The police couldn’t arrest anyone without proof that he was the one who did it. No eye witnesses plus no video footage=no arrest. This story falls apart on that one lie alone. while i sympathize with op and think he is entirely in the right i do find it 'wrong' to say he is doing it for his wife, if she cared about money she wouldnt have given her family money, and op himself admitted that his wife probably wouldnt be to happy with him suing her family, he doesnt do it for his wife, his wife is dead, he does it because he loved his wife and her family treated her horribly and he is disgusted that they tried to tarnish her name by claiming she had debts while op was still grieving, that is reason enough, but claiming its for his wife leaves me with abit of a bitter taste in my mouth because he is doing something similiar to what her family did, claiming his wife as a reason for doing something when all the wives actions up to her death where contrary to that claim

  • @TeBThor87
    @TeBThor87 7 месяцев назад +20

    This whole story seems a bit made up to me. Even though it is unlikely someone would write that long text if it was not true, there are a lot of things that make no sense to me.
    So first of all if it was my wife I would not let this thing escalate. This would feel like disrespecting her so much as if we were stepping on her grave, ruining her peace and legacy. This would be a holy thing for me and she obviously would not have wanted things to escalate in such a dirty way. Deciding against that seems rather unlikely for a man who really loved his wife.
    Second, what kind of stupid scam is this anyways? Look, I don't know US laws but even I know that such claims usually become invalid after some years, especially after 12 years. Also no one would ever chase you for money for 12 years without filing some law suit. If there is any evidence of the claims the money transfer would have been documented anyway so no one ever wants you to pay such things in cash.
    Next thing that bothers me... what kind of lawsuit do you want to file to the parents? Like what you want to get from them? They tried to decieve you. That's a fraud, a crime. Report it to the police. You have all the evidence. That is nothing to sue someone.
    As I said, I don't know the US laws. But when I blame you for manipulating someone, don't I need to proof that by some evidence? Why does OP has to proof that he is not guilty? This would mean I could simply blame anyone for everything and win for how you gonna proof something that has not happen? That seems kinda impossible. And US law must know this.
    Maybe someone can explain these things to me. But there is just too much that seems to be not well thought about while making it up.

    • @charlottesweb5964
      @charlottesweb5964 7 месяцев назад +10

      I might be able to explain a few things.
      First off, if the story is true, then it's pretty likely that the family was abusive in some way. Probably mentally or emotionally which would be hard to prove. Seeing a loved one constantly manipulated by family is not a fun sight. Still, OP was willing to leave them alone while she was alive, simply because he didn't want to 'rock the boat' and make things worse for her.
      But then the family had to pull something after her death. Yes, the whole scam is stupid. The family was just trying to scare the grieving OP. "Oh no, the evil loan sharks will hurt us if we don't send the money!" Sounds like someone was watching way too much TV. But clearly, OP was nervous about it and talked to the secretary. Good move on his part, I think Lawyer consolations cost a lot of money.
      I don't know much about lawsuits, maybe it was about contesting the inheritance, but I do understand the point of the lawsuit. This whole lawsuit wasn't about the money, it was about principle. The family treated OP's wife like crap and they still had the nerve to try to steal from OP. If anything the family were the ones trying to step over their poor daughter's grave. They even tried to tarnish their daughter's name by implying she had debt to begin with! OP was not having that disrespect. I would've done the same thing.
      (As for the actual court proceedings in this case, both sides are innocent until proven guilty. Both sides have to speak their truth to the judge and jury. You can prove that you are not manipulative with the help of 'witnesses'. Friends, family, and maybe employers could be called in to talk about your character. US law is kinda crap though. I'm not sure that the 'loan shark' letters would've been enough evidence to arrest them. It could definitely be used in court though. BTW, I'm not a lawyer, take this with a grain of salt.)
      Fake story or not, I really enjoyed the revenge! It was really cathartic!

    • @karencorey290
      @karencorey290 7 месяцев назад

      @@charlottesweb5964 in response to the lawsuit part: truth is; in USA you can sue anyone for any reason. it's possible that the wife put something in her will that stopped her parents from contesting the will thus they went to great length's to just get OP to just give it to them. but in all honesty that is only one path he could have taken, he could have sued them for harassment to the tune of 75k or for pain and suffering, the list goes on and as long as the judge feels that you do deserve the money based on why your suing and the evidence about why so and so owes you, you have the potential to win. and if he was suing for harassment the son's made the case by trashing the neighbor's car and then resisting arrest cuz news flash to the moron brothers: INNOCENT PEOPLE DON'T TRY TO RUN!
      yeah most judges would look at the brother's like they are moron's and find in favor of whoever is suing them and go on their merry way.
      and in response to TeBThor87 the problem with not letting it escalate is that then OP is giving wife's birth family control over his life and he's right they didn't deserve the money they got never mind the money they tried to con out of him. it's easy to say "that would feel disrespectful to the wife i supposedly loved so much" but when your being insulted while your grieving by a vulture relative sometimes you just need to take the trash out and be done with it.

    • @DeepFlamingo
      @DeepFlamingo 7 месяцев назад +5

      You are 100% correct. When I was listening to the story everything surrounding the legal aspects of the story came off as bizarre - this just isn't how civil suits or the court system works. The absolute best he could have done outside of reporting them for attempted fraud like you said is filed a suit for emotional damages because of the attempts to manipulate him so soon after his wifes death and even then no judge is going to overturn the will and just hand $75K to the husband over it. Civil suits primarilly serve the purpose of providing restitution for damages and these people didn't do $75k in damages. He would have to be contesting the will but no where in the story does he indicate that would be his strategy and if he isn't contesting the will then the execution of the will has nothing what-so-ever to do with his emotional distress.
      He doesn't have a case to claim the $75k
      Also one of the brothers allegedly works at a law firm (so presumably a lawyer if he isn't some kind of paralegal or secretary) so he should be aware of how this scam was never going to work. He should also have known that the best way to deal with the police when they went for him would be to cooperate and remain silent and not to run away and yell at the husband.
      Nothing here is consistent with reality. It's a fake story.
