Zayn was asked if he wanted to contribute a song for the 50 Shades Darker soundtrack. He asked Jack Antonoff who contributed the music and who suggested he ask Taylor if she'd like to collaborate too. Taylor had already heard Jack's music and loved it and quickly agreed on the collaboration. She wrote the lyrics and melody and sang the duet with Zayn. This wasn't Zayn's song but, it was his project. He was the impetus for the collab.
... What? Taylor had been working with Jack Antonoff 2 years before this song came out in 2016 on 1989 tracks from at least 2014.
While it may have been a Zayn project...he doesn't even write on the song... So no. He didn't write verses or anything like that.
@@emmavink Yes, that's what I said. I just made a point of clarifying the misinformation that existed out there at one time that some people still believe. There was a lot of confusion about why Zayn was being congratulated in interviews for this song when it first came out, that misled people into believing he'd written it. The reason they were congratulating HIM and he accepted those congratulations is because, initially, the producers of 50 shades came to HIM. Therefore it was his project that he brought to Jack and Taylor, to see if they were interested in collaborating. Jack wrote the music. Taylor wrote the melody and lyrics. Zayn simply sang on it.
@@madelinewise8692 Just to be clear, you said in 2016 that Taylor had already "heard" Jack's music and loved it. She hadn't just "heard" Jack's music by 2016... She'd been making music with Jack for two full years before Zayn suggested they all work together on I Don't Wanna Live Forever.
@@emmavink You're misunderstanding. I was referring to the fact that Taylor had already heard the music Jack was working on for Zayn and liked it. Of course she knew Jack from way before. She'd heard the music for what would eventually become I Don't Wanna Live Forever, because Jack had played it for her while she was in studio with him working on her own stuff with him. They never performed this song live together but both performed it alone. Taylor´s performance at Super Saturday Night concert is amazing and has some pretty powerful vocals.

she's done it live on the Super Saturday Night concert (pre -- Super Bowl thing from DirecTV) but without him. When she does duets (like End Game) she usually only does her part of the lyrics when she's live. For this one, though, she's the writer with Jack Antonoff and Sam Dew. Zayn was asked for a song for 50 Shades Darker; he got Taylor to write it (you really can tell from the one note melody line the rises at the end --- classic Swift). I had to look up Sam Dew ---- embarrassed after, his music is good! but not her usual stuff. The video was almost a year before Reputation came out. Also, aside from the music, at that time, Zayn was in a relationship with Gigi Hadid, model and Taylor's friend. Taylor and Zayn had been acquainted for several years.
My favorite features of zayn of all time are this one with taylor, dusk till dawn with sia and wRoNg with kehlani . Pure art tbh

Funny thing is every time I’ve seen Taylor Live this song has been the secret song. If you want to hear Taylor sing this solo and very spiteful I highly recommend listening to it live Eras Tour from Chicago. This song is pre-Reputation. So this song is probably going to be re-recorded for Rep TV. Because this is one of Taylor’s favorites.
Taylor's and Matty's relationship had recently ended during that part of the tour. The look on her face as she sang the lyric "Did I dodge a bullet or did I lose the love of my life?" was so heartbreaking. I wish I could unsee it. She seemed in pain. We didn't know why back then. She really could do it with a broken heart but the pain, anger and sadness on her face was evident during that song.
This song screams Taylor. The melody, the turns of phrase, it's also right in the spot where it's effortless for her. Zayn is an impressive vocalist and the harmonies are beautiful ❤️

Actually zayn never performed any of his songs from his album after 2016 . He performed few for his debut album and this year too fro his new album RUTS . But he has an acoustic version of the song it's soooo beautiful.

Zayn was asked who he wants to be with him on this song and he chose Taylor, after he wrote the lyrics. Then it was sent to Taylor who liked the song immediately and changed some lyrics to it. Zayn spoke about this in the radio. Im so glad they got to work together on such an amazing song ❤ their voices really fit with each other 😍

Zayn did no writing on the song. What you're saying is untrue. Taylor, Jack, and Sam wrote the song. Jack produced it.
If he wrote so much as one line, he would have writers credit. Taylor is very generous in giving credit in her songs. He is not in the credits at all.

Why would he do that considering the publishing revenue this song has generated? I think Zayn writes great songs but this isn’t one of them. The lyrics and melody are pure Taylor in sound and structure.
