Our Word from 36 Questions
i havent even listened to the musical tbh, but i have heard this song and there were no lyrics for it
which is an issue because i cannot comprehend words sung in a song without lyrics
so i just made this for myself (btw this isnt a lyric channel, i just wanted to listen to a song in peace) Кино
It's so chilling to hear that Judith's parents wouldn't even care if she died suddenly. They haven't killed anyone, but gives the same feeling like they did.
Not even just that: they essentially disown her, in her mind. They don't even need to. But she seems to know they would, somehow.
I disagree I think they did care and love her but there way or coping ajd "making the stake taste better" was delusions in any way to handle the loss or a child they created a reali4t were Judith was adopted and is living independent and they set her off to live a happy life one she still living
Something I only noticed just now about this and it hurts: over time there is a NOTICABLE backing vocal harmony, especially in the choruses and pre-choruses. At first it's so scary, uncertain, but the lies and falsely-positive gaslighting crowd up - and eventually, she's already so in tune with the lies, it's like her parents are in her voice, too.
This song is so genuinely sad... it gives me chills, her parents literally messed up her entire life never teaching her lying isn't okay
Don't lie It could literally ruin your life in certain situations

I recommend the musical it’s free on Spotify and it the full 3 parts, it’s a podcast musical so it’s only their voices, I myself though I wouldn’t get into it at all cause I need to see something ur it was sorta like reading a book as I would just imagine everything, like a really good movie!!! im sorry to hear that, hope things get better ^^
i'm so sorry for your loss. take care
Hey dude how is everything now
how are you holding up now?
I'm so sorry..
when i here this song it has a different meaning its basically telling lies will keep you alive but it doesn't matter cause your parents don't care they love you but not to the extent that you think and when your on deaths door it really opens up you eyes to the truth of what's going on

in all of the discussion of this musical ive seen ive never once seen anyone mention the implication in this song that she killed someone? its also never brought up in the musical again and it confuses me.
I thought about this too! I think it was an accident or something tbh
I interpreted it more that Camille and Judith were doing drugs together, and Camille ODed
I thought Camille was there original daughter and Judith was adopted because they implied that they weren’t Judith’s biological parents
@@MoodyDog_757 no that was the lies she was imagining they'd say if she died so their reputation wouldn't involve a dead daughter
Gaslighting: the theme song
"Honesty is the best policy," or so they told me.
"The truth is _always_ better than a lie," she'd tell me. Which never allowed for much _nuance._
Always making it about _their_ understanding and interpretation of events, in the process.
_Their_ inviolable opinions.
...against whose?
her voice is just so satisfying
And soothing
[Verse 1]
When I was a little girl
Like really little, like 8 or so
I was playing in my father's study
A place in the house I wasn't supposed to go
My father fancied himself a sailor
His study was filled with nautical decor
He kept a boat in a bottle on the top of a shelf
And it shattered on the ground when I slammed the door
[Pre-Chorus]
I told my mother everything
I told her I was so, so sorry
She told me, "don't cry
When he comes home tonight
We can make everything okay
This is all we have to say
[Chorus]
"We don't remember a boat in a bottle
It must've fallen off its shelf alone
We know you loved it, we're so sad it's broken
But neither one of us was even home"
And it's our word
Yes, our word
Against his
[Verse 2]
So I hid screw-ups from my father
Made up school awards to please my mom
Whatever made the steak taste better
Whatever kept the waters calm
I was told to keep their secrets
And in turn they'd keep mine
As I got older, I got dumber
I couldn't help but cross the line
[Pre-Chorus]
Three times I nearly wrecked my life
Three times I nearly came to ruin
Three times went crying to my parents
Who said they'd make it go away
Yes, this is all we had to say
[Chorus]
"We never rented a house in Sedona
We didn't see Camille the day she died
We haven't been on our boat in some years now
So we don't care what you found inside"
And it's our word
Yes, our word
It's our word
Yes, our word
Against theirs
[Bridge]
Somebody was paid to make it go away
Everyone was paid to make the problems go away
Doesn't matter who gets screwed, or who is blamed
Or what you need to do to clear your name
An inconvenient truth can be easily erased
[Verse 3]
When I was 26
I was living in New York
I developed some fun habits
Put my white blood cells to work
I remember it so clearly
I was home alone on a Tuesday night
To level out, I'd popped some downers
But couldn't seem to get my mind right
I drew a bath and slipped into it
And suddenly became aware
I couldn't keep my head above water
I took a final gasp of air
[Pre-Chorus]
And as I laid there helplessly
A million different thoughts came to me
I saw my parents hearing the news
"Your only daughter drowned today"
I thought about what they might say
[Chorus]
"Our daughter, Judith?
No, she moved to Austin
She's very happy there, or so we hear
She's always been so goddamned independent
The years go by and now we barely see her"
"Our daughter, Judith?
You must be mistaken
You mean the girl we raised as if our own?
We loved her so much she felt like our child
But eventually we had to send her home"
It'd be their word
Only their word
It'd be their word
Only their word
On its own

