MAZDA CX-50 AWD roller and slip test note: The CX-50 will need the more aggressive Mi-Drive Off-road mode to escape some slippery situations! There is no need to use the TCS OFF unless you want way more momentum, but here we want to preserve our rollers! Off-road mode is impressive, but we got mixed-up results on those 3-wheel slip tests. Even an AWD warning. Some systems are least resistant to heat and fall into "safe" mode early. Mazda has a good AWD system, but if it tries too much will disconnect, but the CX-50 will try more than the others like the CX-5, Cx-3, and CX-9.

I'm a big fan of the new look. The SUV looks awesome. But Mazda needs to update the transmission to 8 speeds.

For what it cost is really good. Off course you won't climb rocks, but snow, sand or light offroad is perfect.

Very surprising as previous Mazda tests with off road mode did well. I didn’t see the failing conditions tested with TCS off. In those previous Mazdas, that truly unlocked better performance.

@@CarQuestion I see you posted your reasoning for no TCS now, but what I’ve seen with other tests is that no TCS doesn’t actually allow wheels to slip more. Mazda somehow makes it that more torque goes to the wheels that have traction.

​@@bt5252 we did not get a better results with TCS off in a way that for this test, it's not momentum that you need but to get a system that will give you more traction where you need it, not spinning at over 50kmh.... cause this is like ice.

3 wheel test takes all weight off the 1 not on a roller, if you shim would have gotten a different result. Unless you think the cx-50 is suppose to rock climb.

Can some of the test shown be used? It looked like the vehicle had slipped off the side of the rollers and gripped on to the roller frame…

Yeah I feel the same way. The device would be great if it also had a bumper on the side with another roller on it to stop the vehicle from sliding off.

@@steve8803 I've seen TFL videos of Subaru's system, the system itself is good, but the CVT over heats really quickly. Truly for off road the best is the traditional torque converter AT.

@M My friend had an outback and everything was ok until cvt overheated at which point he was stranded.
He got out eventually with a help of Tundra but his cvt became noisy and had strange vibrations during acceleration.
Dealerships said it was normal.
None of these cars are meant for any serious off-road specially with cvt.
Subaru is fugly on both, inside and outside. Coworker has an Ascent with plastic wood in top trim that rattles when cold. They look dorky on outside specially the wilderness edition and very plasticy and cheap on the inside. After q5, x3 I couldn't even look at subaru, on the other hand mazda looked much more upscale. You want offroad get a truck or 4runner, everything else is a joke.

Mazda makes great sports cars but that's about it. Have you guys checked out the new TrailSport trims from Honda yet? They upped their game for off roading to compete with Subaru.

Meridian wouldn't hold a candle to the Outback Wilderness. OBW has actual ground clearance, enhanced AWD, skid plates, and a few other goodies. Meridian is decent tires and a hood graphic...

@Jericho Santos that's not true. Outback has a decent towing capacity, and I see them all around where I live with different sorts of trailers. Some may not like how it feels, but that doesn't mean it can't do it. Either way, there's a vehicle out there for everyone.

Il y a pire sur le marché, de plus c'est comme si nous simulons une situation EXTREME de dérapage sans possibilité de traction alors qu'en réalité un pneus peu souvent obtenir de la traction simplement avec un mouvement de 1 cm. Mazda et parti de loin et maintenant c'est pas dutout mauvais
