I have this bike, and its amazing. I bought it with 24.000 miles on it, and it just had the 25.000 big oil change and velves etc. I just use it for longer distances, and its amazing. I hope i can use this bike for many more years
I've ridden this bike in the UK, it's a great machine. The screen is adjustable with one hand while on the move but I still got buffeting from it. The seat height is also adjustable so suits quite a range of riders. A great fun to ride lightweight tourer in my opinion.
So, did you notice vibrations after 65mph in foot pegs? Can you fit a full-face helmet in luggage? Is the seat adj? I am tall. Windscreen good protection? Looks small. TPMS on tires? Good touring question. How’s the rear brakes? Are they linked like the Tenere? Lots of questions that should have been answered in a vid review. Even if the part 2 answering these were after the ride back to OC.
@@mephistopheles5327 You best be 6 feet tall for the Versys but great engine from Kawasaki, at 5'10" I opted for the Tracer. No drama after 12k miles this year.
I've ridden the older FJ-09 a few time at Yamaha demo days, it's a fantastic machine. The throttle isn't an on off switch like the FZ-09, it puzzles me why Yamaha can't get it right on that bike. The only reason I don't have one is because I'm still paying for my GSX-R600.
Triumph could make a great tall-rider sporty tourer like this - but unfortunately don't. The Tiger might be fine, but it is an ADV and this is pure road.
Awesome bike and meaningful improvements to my FJ09. I do wish it came without the bags - I opted for the SHAD sidecases that are popular for the FJ09 mount due to their (relatively) low price, styling that works beautifully with the bike, reasonably unobtrusive mount hardware and ability to easily swallow full size helmets.
Great video. Good to see John get more scoops like this. About the bike, everything sounds good, but it's high time they learn what Honda learned 25 years ago, namely how to integrate saddle bags so they don't look like bulbuous tumors hanging off the side of the bike. (ex. Goldwing, PC800, ST1300, Helix...) Everyone else is happy to just tack them on. Yamaha is playing in the big league now, it's time to step up, in that regard. I actually went over and read the article. Thanks Kevin, for taking down some of the spam and making the site more usable. Nice job, Yamaha, providing a center stand AND the under-slung exhaust. Keep 'em coming! By the way, how did motorcycle.com snag John from the classical print mags?
Michael Palmer I own a 2015 fjr13000 and I can't fit me helmet in those bags. No way at all unless small helmet. But they are nice size bags. No complaints.
Actually you can very easily disengage the TCS albeit you have to do this every time you start the engine since the default is TCS ON but yeah even with some TKC 70 mounted it won't win any baja races.
From an off-roading perspective it is the same as previous FJ-09. Gravel roads not a problem as long as potholes don't get too big. People do fit them with knobbies and take them off pavement...not ideal but not impossible. See story below for a better idea. www.fj-09.org/thread/7003/arctic-ocean-back
I find written reviews tend to be more informative than the youtube videos. It's also a different skill set. Still, I'm not sure using youtube to tease your written review is going to cut it in an age of short attention spans and infotainment. Good luck.
Their presenters, excellent writers though they may be, are generally not the the most personable in the videos. Compare to Zack and Ari, or Ryan FortNine, etc. for example on how it's done.
Yeah, it's definitely a different skill set and a lot of older print journos are struggling with new media. Fortnine's production values are ridiculous, and his videos are great to watch, although I'm not sure they actually tell you as much about the bikes. It's the same with 44 Teeth and to a lesser extent Zack and Ari (bike review videos more so than their "Favourites and Fails" or daily ride "vlogs"). A higher focus on entertainment
@@orangelion03 Burns, IMHO, is one of the most personable, entertaining writers in motorcycle journalism but you'd never guess it from his videos. Bet he hates doing them.
I’d say this video was lackluster. Why not save the 3:00 and just say go to the site to read the review? please ride back and share!!! Some of us are living vicariously through you.
He did. Check it out: www.motorcycle.com/manufacturer/yamaha/2019-yamaha-tracer-900-gt-first-long-ride-review.html
Incredible scenery up there. Great bike
If it were me it would be a no brainer, ride it home.
Wow what a beautiful place. Really eye popping in 1080p too. Lovely. Nice bike too!

I love how casual he is lol
Buy one y'all! Great bike!
Nice bike.. owner of a Honda ST1300 and want one of these now..
It's July 2018, why would it be a 2019 model?
I vote the travel-log and ride the puppy back.

No tpms , and you will need a aftermarket screen. Seat is adjustable. No linked brakes. Same rear brakes as mt09.
chris cis for that price(12,999) i rather get Versys 1000. better for touring.

Cool Bike
I have a sneaking suspicion that this is my next motorcycle.

Same
Tiger 800 just marginally better in my opinion... I might be biased as I'm a British Triumph owner😅!!!

I want one in all black please
So flying to try out a bike is ok. Buying an action camera to give a good rider view is out of the question...?
Nice road perfect for bikers

Moto Mike Chad cases are NOT waterproof compared to the Yamaha factory panniers. You get what you pay for.
Robert Polkamp I've taken mine through terential downpours with no ill effects whatsoever.
@@steelbraided My Chad top case collected water like a rain guage..
Get the Tracer 900. No bags, no TFT, no cruise control, no heated grips.
Good looking bike
Like it,I’d love it if it were shaft drive.
Mate, stop honking the horn. We wanna hear the sound of the bike in a drive by.
Not a single piece of information in this review that is not in the manufacturer's brochure.

Will the bags fit a full face helmet?
Trevor Champney no...my son has FJ09 same bags. Cannot hold a full face helmet
Thanks
Trevor Champney no
I saw another review that said it will take the fjr bags which will hold a full size helmet. You just have to pay for the extra bags.
Michael Palmer I own a 2015 fjr13000 and I can't fit me helmet in those bags. No way at all unless small helmet. But they are nice size bags. No complaints.
What is the horsepower and torque?
JEB ENOUGH to get you in trouble with local LE... governed at 120 but gets there in a big hurry sometimes on the rear wheel only.
Tracer or vstrom xT?
V-strom XT is likely much better if you get in the dirt but that Tracer has it all over the vstrom on the tarmac. Tastes vary.
I'm really surprised Yamaha USA actually brings this bike to US ... but still no MT-10SP
Why? The Sp is a hooligan bike, and this is a Tourer. Its a no brainer.
I think this bike will have much broader appeal than the MT-10SP. In any case I'm glad they did, but why not bring both?
How big's the gas tank?
camp51 1gallon larger than an mt09 4.1 gallons total
No, it is 4.8 gallons, same as all Tracers since 2015.
Does this bike have off-road capability?
I wouldn’t, exhaust is very low and you cannot disengage TCS.
