I was lucky enough as an Irish teenager to visit Zimbabwe in the late 90s. As you can imagine, for someone like me who had no exposure to a different country nevermind any direct connection to Africa, it was quite a unique experience. I believe I’d have gotten a great and authentic experience, my aunt is a nun and had lived there for 20 years at that stage and was completely fluent Ndebele, much to the shock of locals. I’ll never forget being introduced to the music of Oliver at the time and have been listening ever since. As a random Irish person I feel like I have my own small personal connection to Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 ❤

When I was a single mum in my 30s newly relocated with my son to Kenya I used to blast OMS music in the car. I installed a dvd stereo I the car after I returned from a visit to Harare and brought home several of Olivers music CDs. I even visited his music studio in Harare. It was part of my work evaluating a film and video project. That was one of the most impactful visits of my career. Thank you Oliver Mtukudzi for being my friend. For your comforting inspiring uplifting music and spiritual messaging. You have no idea what a comfort you were to me abd now my son when he comes home to visit wants me to play OMS music and another legend Cessaria Evora. These were my companions still are today.
