StarDust Stables actually there are saddles that small for shetlands! but to fut that horse would be difficult, so in the video its probably photoshopped.
I ride a schoolie horse and I've always used the one school saddle I first rode in thinking my trainer would know if it fits. So fast forward to this month at pony club camp I was taking up the schoolie horse I ride and the pony club leader ask if the saddle fits I say how I don't know so we see if it fits and turns out that the saddle was putting a ton of pressure on the poor girls spine and her withers I feel horrible for using it and not knowing how to fit a saddle but at the same time I was mad with my trainer for not checking if it fits. So it comes to my lesson day and I explain how it doesn't fit and she just said don't worry about it none of the school saddles fit the horses I hated to but I used it. On the previous day before we fit the saddle I rode Rosie in a fitting saddle and she was excellent never refused a jump or shook her head I can tell a difference when I use a fitting saddle.
theres a pony at my stables called pepsi, and her saddle does fit her but her shoulders are really,like, pushed in, if you get what I mean? theyre very small widthwise and so her saddle keeps slipping forwards so like every half a lesson we have to take her I to the center, get the rider off and push it back. its been a lot better lately though XD
We put baby powder on the underside of our saddles, then place it on the horse. If it’s even it should fit them well, we always check the other things as well though.
Thank you for this! This video allowed for me to find the PERFECT saddle, and it's a whole size smaller than what I was told I should be in from trainers. I actually feel stable in my saddle now, who knew that such a thing as saddle size would make such a difference in your riding position?

Would be really nice if you guys also explained the consequences of riding in an incorrectly fitting saddle: bucking, rearing, back pain, incorrect muscle growth and how this affects your horse and riding and also how to solve these issue through correct saddle fitting as well as corrective treatment for your horse through physio and chiro treatments. And that most of the time when a horse misbehaves a lot of people forget to look at physical pain and automatically assume the horse is naughty
Could anyone tell me what type/model of Steuben was the brown one (last saddle)? Would that be good for long distance riding if it fit my horse? (I know it’s a jumping saddle but wondering if it would work for endurance?)

This was SOOOOOOO helpful. My dad is not a horse person and he bought 3 new saddles without knowing if they fit my horses or me, so I have to look at that tomorrow. If they don't fit I'll just sell them and only 2 people can ride at a time ( I like to have friends over at the ranch) 😂
Ok fine, but how on earth I will measure the saddle in the shop if Im not there with my horse? In my country you just cant buy a saddle, check ti and then if its not ok return to shop and get money back. What then? Saddles are very expencive. I will buy saddle which fits me - this i can do at shop, but what if that saddle wont fit my horse? I will loose saddle and money too... Is there are any measurements of a horse I could do first before going to shop??
Didn't tell you how to actually size and fit a saddle.. Pins of saddle to T8 should be 2 fingers back of scapular ..to back of saddle flush to last rib.
Lesson horse i ride got a new saddle. Its good for him, but me and my friend who were only people to ride in that saddle so far have pain between legs cuz front of siting place in saddle is very hard. I got bruises from it. And horse is more noughty under it.

Really enjoyed this one! I love Stubben! I just bought a 30+ year old Stubben saddle and their customer service was super helpful in finding out more about it. After a reflock it is perfect (and it wasn't even that bad with the original wool).
There is a horse I ride, he has been ridden without a saddle and he still bucks when cantering or going over crosspoles but he is afraid of crosspoles what should I do!
Do lots of lunging work in the canter and over crosspoles, Try using side reins and lunging in a round pen with the jumps on the rail (so he can't run out) After lunging do work on his back trotting over pole, do this for a long time before asking him trot crossrails, then canter poles, and eventually canter your crossrails! :) Good luck!

Videos like this are great, but it takes 10 years to become a master saddler which includes work on gaining levels 3 on bridles, saddles and possibly harness and then a add on of following work as a qualified saddler. Its not something you can simply fix all the way. A simple changeable gullet is an easy fix, but a saddle on a horse with a conformation difference needs to be checked professionally to prevent damage. :)
this video was very helpful for me when i was first learning about saddle fitting and the horses comfort. i recently had to have a custom for my horse because he is just a natrialy very wide horse. the tree had to be custom made to be wide so he could move comfortably. ty for spreading correct education to anyone looking for it!

Do you have any friends with similar horses? Ask them if you can try on their saddles and take the measurements of them if they fit your horse.
