As a human who was raised in a legalistic Christian home, I am grateful that your children will have the opportunity to explore with critical thinking skills the options of what each person actually understands are beliefs each individual will have. I have also had some gut issues, and have reduced what I eat to those things I cook from scratch. My brother asked yesterday why I don't eat anything I don't cook from scratch, and I told him that I feel so much better when I eat things without food dye and preservatives. It doesn't mean that I can't occasionally eat those things (I did at the family reunion yesterday), but my body is happier with a cleaner diet. Please take care of yourself and get plenty of rest. Harvest season will soon be upon us - I'm going to the local orchard to get strawberries this week - and that will be difficult with an expanding waistline. I need to sweep up the dog hair this morning, and prepare Sunday dinner for my family. I think we are having what my eldest calls spicy chicken today (it contains nutmeg and ginger in the breading) with a green salad. I need to grab some mint to make iced tea (none of us needs extra sugar, and the mint sweetens it enough that I don't add any to my iced tea). I love cooking meals for my family that show that I pay attention when they specifically request something.

I've had crohns disease since I was a young girl so it's all I know. I've had all but one metre of my intestine removed over the years. I also have constant kidney stones, raynauds, arthritis clotting but also near fatal bleeds, aspergers, anemia, short bowel syndrome, extensive venous damage etc etc. Twelve years ago when I was 32 my life long specialists gave me two years at the most to live which was realistic considering my extensive health history. I was unlucky to get such a mass of other illnesses and near fatal complications. I can't even remember how many times I've been resuscitated. I believe that I have not yet accomplished my full purpose so God gave me the miracle of living so far 10 years longer than expected. I already know that you have a complete understanding of what your body needs by how you talk and your other videos and that puts you at an advantage. If you ever want someone to talk to that understands just message me. I wish you all the best. Xx

@@JESUSistheTRUTH-ROBLOX why are you assuming that I'm not walking with the Lord? A positive and supportive Christian would look at my comment and say the Lord is with her and through Him she has been given a miracle of extra years. You make it sound like my illness is because I'm a sinner. Two guys broke into my house this week and I immediately thought that maybe they had a family to feed and they were desperate for money so I asked them if I could help them in some way. So even at a time when I was absolutely terrified my first thought was to help another fellow human. Of course I'm not perfect but my health story is a testimony to those who question if God exists. I think that maybe you need to think about how to talk to others about your belief instead of implying that someone is a sinner and therefore has caused a bad/negative event or situation. You will reach more people with this approach.

Sunday mornings are for coffee and Jessica. I wish we could have a little house with small piece of land. But to have that I will have to put my kid on school and go to work. So for now I garden in containers in my rental house. So far I have been canning all the tomatoes and paste for the whole year. Farmers around me have been very generous with me and the ladies trade my skill with sewing for strawberries and greens or whatever is on season. For the last two winters I had enough produce in storage for my family of three.

I really enjoy hearing your views on religion. I’m a Christian myself, but significantly less intensely, so I find it interesting hearing from very devout and conservative people who embrace being open minded. It’s inspiring how much your faith has provided peace and guidance to you and your family.

We homeschooled in Michigan, when our kids were older they were able to attend our local public school for non-academic classes such as Art and Band. That allowed them to participate in class activities and extracurriculars. They were also involved in our homeschool group so they had the best of both worlds.

Thank you for this Q&A! I really enjoyed your explanation regarding Christian convictions. I was raised in a Pastors home and forced to follow the convictions of my parents but didn’t understand it for myself. As a young adult and young parent I tried to find a balance, like you, and explain to my children why I followed certain things. My children are grown now and we have all grown in our own walk with the Lord. We are very close and talk about everything. I cherish that!

