I hate reballing . For folk out there who haven't done this, it looks 10x easier than it is. I don't use stencil's personally I do them manually ball by ball as the paste can be messy and end up uneven. The larger the chip the more difficult it is. Takes years of experience to master. Nice job Alex

You could probably throw something together, but it seems like a waste of time and there is no chance of winding up with uniform sized solder balls. Id be interested in hearing how they do this though, I'm not trying to attack them, I simply cannot see how that would work?? If there is one thing I hate is having to redo a job I have already done. There is a right way and a wrong way of doing something, I always try to stick with the right way. Having the proper tools, equipment and knowledge makes things so much easier.

The key is to don’t be the first to install update and don’t install betas, especially firmware! Only use software/firmware that has been publicly available for at least 1 month. Will save you a lot of problems. (I am a firmware engineer btw)
For my work laptop there are rules for certifications where you have to run the latest firmware to be sure you have the latest security updates. Also for the software your running on the laptop.

Hello sir , I been awesome to see you back in posting again , when I first started my very first company was a security company that here in Miami I didn’t have any kids will I did have one but that’s was my first baby mom with this company it was my first wife 6 years later my first princess was born and working double shift every day it was hard where I had to take fast naps at work yes me being the owner I can just walk away when I wanted to but that’s why the producers pay you for to be there ! It’s hard when your the bread feeder but I also know your wife she’s also a hard worker and she can’t wait to get back into action that’s ok sir just relax you will always be my hero !
Totally agree with the "If it ain't broke don't fix it" modo . I built my pc over a year ago (13900K and 4090) haven't had any issues why? Most likely cause after building it I haven't tried any bios updates or unpluging and repluging the GPU.

If the firmware is issued by the company and the laptop is under warranty i dont see why not. In the gaming laptops firmware updates usually fix high temps that came with the original firmware. Also win updates or linux offer those updates automatically. More likely he used a custom firmware that unlocks bios settings or unlock gpu clocks
Install Windows Update manager. It’s freeware and it gives you complete control of what updates you install or choose not to install. You can also hide selected updates. Never install BIOS/Firmware using windows update, always go to the board manufacturer instead. I have it on all my PCs and have been using it for several years, it’s great.
I have an OLED screen that has a white area, where the flex is disconnected from the glass. The OLED itself works properly if the ribbon is pressed on the glass. Do we have ways to solder the ribbon back onto the glass itself? I tried resoldering it, the lines disappear, but it doesn't stick and nothing happens to the OLED. I think you might have an idea as to what solder could be used by any chance? Knowing it can work normally if bound back to the glass and seeing it show a normal image if pressed looks like it's salvageable.
I had to replace a PLA chip in my 10” Meade LX telescope. I didn’t know what It was, so I looked it up. It is a Programmable Logic Array chip that is programmed to connect the pins a certain way for how it is utilized. Luckily, it was a socketed chip. It was rare, but I found a seller. I had to buy 2 though. I didn’t know if it would work not knowing if it would be programmed by the software. I was glad that it worked and got my telescope going again. I found out that the Commodore 64 uses a PLA chip that allows it to change the memory mapping.
The PLA section of the chip must be programmed every time it's powered on, so this is done by your host CPU software when your device boots up. Some PLAs have their own flash that contain the programming and does it by itself. You got lucky this one was not one of those. Glad you made it, cheers.
For eventual Win 11 compatibility last week I had to update my 4 year old bios. It updated but bricked the windows boot sequence. Thankfully I had a c drive backup but jeez, it shouldn’t be so error prone.

I don't. My only alternative would have been to order a new chip and wait three weeks for it to arrive. Those chips do not usually fail on ASUS laptops as mentioned in the video.
As well as when the update has a new feature that you can't live without, as Alex mentioned, another reason is when the update fixes a problem that you can't live with.
I like acer laptops. Their caps are well placed to avoid any chip damage. I fixed acer laptops and i've never seen a broken chip. Also the hinges are tough compared to lenovo and asus.

Wonder if this laptop has an Intel CPU, and it’s one of the questionable ones. Now I don’t know of the versions for laptops has the same problem as their desktop counterparts. However this could have been a deciding factor in trying to update the BIOS. Or could just a company putting a kill switch in somewhere to make someone buy a new one. 🤷 Yes that is speculation and tinfoil hat thought there. 🙃

If bios and firmware updates are forced through WU then it is quite difficult to avoid them..

BIOS should always be updated via the manufacturers firmware management app it has nothing to do with Microsoft.

How do you find empty pads on the boards where components are missing? So many empty pads look like they could have originally been components

Just FYI updating your BIOS cannot effect a PC physically in any way. In other words, the fault on this laptop had nothign to do with BIOS updates.
Unless it was a non standard custom BIOS for overclocking and it over-voltaged/over-heated something.
