I can still feel the tension when I watch these really fantastic old games.
I used to go every week to watch the All Whites home and away and the atmosphere
    back then was incredible .
What we have now is a pale reflection of these wonderful clubs .
Good times, fantastic rugby and clubs with identity.
    Many thanks for the video.

Sad to see these 2 great teams where they are now the WRU should be ashamed

gypsy80y The WRUINATION do not even blush! And now, another great valley's club are in financial difficulties. Without a sugar daddy, Pontypridd supporters are looking to raise £100,000 so that their Club will survive to the end of the 2018-2019 season and remain in business for 2019-2020

Another great old recording. Thanks Rob for continually finding these old games and posting them for all of us to enjoy.

You don't see those crowds now. So much passion and enthusiasm, I am glad i was able to experience proper Welsh first class club rugby as a supporter.

I was there as a neutral. What a game! What an atmosphere! Crowds like that were the norm in those days. Sadly, we will never see it's likes again. Congratulations WRUin!

I work out down Caerphilly Recreation Centre along with Roger Bidgood. As well as a former fellow pupil and Welsh International, Roger is a perfect gentleman!

That try from 3:50 was a thing of beauty, the reason rugby is my favourite sport.

It's the reason I loved the game too and what rugby used to be all about - creating good ball for the backs, drawing the man in and creating space for the players outside... been a dying art for a very long time. It's a far cry from what we've been watching for the last 20 odd years, the modern game basically all about contact and big men knocking lumps of shit out of each other. Never see good back play anymore - either the player goes for contact or gives the pass to the winger way too soon. Yeah - I'm of the mind rugby players were a lot more gifted all those years ago!

@@thenomad525 Yes, professionalism really changed the game, and in many ways not for the better. Guys spending 40 hours a week in the gym, specialised diet etc. Top level rugby is an exciting spectacle, but much less space, and as you say they often go for contact. But you can still see old style rugby at local and schools level.

Everyone remembers Thorburn's goal kicking but his kicking from hand was every bit as monstrous. Has to be the biggest kicker the game has seen.

As a Neath fan, I was there, never forget the day. The Welsh cup, was the equivalent of the English FA cup, look at it now, a complete joke. Wales wining the next world cup, don't make me laugh, with the shambles of a domestic game we have at the moment. NEVER

Do you have the 1988 final by any chance? Just listened to Jonathan Davies podcast at Walesonline and he mentioned it as one of his most memorable games. He'd just switched from Neath to Llanelli amid some acrimony and the two sides faced each other. He'd received threats before the game, and turned out a man of the match performance. One of his last in union, sadly.

Get that crowd! SHAME on the WRUINATION that attendances like this are now a faint and fond memory! Judgement Day my Arse!

    •  4 года назад

The sport went pro and 25 years later things are really mucked up now, unless you're in Exeter. They get crowds, and I guess Bath too. But sure, lots of empty stadiums all over, and where does the money come from to pay the players if only a few thousand are watching in the stands? Now with the Covid Virus and cancellation of seasons, it's time for rugby to reevaluate itself! How about a retreat to some sort of semi-pro status? which is what should have been done in 1995, not all out professionalism, which ruined many clubs.

    • @thenomad525

@ It's a total mess especially for the so called regional franchise, a complete joke. In Wales it's all about the national side and revenue for the WRU. Stuff the domestic game. All those who follows The Scarlets, The Blues, The Ospreys or The Dragons; can anyone seriously get excited about the forthcoming season come late August? (obviously this year's an anomaly.) Who gives a toss about fixtures vs Connacht, Zebre or Treviso? And who in their right mind would want to travel to these away games anyway, unless you happen to be on holiday there. You're spot on - rugby needs to reevaluate itself. Like hell it will, though. I'd certainly consider getting a season ticket if it did revert to semi-pro status, perhaps competing with English clubs, domestically.

As a former Pontypridd supporter I, like many, finally walked away from Welsh rugby when the WRUin took from the valley's clubs the only meaningful cross-border competition left ie the British and Irish Cup in 2015. I have never renewed my season ticket since and couldn't care less where Welsh rugby goes from here!

He did the world Cup final in 1991, lol

  •  4 года назад

How often is a grubber kick put through these days of the modern game? Unfortunately the Neath wing knocked on for a missed opportunity to score quickly, then Pontypool scores with a classic back line move, the kind rarely seen in these modern times of phony rucks and multiple phases.