I have to let you know how much I enjoy your podcasts. I always feel positive and do more to make myself and my husband more sufficient from listening to your ideas. I also appreciate how you give your children a say in some of their decisions in life, but I also like how they are expected to do their share of chores in your family core. That practice has gone to the wayside for so many family settings and children don’t learn responsibility and appreciation because of it. I started listening to a podcast that I subscribed and then unsubscribed to all in the same week. They have a homesteading podcast, but all I got out of it was a feeling of depression and fear. All that was talked about was how terrible the state of the country is in and how we are going to perish if you don’t have 2 years of stock pile of food and necessities. I don’t enjoy listening to that because, if you turn on the tv, you can hear similar talk. I enjoy listening to podcasts because it lets me be selective as to what I watch. Please keep up the great work, good luck with number 8 and your family is beautiful!

My children have also complained about how much school work I'm asking them to do. It's typically 1-1.5 hours. We've talked about how long a normal school day lasts vs what they're being asked to do. We also talk about homework they would be expected to complete in the evenings. One of our major reasons for continuing to homeschool is that my husband is a teacher and once he gets home around 3:30-4:00, the evenings are family time. We don't have to waste hours doing homework because our school work is done before he gets home.

My son has ulcerative colitis, a relative of your Crohn’s disease. He maintains a very strict regimen and essentially, eats no “white” food, I.e., flour, refined sugar, rice, potato, bread, pasta, etc. Basically, he eats protein and vegetables. His UC remains in remission. I so admire his adherence to his diet, it is difficult at times. He is fortunate that his lovely wife cooks to his needs, using for example, honey as sweetener, almond flour, etc. it was interesting to hear of your family’s dietary needs. It is not easy but you seem to juggle it well.

Jessica you are a gift to all of us. I could listen all day. Your kids are so beautiful and kind. In another video you had mentioned how hurt you were by some comments and I thought how could anyone say or be mean to you, you are so kind. In all honesty social media has been the downside of the world, well there are some great aspects like videos from you, but for the most part the internet trolls who bully etc our children and even adults is terrible. I was lucky to raise my daughter before the internet, but I worry about my grandchildren. Don't get me wrong I live the internet for the most part. I am an avid cross stitcher and have found a whole world of fellow stitchers where we can share our stitching. Do you think your kids might like to stitch, I would be more than happy to send some supplies for you and the children.......anyways keep doing what you are doing, we love you xo

My son is 2 and has fpies with eggs! It was very scary. We didn’t find out until we started solids. Before we started solids he had really bad eczema and rashes on my face and I took him to the doctor and no one could help us but prescribe steroid cream which isn’t a long term solution. Once he started solids and reacted that way it then clicked in my head that the eggs I was eating everyday was passing through my milk. I felt terrible that he suffered 8 months before I cut eggs and his skin went to normal. We are praying by the time he’s 3 (which is when they said he should out grow it) that he’ll be able to eat eggs. His condition has really benefited the health of our family. We eat out less and less processed food because of it.

I have healed from mild colitis by eliminating certain foods including FODMAP ones. I am so grateful to have come off two medications in my early fifties. A great video. Your explanation on your convictions about head covering was wonderful. The Lord was leading, pushing, shoving me, lol, to wear only dresses or skirts many years ago, and about 7 or 8 years ago I finally decided to go "cold turkey ", and haven't looked back. However, for several years when asked why I dressed this way, which was often, I would say "they're more comfortable, they're cooler....", etc. Now I'm mature enough to say it was a conviction of the Lord.

Everyone MUST come to their own convictions on their own in order for Free Will to take place. Your ideas are like mine and I think giving your children the ability to make decisions, how to discern importance, how to honor God is VITAL when they are finally on their own. You can memorize math equations and later forget them, but if you work at solving a math problem presented in everyday situations, you learn for life. Agriculture and home economics classes in school should be the place to learn the most about math. We have gotten to a place that no one knows the steps to discern truth and wisdom. Your are making a wonderful childhood for your children - they have a loving and wise Mother!

I love your approach to your beliefs and your children. My mom forced me into her beliefs and it drove me away. Gradually coming back on my own but in a different way than I was raised which I feel is okay.

Q for future Q&A: What are your thoughts on canning conventional peaches (and other non-organic, in-season, bulk produce)? The cost of organic peaches is too high for me to consider canning but I'd really like to put up more fruit.