what an amazing song. Love the intricacies
I dont get the oart where it goes "but eventually we had to send her home"
There are two things she thinks the parents might say after they hear the news of her death. The first one was their daughter moved away and is not in fact dead. The second one they denied her being their daughter. "We raised her as if our own" suggests they raised her without being related and so they had to send her back to her real family.
idk why I really like this so much-

I am obsessed
With this part 🤩
Everybody is lol
This song hits so hard because it reminds me of my current life and the fact that when cps came they were like “we never rented a house in Sedona” and I just wanted to tell them liars but they were too busy talking about their life and my traumatized disabled backstory that cps didn’t even bother to do her daily house checkup and just left while I was forced TO clean every single part of my room before she came and my mom wanted to help me cause she never that if she did she would throw away my stuff that I didn’t deserve and yelled at me for everything and I was forced to sleep on a fragile one blanket I hated it
The first part of when she broke her fathers boat was so relatable because whenever I would break something in the house that belong to my parents my one parent would have to lie and cover up with for me and I just grew up thinking lying was okay and yet I still don’t know the difference between wrong or right I would do everything I could to hide my dads screw ups and he used to cheat on my mom and because of that my mom forgave him only once but even then we have a crazy witchcraft lady after us trying put spells on us till we die because of what my dad did and it’s been since Covid-19 this happened I’ll do anything to please my mom so everything doesn’t end up being all yelling and threatening instead just normal and peaceful but it’s so hard to when there’s that one thing I do during the day that upsets her my brother is victim to this to and he’s 26 and he’s not allowed to do lots of things either he’s tried of this so am I and we just want to not have built up anger from our parents that we mask and have depression for it both me and my brother have undiagnosed autism because our parents refuse us to get tested because we don’t “have it” but my entire family knows we do my cousin works for kids with autism and our life is just so sad I wish cps could help us again but they won’t come back considering how my parents got away with it.. only one more year Chris then you’ll be 18 I promise.
anyone know the context of the song? I love musicals and only discovered this recently.
sorta, but really only that shes a pathalogical lier trying to get back together with someone who broke ties with her for lying but thats all i got
She is explaining to her husband why she wishes she could change her childhood. Her parents forced her to fake her life and hide dark secrets to please them. She became depressed and eventually unalived herself by accidentally drowning after taking drugs, but was revived. She figured they would be too ashamed to admit it. She moved away to Austin and cut ties with them. She lied to her husband about her identity the day the met because she wanted to start new

Song Explanation:
Judith's family got her accustomed to lying to protect their reputation and not deal with consequences.
When her friend died for one reason or another, and Judith was involved, they lied and possibly paid the cops off so they could get away with it
Later in life, she gets addicted to drugs that give a high, to balance out the high she took other medication that calms you down, this made her fall asleep in the bathtub and almost let herself die
When she was fading out, she realized her parents would just say more lies to cover up her death, and she couldn't let that happen.
She wouldn't be a voice in it if they lied about her dying, it would be "their word on it's own", because she couldn't refute the truth if she were dead.
When they said "our daughter Judith" and so on, these are not the truth, these are what she is imagining would be more lies her parents would say if she died, so they could avoid the negative reputation it would cause them and the consequences of her actions.

Do you think its a real story?🤔🤨
I wouldn't say this one specifically but stuff like this definitely has happened before
Can someone explain this to me?
Basically, Judith's parents raised her and lived by lying to avoid the karma of their actions so they avoided the news about Camile's death saying they weren't even near and said when Judith drowned in the bathtub, the parents said she moved to Austin and heard she was very happy there to conceal their identity a liar for life, it's telling a message to never live off of lying. Hope this helps! It took me a few relistens to get the story down :)
