I would say the tracker is a last resort. I would debate that the police would be all that enthusiastic to follow up any incidence that required any co-ordination to locate a tracked vehicle. That starter inhibitor switch is a good addition, although the switch you get with it is crap and requires throwing a great distance, use the leads but get hold of an Arcolectric or something similar. They eventually jam, by going over centre because they are cheap shit. Another option is a locking pedal box, which you may want to cover in a further instalment. I have one on my Puma which will certainly slow up any potential theft attempt. Good video as usual.

My son had his stolen the thief drove it of with the pedal box on luckily he had a true tracker installed the police were straight on it and caught the thief 2 miles down the road he was on his knees sawing through the brake pedal and was 3/4 through when he got nabbed true track really saved the day

I like the idea of the starter relay switch. I don’t think hiding a tracker in a day-to-day item is a good idea because a frustrated thief would be rifling through everything and find the wiring.

I have a combination of a hard wired Teltonika fleet tracker, isolator and Ardcase. The Teltonika plots to a map realtime and manages speed and fuel metrics too. A good deal at £50. On some vehicles it can override the ignition as well.

I have an old 110. I recently fitted a fuel solenoid isolator switch. It'll crank, but no fuel.

Thankyou for showing the criminal world what a Sky Tag Tracker looks like. So they now know what to search for in the vehicle. I’m sure when I got one, it was part of terms and conditions not to show the device on any media. 👏

The trouble with trackers, They are only good after the theft at best, most thieves will steal it, dump it, no one retrieves it, they strip it for parts. I have fitted lots of trackers to things, Most the time, the boss just wants to know where it is. My thoughts for this vehicle is to fit a good old battery isolator switch with key near the battery.

Tracker is a waste of time, the police wont bother, theres loads of videos documenting how they cannot be bothered, even when they are told where the stolen vehicle is.

I would not go as far as you to say the tracker is a waste of time. But I would agree if you had claimed that it's not an option that gives you 100% protection or even 100% chance of getting your vehicle back. That's the same as any security measure though. What you are trying to do is add enough counter measures to your vehicle that it becomes difficult for a thief to steal your Land Rover and get away with it. It doesn't mean it's impossible, but probably they will try another vehicle instead of yours if they can see that you have taken security seriously. And the tracker in that case is a last option for the worst case scenario that they still manage to take the vehicle. And it's not completely a dead cert counter measure but better to have it than not for most scenarios

You can also get an alert set up so as soon as the vehicle is moved from an area you have ring fenced, you get a text, email and can get it set for a phone call as well. Also, you can see where the vehicle is your self. Often when the vehicle is stolen the thieves will dump it some where and wait to see if it is being tracked. You can go and find it in this time and retrieve it if the police are too busy. Not infallible but another chance you’ve added to recover a stolen vehicle, or grab it as soon as it’s started up or moved.

Good of the UK Police to come to Australia to find my tracked vehicle! Lol 👍🏻🙈🙏🦘

The thing that nobody else talks about with trackers, is that they are _easily_ defeated. GPS signals are very weak, and can also be spoofed. Since the signals are weak, it's trivial to over power the legitimate GPS signals with fake ones. And this can be done with low cost equipment - some hundreds of pounds or so. The result is that your tracker thinks it's still where the vehicle was parked, meanwhile the vehicle is going down the road. And then they just need to get the vehicle inside a container to shield the tracker off, and they strip the vehicle to find it.
Now... that obviously takes a pretty sophisticated thief to pull it off. And I am not sure what is the proportion of sophisticated thieves vs unsophisticated when it comes to Land Rover theft. I would guess that the majority are unsophisticated, and in that case yes a tracker is useful. I'm not persuaded that the Police would be any help in that scenario, but at least you can establish a geofence around your home and be notified when the vehicle leaves the fence. Then you can at the very least track the vehicle yourself. My tracker also has the option to remotely kill the ignition power.
Great install options offered in this video.

no point relying on the police to track your vehicle, they are under manned and over stretched, they'll have more important things to do, is this device something that can be tracked via a phone app?

Just a couple of options. There's plenty more. Gives people some ideas outside the box.

    • @brianhoskins1979
      @brianhoskins1979 11 месяцев назад

It's not dumb. There are so many places to fit a tracker that it would take a thief a long time to check them all. Doesn't hurt to have a few more ideas in your pocket when thinking of places.
At the end of the day, trackers are not a dead-cert defence anyway. It's just about doing your best to protect your vehicle.
The main thing I would have added to this video is that it's good also to have plenty of "on display" security devices. Because a thief who clearly sees that you have taken security seriously is much more likely to try another vehicle. And if he does still try, well at least you have as many barriers in place as possible. All you can do, really.
I think my _best_ security device isn't even fitted to the LR. It's my CCTV at the house. Of course, thieves can wear masks. They can disable the camera. But I'll get a notification. And it will wake me up. And they won't _know_ I've been woken up. And then all hell is going to break loose 😂😂
Anyway, let's hope none of us ever have to deal with that!
