Tell your dad I said he has, "The Touch" when it comes to repair fabrication work. Well done ! Fitting curved work like that isn't easy. Eric in Kissimmee
Great job. Your dad seems like a bad ass. I like how he puts up with the camera. : ) I probably would've just bought a new primary case on Ebay and called it a day. But I'm lazy and I don't have the proper tools (or skills) to pull off this job.
I was raised in a body shop so we have done repairs like this before. You guys did a great job. And I love the videos and you are a beautiful young woman keep up the good work
Your dads a genius, a true craftsman. He probly knows Keenan Tatro, he does the older harleys as well. Your a lucky girl and your beautiful. Honored to watch your videos...love that shovel.
Your dad is handier than a pocket in a shirt. Really Excellent job on the repair, turned out nice and saved some money. Love your dad's art work and the humor in it. Safe travels. Peace ✌.
Soak up EVERYTHING you see your dad do or gives you advice on...... the opportunity to spend time like that with your dad is priceless....... great video....!!!!!
If you go to your home page at the top right corner and click on the hamburger bar you know the three little dots .then scroll down to WATCH ON TV . you can watch your content on TV . and so can your subscribers . that's a great patch job .on the primary .
So your Dad is old school awesome!! Such a pleasure to watch someone fix rather than replace . Learned a lot from guys like him when I started work in the late 70,s 👍
That was an education on "how to" - thanks for posting. Fixing and repairing things is the way to go - creates a unique bike and warrants more respect than being a mere "bolt on boy" (girl) which takes no skill and anyone can do. Hope you keep this ethos for other repairs on this Evo 😎.
Your Dad is like a Zen master and you are Grasshopper the initiate...great working team, fine attention to detail...that primary cover is unique...ride with pride ✌
I enjoyed seeing you work with your Dad, and that no obstacle is an obstacle in his persistence in making the patch fir properly. - Bravo ! Tomorrow - Will drain the 10W40 out, Open the front left of the Engine Case to examine a few things, reassemble and replenish with 10W50. Im looking forward to see you pilot your new bike - don't forget to pop the dent out of the tank ! Hey Protect your eyes please !
That was the most amazing patch job I have seen! watching your dad work that patch in just vibes with the perfectionist side of me. The talent and knowledge is awesome I wish I'd had a mentor like him when I started learning to work on bikes. you are very blessed.
I really loved watching this build series. It’s just about possibly one of my favorites that I’ve ever seen on RUclips. It’s great seeing that bike restored and back on the road and her dad working on it with her. I definitely would much rather see those patches and stuff from our father on it said having a brand new primary cover that is really cool looks good works good sure it’s not the shiniest thing in the world but you can see there’s love in that and that you can’t replace and if she keeps that bike she’ll be able to look at those things and remember her father put his work and his time and love into it and that’s priceless and there’s nothing more beautiful than that
My respect to my father, it is worth a lot when a person is experienced in the right things, I wish him a long life and health, so that he lives to the joy of his loved ones! Thanks for the video, you are amazing. Привет с Кубани, Юга страны)

Great Stuff Miss Red!! That's so very cool that you and your Dad hang out together and you both share the "In The Wind" disorder, like so many of us! :-)) Enjoy all the time you get to spend with him!! Keep the shiny side up! jp
This is why I like old bikes, you would never have all this good times doing a fun project with a new bike. I love machining parts for my Sturgis on my lathe. Kudoos on driving a proper stick shift !
Thumbs up for fixing it old school way! 👍 We always used to fix our own stuff up because A; good used parts just weren't out there, and B; new stuff was expensive. C; IF your H-D dealer could and would order it, the wait was forever. Swap meets were the source for used parts back in those dark prehistoric days before the internet, and usually a damn good time to boot! Today, there's Ebay! Say what ya will, but it does make finding good used parts easy, fast and cheap! And for better or worse, time is money.
We fix our stuff for the same reasons! EBay usually takes at least 3 weeks for things to arrive IF I can find what I need for a decent price. There seems to be a lot more for used hd parts available in the US, not so much around me. Plus, I don’t care for making the dyna pretty; I care for making it legal! The shovel is my pretty bike lol.
Good vid, only recommendation I'd have for that patch would be to make an oval patch instead of a rectangle, sharp corners the the 90 degree corners of the rectangle patch will be stress risers and have a higher risk of developing cracks than an oval patch would. Thats not a high stress part tho, so shouldn't be a problem.
Awesome to finally see the Master at work! IDK that about the sanding until your Dad said that, very interesting little tidbit there, thank you Sir for that information. Patch came out great RED/Janis, i don't even think people will even notice that it has been patched. Best of luck to you and your Dad on the rebuild..
It's funny your dad has the same taste in foot wear as mine did . Love the flip flops . I do the same thing as well . You could always paint the primary cover semi gloss black . So people don't see it as easy . If you fill the old gas tank with water when you freeze it . It will push the dents out some . Enjoy your self

