. I wish there was no prejudice in this life - only love for our fellow man - as Christ intended.
Beautiful. All of it. The young man in this is so handsome.
Thanks Amy just seeing this
I love this song!! Joy Williams sings this? Yay, I love her.

I listen to Joy every single day. My 5 kids love her. She brings beauty into our home 💜❤
I feel like John and Joy are singing to each other now. John go back to the front porch and say Joy's name through the screen door!
I don't know if it's us reading too much into it but I hear the same as you. They're speaking through music.
U literally said exactly what all us civil war fans are feeling!!! I swooned!! Lol agh I miss them so much
le sigh!
As crestons wife I am going to share this for black history month. I hate that they had to go through that. Thank God for mlk jr. He won with love

Someday they need revisit that.
They won't. They've made it clear they're done working together.
