You really don't understand how the wire tracker works. You didn't show it correctly. You hook up the red clip to one end of the wire and that transmits a radio frequency down the wire, then you take the receiver to track it. When the audible tone gets weaker across the wire, that is likely were the break is in the line. Telecom and network techs have been using these tools for decades. It's literally just a radio transmitter and receiver.