I just found your site, I am giving love to a 93 wideglide that was rode hard and not loved by her previous owner. I will be watching your channel a lot.
This my dear Red Rider brought back memories . My new bride and i towed my 1987 evo decker to Florida in April 98 for a three week tour of the sunshine state .Well about a week in we were in Naples and i seen oil running down the outside of the primary cover so since i was 2000 kms from home i took the bike to the Harley dealer in Naples . A grand experience , they took my bike right in and found for some strange reason the jack shaft on the starter punched a hole in the primary cover, they gave me two options order a new cover that happened to be in Chicago for somewhere around 300 US or send it up the road to a welding shop to get it repaired the later was chosen. if i can recall we where out of there and on our merry way for around 100 US .Bare with me that was 24 years ago , that repair rode around with me for 9 more years until i bought my 2007 Ultra . All the best and safe riding . Bob Jones P.S. Your father does stellar work . Later B
Thank you for the video! It must be great to work with your dad , observing and learning from a master builder would be a dream come true for many people... I think you can learn Tig wielding EASY and wield ing that Patch with a torch paste and aluminum rod with thart fine fit you wouldn't see the fix .
I have a 94 fxstc been re wiring by myself for awhile now great to see the work y'all do together, enjoy your video's and the way you take care of you bikes. Keep up the great work Red!
Hey i been doing stuff like this for 49 years.. but i make the patch 1st then scribe the case, cut the cover to fit the patch, same results just a little less work. excellent work btw. You dad's right up there with the best of them. I been tig welding when needed for 35 years. And why on earth would i not like you?
I'm impressed, Red; really, great job guys! That's the kind of thing that gives a bike character. Yeah, I like it that you're calling it your road warrior ! Your patch looks great, totally functional, very nice job indeed. That's going to save you a bunch of money on a new primary cover. Thanks for allowing me to watch over your shoulder; I would not have thought that 'patching' that hole would be possible; again, I'm very impressed. marcus

Watching you guys fab that repair was awesome. Didn't know about the contamination from the belt sander. Great shared knowledge. I like that it has that repair you did with your dad and would keep it. Cool memory. I'm really enjoying your content. Blessings from the states 👍
I've never done this before but I've been a welder for over 30yrs. Wouldn't you want to leave a gap all the way around your fit so when you weld it then grind it smooth you will still have some weld on it.. If not when you grind it smooth its just going to break or Crack. By the way you guys kick ass I learn so much. Thanks.
Thanks for watching! Normally yes you would leave room for weld, but we weren’t trying to get fancy we were just trying to get it fixed for cheap. It really just needs to be replaced.

Very co0L you get the time with your Dad especially on the things you both ♡2Do! When I pull one of those hex head factory bolts out I tend to replace them with stainless steel fastners. Might want to use just a speck of antisieze on the threads so they dont gaul in the aluminum. Some of the stainless steel fastners are soft cheap stuff---want a good allen wrench to use on them. Nice patch. Much less expensive than going with a belt drive & dry clutch. I typed this kinda slow so you can read it quickly.
Red, lots of👍🙋♀️ to you for being so on hands girl. You get'r done always and you do your best. Your Dad also did a "Fit to the Tee" great JOB👌 Ride Safe & You got it going Red Rider🙂
You are a very forgiving person. After all the work of fitting that patch that you and your Dad did, all they did was weld it on the inside of the cover. Yeah, I'm angry about the callous disregard shown by the welding shop, crap job! They also used too much weld for that, I suspect that they are an industrial welding shop with little regard for the finer details, hope they didn't warp the cover with all that weld.

Me too Dave!! 👍👍

Should get somebody to airbrush a band-aid on the patch, nice repair, I wish I lived next door to your dad!
Dang red. I wouldn’t have been happy with that ten dollar boat patch. Cast is a bear to weld but those guys did the “hurryup” job.
I paid for the “ hurry up” job… under $45 US to get it done, so I’m happy! Don’t need to look pretty, just needs to work.
Blow and go!

Great job. Kudos to your dad.

A used 1, $50 tops at a chopper shop. But, hey, some people like doing this stuff. Whatever gets you down the road.
Very cool, I love to see fixes like this. It gives the bike character! Seems like you're learning a lot from your father, I think that is awesome.
