- Maharaja Ranjit Singh (13 November 1780 - 27 June 1839) popularly known as Sher-e-Punjab or "Lion of Punjab", was the leader of the Sikh Empire, which ruled the northwest Indian subcontinent in the early half of the 19th century.

ਕਾਸ਼! ਫਿਰ ਐਸਾ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਬਣ ਸਕੇ ਜਿਸਦਾ ਸੁਪਨਾ ਸ਼ੇਰੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਮਹਾਰਾਜਾ ਰਣਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਸੀ, ਫਿਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਧਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਉਸ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ ਮਿਲੇ, ਇਹ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਦਰਿਆਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਫਿਰ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੋਬਨ ਤੇ ਆਵੇ। ਸਾਡੀ ਮਾਂ ਬੋਲੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਫਿਰ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਬੋਲੀ ਜਾਵੇ।

In a poll conducted by BBC World Histories magazine, Maharaja Ranjit Singh was voted the greatest leader in world history.
Maharaja Ranjit Singh was nominated by historian Matthew Lockwood - assistant professor of history at the University of Alabama - for establishing "modern empire of toleration".
BBC World Histories Magazine had asked its readers to vote for the greatest leader from the names nominated by several renowned historians. The readers were asked to choose a leader who "exercised power and had a positive impact on humanity and to explore their achievements and legacy".
Maharaja Ranjit Singh was described by nominating historian Matthew Lockwood as a modernising and uniting force, whose reign "marked a golden age for Punjab and northwest India".

Saba Pervaiz Kiyani is an excellent historian and researcher. She is rekindling our shared and cherished history. It is amazing that an illiterate Maharaja Ranjit Singh passed the primary education act in 1799 which resulted in 87 of its citizen being able to read and write, which is still a challenge for both East and West Punjab even today. We learn from the video that Maharaja was secular. We need to learn from his empire and how he managed for the good of his countrymen
Look forward to seeing videos on Anglo Sikh Wars and on Satlug treaty of 1806, who drafted the treaty which is still considered a master piece legal work of Fakir brothers ministers in Maharaja’s Darbar

Maharaja Ranjit Singh (ਮਹਾਰਾਜਾ ਰਣਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ) is part of the history of DES PUNJAB, be it Lehnda Punjab or Charhda Punjab. Lehnde Punjabi only wishes to remember Mogul's rule but he was born and bred PUNJABI. Just because he belonged to a different religion his rule in Lehnda Punjab has been totally ignored in the history of PUNJAB.

desipanjaban - the respect I have seen for Maharaja Ranjit Singh in Lehdne Punjab in incredible , it is almost reverence . He was the only son of the soil who ruled Punjab in its history otherwise Punjab was ruled by invaders . There was no death penalty during his regime , no slaughtering of cows and complete religious freedom which is unprecedented even now .
I have met ordinary Lahoris who used to name Maharaja Ranjit Singh with gr8 respect. They always used title “ Maharaja” with the original name which shows their respect for gr8 Maharaja Ranjit Singh. We visited the haveli in Gujranwala where Maharaja was born and the people there, were very proudly referring “Maharaja Ranjit Singh” as one of them who, once ruled the whole Punjab, Kashmir, Sindh till Jamrud. It will be very much wrong to say Pakistani Punjabi doesn’t own Maharaja Ranjit Singh.

Starting from the Mahajanpadas, then it was ruled by native kingdoms, then it was ruled by kings from other parts of India and some foreign origin Indianised kings, like the Mauryan empire, then the Indo Greeks, Indo Scythians, Kushans, Guptas. Then the rule passed to the Vardhans who were native to Punjab. Then the Taanks who were also native. Read some history.
