This has probably been my favorite race in the series yet. I love all 3 rider cam's plus this analysis.

Fun race Nate! You had great attack timing, and I definitely worked too hard on last few laps. I thought group was 4 seconds back (maybe misheard the officials) so I was foolishly going full gas and in survival mode. Nice work in any case - played me like a fiddle.

With regard to Nate trying to find a good wattage for his attack, I’d argue that practicing the aero-hoods position and losing 20-25 watts would make a bigger difference in his effort to stay away.
I spent a lot of time training in that position this year and it’s been great for causing havoc in the break. I’m a bigger guy, 6’0 175, so I always worry that I give off too much of a draft. Practicing that position let’s me cruise at a 25+ mph pace and makes it harder for anybody I’m in a break with too.

Did you do anything besides riding in that position more often? I'm in a similar boat @ 6'2 180 and could definitely stand to work on being less of a windbreaker for everyone behind me.

Sam Selfridge Not really, I would just ride in that position for 5-10 mins at a time on the road or the trainer! I did some core work at the gym too.

Another great race analysis guys. So fun to watch. Well done on the win, Nate! And in case anyone still doesn’t know...Jose Cuevas is a beast!

Great tactics! The 1,2,3 is so effective for controlling the field, especially if you have a small team.
And lead out is for sure a learned skill.