Love the Chron’s information. My husband had battled it for 20 years and I have been trying to transition into a cleaner diet but my husband had to stay on clear liquids for months at a time because he couldn’t handle any solid foods not even soups, his tract was so inflamed no texture could pass. Now any broths seem to be out of the question. I have been making bone broths for soups in order to sneak in the added support. Any recipes would be of great help to me. Thanks

I have Crohn’s myself and sometimes the bone broth is all I can do. You might be able to purée some soups and strain them for him to drink. And I know every body is different, especially Crohn’s bodies, but I found going on the AIP diet (autoimmune protocol) and avoiding preservatives helped me out. I’m making most everything from scratch now, but it’s working for me. Praying for you both 🙏

We will never enroll our children in public school but we are open to private school for our 11 year old son. He has always been a difficult child to homeschool. He has behavioral issues that affect his education. He won't do his work and doesn't care about our consequences. I think, however, that he seems to care a lot about what his peers think of him, so in a classroom environment he'll probably straighten up and do his work. This child! 😅 Lord have Mercy. It has been a struggle.
About daughters and modesty - I didn't have to force anything, they watched and they followed. Young girls naturally want to be like their mother.
About dating - we only allow courting in our family. Therefore they need to be old enough and they need to be supervised.

That sounds just like my daughter… she has been wanting to go to public school like her friends and I am not ok with the idea . Private school is pet expensive here.. momming is hard .

This has nothing to do with the video, I just grabbed one from your lineup because I wanted to tell you about a RUclips channel in case you aren't already aware of it. Not sure how much time you have to watch videos, but Heidi at Rain Country has some incredibly useful information that you may find helpful (or may already know). Today I watched "how to grow your own calcium" and immediately thought of your dairy-free family, and there is a LONG list of foods that contain calcium (which you may already know) including those nuts you use to make nut milk! But lots of things I never realized, like squash & parsnips & rhubarb & beans (both green & dried). She has video series on a number of other topics too, as well as videos that aren't part of a series. It's all just so down to earth & budget friendly...and she starts her videos with a bit of praise and ends them with a blessing & a Bible verse, which is really nice too.

Have you ever filled garden beds with limbs, sticks, leaves, etc. before adding soil? It reduces the amount of soil you need and retains moisture as well as providing nutrition for the plants as these items break down. It is an adaptation of a huglkultur bed from permaculture. A google search of that term will give you more info than you could ever want. It works well for us and I thought was worth mentioning. Blessings!

Thank you for this video. Your honesty and perspectives are refreshing. I pray you have a healthy pregnancy. I once wanted 8 kids, God gave me twins to start and it dropped to four. We joke that he gave us them to prepare for #3 which is where we stopped. All boys and I love them dearly but I'm always tired! LOL

What resources did you study to help you heal? I have diverticulitis and Gerd. I haven’t done a deep dive yet. However, I feel like one book contradicts another. I’ve heard of GAPS. I am not vegetarian but do not like meat.

Nice to meet you! I’m Kari and my oldest is like yours in that he has anaphylaxis for ALL nuts (and pet saliva, stools and their urine). My middle has a gluten allergy and my youngest has Hashimotos.
I also have a gluten issue but my main thing is I went off my antidepressants for the same reasons you quit medicine. You can just tell when medicine begins to mess with your body & mind. I think it matters what we eat!
I’m glad someone mentioned you in another RUclipsr’s video!!
I don’t have a homestead (I’d call it a baby garden 🤣) but I am trying to do the homeschool thing again bc I live in Virginia where they’re integrating the trans stuff (that I surely don’t want any of my kids to learn).. so, I kind of don’t have a choice. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Not a hater just not what my family and I believe.
I haven’t watched the whole video but I’ve seen enough to subscribe!
I can’t wait to meet your family and see what you guys get into! ✌🏻♥️🙏🏻

Love your videos. Thank you for sharing. I do love the way that you let your girls make the decision of about wearing dresses when their older just like you said they really don't have the understanding and they can just be kids. I was just wondering with your raised bed being metal are they holding heat more then a wooden bed would cause it to dry out quicker and more often.
