I think that his windmill is a trick. In fact, he doesn't touch the strings with his rignt hand. He makes his chord sound with his left hand, using his little ot ring finger. have a good look at the videos. That's why you will never see him making his famous windmill with barre chords, but always with a classical A or a D played on the bottom of the guitar neck. (sorry for my english, I'm french).
I don't think so. He does pull the strings sometimes with his left hand only as you describe, but the sound is quite different. You can compare the difference of the sound when the pick from his right hand hits the chords versus when he is pulling the chords with this left hand in this section of this video: ruclips.net/video/vwS1tC9Mp00/видео.html. Also he does the windmill not only with the A and D chords, but also with a barred B chord position e.g., ruclips.net/video/Gu9HhYv0C7E/видео.html and also a G chord position (thumb on the E string and 4th or 5th finger on the B and E). From those positions, it would be very difficult to pull the strings with his left hand. And there are a number of examples when he misses the strings with his right hand in a windmill in various concert footage. These mistakes shouldn't happen if he was consistently using his left hand to pull the strings.
I came for Pete’s windmills. I left fulfilled.
That’s probably how Pete invented that move.
He makes it look so easy its harder than it looks
i'd probably be bothered to learn that if it did what i thought it did and lift me into the air like a helicopter
jesus, the dude can windmill pick like a mother!
